  • Better than words can ever describe

"We struggle to find the appropriate words to describe the incredibly wonderful, enjoyable, and relaxing time spent at Hensley Hollow Lodge. From the warm welcome by the owners (including chilled champagne on our arrival) to the amazing rooms (including very comfortable beds) to the wondrous beauty of the surrounding mountains and the many birds, reptiles, and animals who visited the front yard, our week at Hensley Hollow Lodge is one we will remember fondly for many years. There are so many things that differentiate Hensley Hollow Lodge from every other place that we have stayed. It’s the little things that make a difference and keep guests coming back! There is nothing that you could want at Hensley Hollow Lodge. They have supplied almost everything, except for personal toiletries. While other properties often provide a towel (or maybe two) per guest, you will find each bathroom equipped with 10-12 towels. The kitchen is fully equipped, and there is an additional “guest barter” cabinet in which guests can use (and leave behind) any excess cooking ingredients. Each of the rooms comes equipped with TVs and there are numerous DirectTVs and DVD/VHS players throughout the house. The movie library is overwhelming and are arranged alphabetically. There are three generations of PlayStations in the house and too many games to count! Everything in Hensley Hollow Lodge is meticulously organized and labeled. No guessing what’s in each cabinet – each door and drawer is clearly labeled. Every TV and DVD/VCR and the remotes that go with them are labeled Every light switch is clearly labeled as to what it controls. Hensley Hollow Lodge is tucked away enough for the privacy you desire when you want to get away, but close enough to the local amenities that you need. 10 minutes or less will put you on Skyline Drive or in town. We’ve stayed at several mountain homes, and each had their own flavor of natural beauty around them and encounters with wildlife. But none come close to Hensley Hollow Lodge. Seeing the deer, raccoons, and bears feeding 50 yards from the house (including daily visits from a mother bear and two cubs) throughout the day and night was exciting. Being so close to Shenandoah National Park, there is pristine beauty to be enjoyed from the decks, the benches or swings, or the hot tub. If there is a little bit of heaven to be found on earth, part of it can be found at Hensley Hollow Lodge!"

  • Awesome cabin on the river

"We stayed at the cabin for 5 nights. As advertised it was directly on the river. Beautiful grounds along with a fire pit and picnic table and grill right on the river. There is a canoe to use there also. Everything we needed was there for a great vacation. I recommend going to the Luray Caverns and spend some time in the town also. Hawksbill diner is a great place for breakfast. Skyline dr is a great way to spend a day also. Just be careful of the road leading into the cabin if you are in a car take it slow and you will be fine. If you are looking for a secluded getaway this is for you! Great stay!"

  • Perfect home away from home

"This cottage provides everything you need for an absolutely heavenly weekend. Alton could not be more helpful and responsive. Everything about Carrie's cottage is right - the kitchen is ideal for cooking in, the fire keeps you warm and the landscape is ideal. Love this place!"

  • Great mountain retreat!

"We had a wonderful time in this secluded mountain cabin. It was very clean and had everything we needed to relax and unwind from the city and technology. It was so nice to be cell phone service free...our family focused more on each other and the next scrabble challenge instead of technology. Hiking was really close by...we spent our days hiking and nights fishing in the creek (not much luck with the fish though). We really enjoyed our time and would recommend to anyone looking for a rustic, relaxing, mountain retreat."
