Central Sonoma County, Wine Country - Sonoma State University

Year Purchased: 2005

Why the Owner Chose Cotati

There are 3 main reasons we choose to buy our townhouse in Cotati. First it's easy to get to from San Francisco, just 45 miles North, off of Hwy 101. Secondly, is the central Sonoma Wine Country location. While not in a wine appellation proper we border the Russian River appellation and are 20-30 minutes from the 6 main wine regions in Sonoma County (great for doing day trips to different areas). Finally, it's central to so many services and other towns; Santa Rosa, Rohnert Park, Petaluma, Sebastopol and Sonoma State University are all our neighbors. Not only are guests staying at Villa Sonoma to enjoy wine country but also for family weddings/reunions and extended business trips.

The Unique Benefits at this Townhome

The most frequent comment we receive from guests is how welcome, comfortable & calm they feel at Villa Sonoma. That's exactly how the place you escape to should feel! We've given it a tranquil ambiance so that it's a wonderful place to relax. You'll get a good nights sleep on a pillow-top mattress that is triple sheeted with a down blanket and high count sheets and then spend your day exploring sites and towns of Sonoma County. Also, the village of Cotati has all the services and conveniences you need: Oliver's Grocery, Starbucks, Walgreens, wine shop, post office, cafes and restaurants.

Sonoma & Heaven, they seem like the same word to us! We have become Sonoma County Aficionados who love all Sonoma County has to offer. From the wineries and amazing restaurants in the wine country towns, to the rugged coastal vistas, beaches and redwood forest. It is truly an amazing California Coastal County!

Our weekend home is in the heart of Sonoma County and we drive up frequently from the city. We love to get out and about in both Sonoma and Napa Counties to see the sites and visit the numerous wineries, our favorites along with new ones. Also during the Summer and Harvest Seasons there are many winery events, food & wine festivals, concerts, barrel tastings and Farmers Markets.

Live well, laugh often & love always!

Our favorite VRBO rental

Guest: Linda (Wallingford PA)
Date of Stay: 09/21/11 Review Submitted: 10/06/11

This townhouse was wonderful! Thanks to John and Larry, it was like a home away from home. The photos do not even do it justice. The home was immaculate! The kitchen was stocked with everything you could possibly need or want. I cannot even begin to list all the thoughtful touches, John and Larry have added to provide their guests with the most pleasurable visit. Out of all the homes we have rented on VRBO in this country and Europe, this was without a doubt our favorite! The location was central to everything we planned to visit. Be sure to check out their recommendations for wineries, and other places to visit on their site; it is great! Thank you John and Larry, your beautiful home was a added bonus to our fabulous vacation! Linda and Tony

Owner response:Linda & Tony you are very welcome! We're glad you had a wonderful time and were able to experience the wineries and all the sites of Sonoma County. We appreciate your kind comments and hope we will have the opportunity for you to visit again. Warmest regards, John & Larry

Hotel experience with all the comforts of home

Guest: Diann and Don (Chadds Ford, PA)
Date of Stay: 09/21/11 Review Submitted: 10/04/11

Have always been a Ritz Carlton kind of girl...will always be. Staying at Villa Sonoma was like staying at a 5 star hotel but with all the comforts of home. We found nothing but the best...from the beds (loved the triple sheeting), to the linens, to the custom closet, to the beautiful master bath, to the well stocked kitchen, to the welcome bottle of wine, to the picnic basket with everything you could possibly need (and I mean everything!). As I mentioned, I love luxury but cleanness is first and foremost and VillaSonoma passed the white glove test. Thank you John and Larry for paying so much attention to detail and sharing your beautiful town home with us. Thanks also for providing such a great information packet...loved your winery suggestions...my favorite was Chateau St. Jean. As they say at the Ritz,"my pleasure".......well it was our pleasure to stay at VillaSonoma.

Owner response:Wow Diann, thank you for the glowing review! We enjoy Villa Sonoma and providing a luxury type experience for our guests (and ourselves when we are there). It's kind of fun to spoil others too. We are so glad all of you had a great time and that you were able to take advantage of so many great wineries in Sonoma County. It is a great place to come for a visit and to indulge yourselves! Certainly the pleasure was ours! Let us know when your travel plans bring you back this way.

Awesome townhouse!

Guest: Janet (Arlington VA )
Date of Stay: 07/30/11 Review Submitted: 08/11/11

Wow; this place really knocked our socks off. Great location for enjoying beautiful Sonoma County. The home is as clean as a whistle, extremely comfortable and well decorated with many "extras" such as special soaps, "buy by the drink refreshments", fully stocked paper goods, great grill, wonderful porches, DVD collection, and board games. We have recommended this home to all our friends and we can't wait to return!

Owner response:Thank you Janet, we're glad all of you had a great time at Villa Sonoma! I'm sure your family enjoyed having you close by for the week. Let us know when you are visiting again!

So much to do...so little time...

Guest: Lori (Gloucester, Virginia)
Date of Stay: 07/19/11 Review Submitted: 08/01/11

We very much enjoyed our stay at Villa Sonoma. We were extremely pleased with the cleanliness of the unit and all the extra touches you provided. Your photos don't do it justice. It was truly a warm and inviting haven that made the perfect home base for all our excursions. Cotati is a charming town and was the ideal location from which to explore the beautiful landscape, amazing wines, and gustatory delights of southern Sonoma County. With so many fabulous wineries, we would be hard-pressed to name a favorite, but our discovery of Bartholomew Park Winery was a delightful surprise. We enjoyed amazingly delicious meals at several restaurants, including Underwood in Graton, Graffiti in Petaluma, the French Garden in Sebastapol, and the Sunflower Cafe in Sonoma. Finishing our week with the Segway tour of Sonoma was a real hit! Our only regret is that our four-day stay was too short—and we were too busy—to truly take advantage of all the wonderful amenities your lovely townhouse offered. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Villa Sonoma to friends, and we’ll surely be in touch should we find ourselves traveling to God’s country again. Thank you for all you did to make our vacation such a pleasant one.

