This apartment is the entire 3rd floor of a newly renovated townhouse located in the heart of the Upper East Side (East 80's). This historic, 1890’s brownstone is just five blocks straight East from the Metropolitan Art Museum and Central Park. It is very centrally located to transportation, museums, shops and cafes. It is a very charming block with mostly row-houses. If you ever saw the movie 'You've Got Mail' with Meg Ryan...this is about as close as it gets.
It recently underwent a mulit-million dollar renovation and now houses three apartments (two are short-term) and one is the owner’s duplex. The rental apartment is only used for short-term stays. The 2nd and 3rd floor of the property are identically furnished and have the same floor plan. Each floor has 4 bedrooms and 3 baths. That is 8 bedrooms, 6 bathrooms when combined!
The apartment has the feel of a luxurious hotel suite comparable to a four star hotel. The furnishings are attractive and comfortable. The bedding is 1st quality, including pillow top mattresses, down comforters, down pillows, and Egyptian cotton sheets. The apartment has one bedroom with a king bed, two bedrooms with a queen bed and one bedroom with a full bed. (please keep in mind that one of the bedrooms is accessed through the master bedroom.)
The living room has a 32 inch plasma screen tv as well as a large tv in the master bedroom. Both tv's have full cable with HBO. The apartment has a secured wireless internet for access with your personal computer. The apartment has central air conditioning.
There is a new and well stocked kitchen in addition to a washer and dryer inside the apartment. We are very family friendly and children are always welcome. We keep a portable crib and high chair in each apartment along with a basket of toys. We can NOT accommodate pets and NO smoking in the apartment. There is a fair amount of street parking for cars and a reasonable priced garage on the block. There are several gourmet food markets in the area and even a full sized grocery store just around the corner.

I needed a large apartment to house six adults for a long NYC weekend. This property was a perfect match for the group's needs. All rooms were clean, the beds were comfortable and the showers all had hot, strong water. The kitchen area had a fridge large enough to hold leftovers, a case of water, and more. And a full sized dishwasher and a washer dryer made our stay very comfortable. The place was walking distance to many small neighborhood restaurants, bars (great time Saturday night at Johnny Foxes!), drug stores, etc. A few notes to prepare users who may not be NYC-apartment knowledgeable: the floors creak (making it hard to 'sneak' into the bathroom during the middle of the night!), and, if you are staying on the second or third floor, there are no elevators to help with moving luggage from floor to floor. These small items aside, I would highly recommend the property!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, girls getaway, families with young children, tourists without a car.

Celebrating the 40th birthday of a dear friend whose longtime wish has been to visit NYC and see the Rockettes! We had an amazing time and enoyed the brownstone immensely! It was great to be within walking distance of a great pizza place, neighborhood grocery store, a CVS, and probably the best bagels in the neighborhood. While we had a great time touring the city, it was great to have a nice home-away-from-home every evening. We laughed, danced and simply had a wonderful time. Hopefully, we didn't disturb the second floor neighbors! :-) The only "sore" spot was getting our luggage up 2 long flights of stairs!!! We weren't prepared for that. But once we caught our breath and regained our strength (and thanked God that we only had to do that one time), it was smooth going. Enough room for all 7 of us. Comfortable and spacious--although the bathroom in the second bedroom was a tad cramped and tiny--we made do!!! Thank you for being a part of the trip of a lifetime for our friend!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, girls getaway, romantic getaway, families with young children, sightseeing, tourists without a car.

We stayed here in July 2012 for 5 nights. The apartment was clean and spacious. Nice decor. Kitchen / dining / living area provided a nice space for family to gather in evenings. Photos accurate. A/C worked well. Quickly cooled the apartment down after a long hot day of exploring the city. Very quiet, but close to shopping, restaurants, museums, park, public transportation. Plenty of options for groceries and restaurants within 1 to 2 blocks. Free wireless internet was nice. Could not easily find street parking, but plenty of paid options nearby. Apartment manager was efficient, helpful and easy to work with as we planned our stay. Would highly recommend.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, girls getaway, families with young children, sightseeing, tourists without a car.

