  • The Quintessential Wisconsin Lake House Experience

"I rented this home for a 5-day stay with friends from out of town, and had a perfectly lovely time relaxing there. The property's location gave us a sense of being away from it all, without actually being so far away from it all that the amenities of town were out of reach. The house itself has a lakefront orientation, with nonstop gorgeous views, including breathtaking sunsets each night of our stay. A large deck overlooks that lake, and a cleverly-converted boathouse is now a waterfront sitting area (and sometimes a perfect nap nest!). If I'd known then, what I know now I'd have arranged for the weeds in the lake to have been cut, to allow us a swimming option, but we certainly had a fine time kayaking instead. I recommend this rental to anyone looking for the quintessential lake house getaway experience."

  • Incredible!

"We just returned from a week-long visit to this magnificent compound with our six kids, ages 5-15. Oh my... what an absolute treat! The house is perfectly remodeled, the kitchen had everything we needed, the grounds are just incredible and FUN , and we had such a blast in the pool and on the lake. Thank you so much, Colleen, for a truly wonderful week of beautiful family time!!!"

  • A happy return

"Our three-generation family was delighted to return for our second summer visit to the lovely lake house, quickly settling back in and feeling at home. The house has a warm and inviting feel and is furnished for comfort and practicality: every need has been anticipated. The home felt spacious for the eight of us, who ranged in age from 3 to 71, with places for us all to gather as a group - we especially enjoyed the wrap-around porch - as well as quiet retreats. We enjoy cooking together so appreciated the very well-equipped kitchen and the outdoor grill. Upstairs there are three generous-sized bedrooms with king and queen beds and a third floor with beds for children as well as a game and lounge area. The three full bathrooms are a definite plus. As we knew from before, the Internet worked flawlessly, and the central air conditioning was very welcome during a heat wave. Of course, we soaked up the beautiful and tranquil setting, enjoying getting into the amazingly clear lake, playing with the kids on the float, taking out the paddle boat, or just sitting quietly and enjoying the play of light on the water. The house feels very private, well-screened from neighboring properties, and in general the lake is very quiet. In fact, mid-week, we often felt as though we had it all to ourselves. Once again it was a pleasure to work with Kay on the rental; the rental process is very clear and well organized, and if there's a question, her response is immediate. We look forward to being in touch about returning next summer."

  • Perfect escape for families or writers

"We spent a delightful week at this lovely lake house in early August. A phenomenal book collection and artwork from around Asia give this old Victorian a lot of character and charm. Yet, the place isn’t so fancy or fragile that you’re worried about having kids visit. The caretaker was responsive, super friendly and gave great recommendations. (Elegant Farmer, a short drive from here, has the best apple pie I’ve ever tasted!) My young kids caught panfish and bass off the pier every day. The water there is clear and shallow enough that you can see the fish eyeing the bait. We rented kayaks and explored the lake. On our next trip we hope to paddle all the way to Lake Lulu, a no-wake DNR lake that's supposed to be gorgeous. For those who prefer swimming in pools to lakes, there’s a wonderful newer YMCA nearby in Mukwonago that has a zero-depth-entry pool and a waterslide -- much nicer facilities than the Ys we have in the Chicago area. One of my favorite parts of the trip was seeing all the cranes. We hear their distinctive calls when they migrate overhead in the spring. Now we know where these magnificent birds spend their summers. On our last morning as we packed up, a crane stood on the pier, the brilliant red feathers on its head shining in the sun. A perfect end to a perfect trip! We’re already planning our next visit. p.s. This would make a great writer’s retreat in any season. There's strong wifi and three distinct spaces for writing. The library is surrounded on three sides with windows overlooking the woods. The screened porch overlooks the lake, and the dining room has long table with plenty of room to spread out your notes. You’re in a serene setting, surrounded by books, not far from coffee shops, and there's no TV to distract you."