Owner response:Thank you Lori, sounds like you are in love with Sonoma County like we are! I'm glad you were able to take advantage of the location of the townhouse and get to see all the different wine appellations. Come back soon!

Date of Stay: 06/07/11 Review Submitted: 06/25/11

We loved every moment in this great townhouse!! It is beautifully furnished and lacked for nothing. The kitchen was very well equipped with top of the line dishes, and pots and pans. The beds were so comfortable that you hated to get up in the morning. The location was perfect. We went a different direction each day and getting on to 101 was so easy. If you are looking for a wonderful place to rent while you tour the wine country this is it!!! John was great to deal with and provided excellent information about the area. Nancy and Vern

Owner response:Thank you Nancy & Vern, sounds like you were able to get out and explore the different wine tasting regions of Sonoma County. We enjoy that also, a different direction everyday. What a great trip! Enjoy the rest of your summer and let us know when your plans bring you back this way.

So Warm & Inviting

Guest: Joan (Montgomery, TX)
Date of Stay: 05/16/11 Review Submitted: 05/25/11

From the minute we opened the front door we felt welcomed. The townhouse was even nicer than the pictures and so well equipped, we didn't want for anything. It is impeccably furnished and quiet, too, despite being in a small complex. It was conveniently located to the many wineries that we had the pleasure of exploring both in the Sonoma and Napa Valleys. John provided us with a professional packet of information that proved so helpful with winery and restaurant recommendations. Thank you, John and Larry, for opening your townhouse for all to enjoy. The bottle of wine along with the almonds were a special treat. We will definitely recommend this to our friends and will return again if we are ever in the area..

Owner response:Thank you Joan, we're glad you enjoyed the warmth and relaxation of Villa Sonoma, along with the wonderful wineries of Sonoma & Napa counties. Let us know when you are ready to return!

Beyond Our Expectations

Guest: Kent & May (Ossining NY)
Date of Stay: 04/19/11 Review Submitted: 05/18/11

From the time we stepped into the house to when we left, we were awed by the beauty of the house and the details in decor. The amenities provided were beyond our expectations, from a welcoming bottle of wine to beverages in the fridge and wine fridge (on an honor pay use plan), to the many spa products in the baths. We were well pampered. The kitchen was stocked with the best equipment to cook with and we were so pleased John and Larry thought of everything a guest would need to use (especially gadgets in the kitchen). The house was well stocked with basics and extras. We were provided with wine country info and maps and were happy with the convenience of the location of the house to the vineyards. The wine country theme and cozy decor made us feel so comfortable as we lounged on the sofas and slept well in the nice firm beds. We truly enjoyed our stay and highly recommend this townhome when visiting the wine country. We certainly plan to return in the future.

Owner response:Thank you Kent for visiting Villa Sonoma Townhouse! We're glad you enjoyed your visit and all the little extras. We enjoying pampering our guests. Let us know if you return to visit the wine country.

Best Place to stay in Sonoma Valley

Guest: Maria and Friends (Minneapolis)
Date of Stay: 05/12/11 Review Submitted: 05/16/11

John and Larry, We had a blast. We cooked 2 gourmet dinners. Cooking in your kitchen was a pleasure. My husband promised to buy me the 12 piece Anolon cookware set ;-) The beds were very comfy as well. It was my first time sleeping well in a new place. Also we hit the jackpot with the weather. Our friends were in heaven as well. You have thought of every little thing, and believe me it was noticed and appreciated. I am telling all our friends to check you out when planning a drip to wine country. Did I mentioned that the bottle of Chateau St. Jean was exactly what we needed after the long flight from Minneapolis. Once again thank you for opening your home for us. We loved any moment of it. Maria and Friends

Owner response:We're glad you and your friends had a great time Maria. You did get some perfect weather too. We love cooking and are glad you were able to do some serious cooking while you visited. Let us know when you are planning your next get-away to Sonoma County.

Most Well-Stocked, Clean, and Welcoming Townhome!

Guest: Tamara and Jon (Anchorage, Alaska)
Date of Stay: 12/22/09 Review Submitted: 01/04/11

We have rented a handful of homes over the past few years, and this rental experience pleased us the most. The listing photos accurately reflect the rental's appearance and amenities. The hospitality was second to none. We were welcomed with a bottle of wine and Christmas stockings filled with chocolates on the kitchen counter. Although it wasn't as large as some others we have stayed in, it was by far, the cleanest, most-welcoming, well-decorated and well-stocked home with everything you could imagine needing (i-pod docking station, dvds, dinnerware, glassware, honor wine bar, numerous pots/pans and utencils for cooking, even baby spoons!). The owners have not forgotten a thing and they are very hospitable throughout the entire rental process. I wish more owners could be like these two. The open kitchen, living and dining layout is functional for small or large groups. The bathrooms were clean and stocked with plush towels, and everything else you would find in a high-end hotel. The beds were also extremely plush with the master bedroom king size bed especially comfortable. We grilled outside even though it was Dec. and hope to come back to stay again in warmer weather and utilize the lovely outdoor patio!

Owner response:We're glad you enjoyed the Holidays at Villa Sonoma! Hope you are able to return and enjoy summer in Wine Country.