We spent Memorial Day weekend in NYC with our 3 young adult children and 2 of their friends celebrating our son's graduation from West Point. The location was awesome - we could get anywhere we needed with no trouble at all. We loved having space for everyone to spread out when we were at the brownstone. Everything was clean. The kitchen was well stocked even though we did not use it very often - there were too many fun places to eat nearby! The neighborhood was quiet and safe. I would definitely come back!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, girls getaway, families with young children, sightseeing, tourists without a car.

We had a group of 4 couples stay over a 5-day period - we were in the 3rd apartment on the top of the building. Everyone had a great time. Location of apartment was perfect - relatively quick walk to Museums/Central Park, and the subway. There was also a small grocery store just around the corner. By the time we left, we had our morning bagel/coffee place, and our neighborhood bar we'd hit either before heading out or on our way in for the evening. We got in early AM, and Owners allowed us to drop off the bags prior to the apartment being ready for us. There was a slight snaffu with a key being broken in the outside door, but the Owners were quick to jump on the issue, and provide a work around until it was fixed. The group of friends on this trip were close long time friends, and we all live or have lived in San Francisco. I only point this out because as with typical city apartments, you're in close quarters with odd shaped set-ups, and this usually works best with good friends or family. We're considering it as a good possibility for next time we come if we bring the kids. Overall - Definitely recommend.Recommended for: Girls getaway, families with young children, sightseeing, tourists without a car.

We arrived on a Sunday too early to check in but with LOTS of luggage and invited by the apt manager to drop off our bags; a great help as we then headed to broadway to watch Mary Poppins allowing us to make the best of an otherwise rainy and pressured day of travel from Orlando. The apt was not as plush as I expected but it certainly proved comfortable for us all and a good amount of space to house 5 of us (3 being children). The two beds in the main bedroom (main bed and bed in interleading room) were very comfy and greatly appreciated every night after a long day packed with sightseeing, walking, catching taxis up and down, managing 3 kids In a bustling city! I did not try out the other two but both my older children slept through each night and seemed very happy with their 'own' beds! I agree with arrangement of the apartment should there be couples, grown ups sharing etc that prefer more privacy or their own en-suite bathrooms but for us the apartment was just right. The room with the cute mini shower and loo( and the basin outside as mentioned in a previous review) was a hit with my son, only too happy to not have to share a b/rm with his sister. She used the b/rm close to her rm and my hubbie and I and baby used the main one. Yes, the apt space is quite small compared with Florida resort stds, but not a surprise for NY. Perfect for quick b/fast, head out fr day, and evening return to shower and hit bed from sheer exhaustion. The kitchen is tiny and there as you walk in, but served us well and honestly you have to eat out -great restaurants all over! We did not arrive back late on any night (being a young family) so never felt unsafe in light hours. hubbie went out twice latish to buy some food saying he didn't feel 100%safe. 1or 2 people that loitered across the rd not threatening as such but something you prefer not to hav to consider. Again, it is NY a big city, we're security alert south Africans, and the loiterers proved to be passers by (albeit it slow 'passersby'). We were also the only people in the brownstone with ground and 1st flr empty. Just to conclude on safety-my notes are really considerations/observations not scary, lingering thoughts at all. Overall we had a fun, comfy stay and would stay there again. Nb:washer/dryer in rm with cute shwr so can be noisy. My son was so tired he was unaffected. Also, cable did not work-tricky with 3 Kids-although so busy exploring it wasnt a big prob. Gr8 location to sense living in NY!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, girls getaway, families with young children, sightseeing, tourists without a car.

Just wanted to thank you for such a wonderful week-end ! My girlfriends and I truly enjoyed the apt. It made our week-end extra special. We took advantage of the grocery store half a block away and the wonderful warm apartment to cook together. The kitchen is well stocked with the essentials and the great living / dinning area was perfect to accomodate the six of us comfortably. The apt. was also perfectly located near Central Park, so we took advantage of the short distance to run there everydaDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Six of us just got back last week after spending five days here. The apartment was well-maintained and very clean. Beds were quite comfortable, and the living area was roomy enough for all of us. We got to meet Lulu (the housekeeper), and I had to call the manager, Mabel, when one of the bathroom lights burned out; it was promptly replaced. All my questions were quickly replied to via email before we arrived. Would definitely book this apartment again. We always try to eat our way across the citDid you find this review helpful? We just returned from New York spending two nights and 3 days in the Upper East Side: two adults, 4 teenagers. The logistics of staying in this apartment could not have been better. Parking garage right across the street with reasonable prices. We had a minor issue with the shower the first morning and the owner answered our call and helped us out right away and was very pleasant. It was very much appreciated to be able to leave our bags in the apartment when we arrived early and to be allowed to leave them safely locked in the hall for the rest of the day after we checked out. Though overall we were happy with having 4 rooms and 3 baths, one of the baths has a shower stall that is very tiny and the sink is located outside the bathroom and in the bedroom. This was not a problem, really, just a surprise. And though the bathrooms all function well, they are old and there are no towel racks or hooks or any place to set your clothes. The king bed in the master bedroom was very comfortable, but the other beds were not as high quality and one was squeaky. I was surprised that guests were required to strip their own sheets, wipe down the counters, and put out the trash and recycling. This may be common practice in NY, but I have not had to do that at other VRBO rentals. Again, not a big deal, but a surprise. Finally, the house exterior was very attractive (as were many of the adjacent ones), however, the immediate neighborhood on 1st and 2nd avenues was a little grittier than I expected based on the written description. It was not far to cleaner streets and nicer restaurants, but I was expecting to be right in the middle of that type of neighborhood based on the description. All in all, the apartment worked out well. There were just a few surprises.Recommended for: Families with teenagers.
Owner response: Thank you so much for your feedback. We appreciate your constructive comments and use it as a way to improve our units. You will be happy to know that we had our contractor re-fresh the bathrooms and added racks. A new mattress has been ordered. As far as stripping the beds..Unfortunately the turn around time for the rental is only 4 hours. When a unit sleeps 8 - you can imagine there is lots of laundry to clean. We almostt always have same day check-in's too. We found through trial and error that guests prefer an extra hour at check-out in exchange for asking them to strip the beds. However, let us know and we can work with your preferences. I'm not sure how to respond about the location. In addition to these review, We have 15 reviews on our unit 2 -(115235) where everyone gives 5 starts for the area. thanks again for taking the time to post a revies.

My daughters, sisters, niece and I rented the top floor apartment for a girls getaway to celebrate my 50th birthday. The apartment was perfect for us - it was well-located, clean, safe and gave us the opportunity/space to comfortably "hang out" together that 2 hotel rooms just wouldn't have provided. It has great access to restaurants, Central Park and the subway - but we walked miles and loved it. We had a fantastic time in NYC and would highly recommend this apartment as your home-away-from home base!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing, tourists without a car.

About the owner: We are a young couple with four kids. Originally both from Utah, We have lived in the city for 15 years. I graduated from Columbia University and used to work for in management consulting. Now I run the rental units and enjoy staying home with my children. My husband works in business development for a software company here in the city.
Why the Owner Chose Upper East Side:
Prior to buying our building, we lived in four neighborhoods with in NYC. There is a reason why most long term residents of NYC eventually migrate to the Upper East Side. It is similar to Hyde Park in London. The Upper East Side is consistently manicured with clean sidewalks, flower boxes and splendid street cafes and boutique shops. In fact, it is such a nice neighborhood we send our oldest son to the public elementary school.
The real draw for the Upper East Side is Central Park. We are located a five minute walk to some on the prettiest areas of the park.
The Unique Benefits at this Condo:
This will be a completely different experience than staying at a midtown hotel. While only a five minute cab or subway from Grand Central Station, this location is far less bohemian and noisy. You will hear birds out the window, see squirrels in the trees and have people greet you as you walk down the street. The city gets overwhelming if you are running around seeing tourist sites. Our guests all comment how nice it is to come back to a peaceful setting. I guarantee after three days you will consider yourself a New Yorker.
