Owner's Profile
Owner Description
Year Purchased: 1995
I've lived on or around Lake Erie all my life. I believe it's one of the most beautiful places in the world.
Why the Owner Chose Oak Harbor
I've owned this property for many years, but knocked it down and started from scratch in 1994. This is what has created the beautiful beach home designed for family vacations.
The Unique Benefits of this House
Because the home faces north, you get to enjoy the sunrise and the sunset each day. The view of the Lake is different every day. The wildlife and relaxation that you feel when you are looking out over the water is second to none.

LOVE our lakehouse vacation

We had our seventh consecutive year at "Pete and Ann's" lakehouse, this past July. We started with a long weekend (we found the property on-line) and now rent for ten days. Grandkids are begging for two weeks next year! We love the property! My husband and I invite our four children, their spouses and our TEN grandchildren to join us for a family vacation. Grandkids range from 20 to 7 years of age. My husband and I are senior citizens. Our kids, and their spouses, are working professionals and they enjoy the relaxing time at the lakehouse the most! We build memories for a lifetime, every year! As we drive to Oak Harbor, the grandkids watch for the "cloud-maker," a sign that we are getting close to the lakehouse! Everyone enjoys the fishing, beach activities, water play (we purchased a jet ski for the older ones). The Harrisons have an extra lot, across the street, to use for baseball games, corn toss, etc. I will admit that, as with all properties on the lake, there are some lake-related bugs. They have not been a problem. The TVs and other appliances were fine. The grandkids play with their X-Box, watch a DVD, etc. on a rainy day. We use all of the beds available and bring our own blow-up mattresses for the floor space. The house has been exceptionally clean every time we stayed. We treat the house as a "home" we are renting. We use the china and glassware, but bring paper plates and cups as disposables. This is a wonderful, restful, place to stay. Cedar Point is our excitement. Family vacations are highly recommended and this is the perfect place for one. Something for all ages! It is where our family makes memories to last a lifetime! Ask my grandkids!

ON ARRIVAL THE HOUSE WAS FULL OF FLIES AND WE WERE MET BY OWNERS WHO RESIDE AT PROPERTY WHEN ITS NOT RENTED OUT. IT TOOK THREE DAYS TO RID OF FLIES/BUGS IN HOUSE. THE SCREENS TO SLIDING DOORS WERE ALSO FULL OF DEAD BUGS. FOR THE MOST PART THE HOUSE WAS NICE AND WELL STOCKED BUT IS NOT A HOUSE FOR SMALL KIDS. IT IS RIGHT ON THE BEACH SO THE ATMOSPHERE ON THE BACK PORCH WAS VERY NICE AND RELAXING, BUT THE FURNITURE ON THE UPPER DECK WAS UNUSABLE DUE TO BEING COVERED WITH MOLD. THE DOWNSTAIRS BEDROOM HAS A BROKEN CHAIR AND TV WAS NOT WORKING PROPERLY. THE LIVING ROOM WAS VERY NICE BUT THE TV WAS AN OLD CONSOLE TV AND THE DVD WAS NOT HOOKED UP FOR THE KIDS TO WATCH MOVIES. THE KITCHEN WAS WELL STOCKED BUT WITH CHINA/GLASSWARE NOT APPROPRIATE FOR SMALL KIDS. BRING SOME PLASTIC/PAPER PLATES. THE UPSTAIRS BEDROOMS WERE VERY NICE WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE DEN/BEDROOM. THE PULL OUT/SLEEPER COUCH WAS UNUSABLE DUE TO LACK OF SPRINGS TO SUPPORT THE MATTRESS WHICH WOULD HAVE BEEN UNUSABLE DUE TO AGE/QUALITY. THE FISH TANK IN THE ROOM WAS GREEN WITH ALGAE. THE DEN DID HAVE A NICE VIEW AND BIG SCREEN TV WHICH WAS PERFECT FOR A TEENAGER WHO DOESNT MIND SLEEPING ON THE FLOOR/BLOW UP MATTRESS. THE ONE ROOM WITH BUNK BEDS HAS A TRUNDLE THAT IS NOT USABLE BECAUSE IT IS JUST A BOX SPRING. WE WERE A LITTLE SURPRISED DRIVING IN SINCE THERE IS A POWER PLANT WITHIN A MILE OF THE HOME BUT IT IS NOT VISIBLE FROM THE HOUSE. OVERALL WE ENJOYED OUR VACATION BUT WE WOULD NOT RETURN TO THIS PARTICULAR HOUSE.
Owner response:I will start my response by stating that this was our first negative review EVER in the past 9 years. Coincidentally enough, it was also the FIRST time that we have had to retain part of the security deposit because of damage to the property. The review was posted right after their partial security deposit was returned… so go figure. The family that stayed there prior to this family arriving must have left the doors open because there were alot of flies in the home which our cleaning crew spent 4 hours trying to get rid of while making sure everything was thoroughly cleaned and disinfected. This is not typical. When you have a beach home on the lake you can sweep off the bugs outside during the day and they are back the next morning. This is true no matter where you are on the lake. The downstairs bedroom lazy boy chair had a missing screw on the foot recliner section of the chair which has been remedied. The furniture on the upper deck is fine with the exception of 2 cushions which were missed by the cleaning crew. That has been remedied. We have 5 TV’s; all of which work fine. DVD on downstairs TV is connected. 95% of the families that rent the beach home have small children. You walk right from the deck on the lake down steps right to the beach. The water is steps away from the deck and makes it ideal for small children. The lake has a gradual decline and allows small children to play in a more shallow area. People also like that it is a private association with only one way in and out so the kids can ride their bikes without fear of fast traffic.Several families that come back year after year say that their children and grandchildren talk about their experience all year long and keep asking when they are coming back.We have 2 sets of dishes/silverware, casual and more formal. So you will have to bring your own paper plates and plastic silverware. The damage in the den to the couch was the reason that some of the security deposit was withheld. The family totally broke the arm off one end of the couch and the springs on the pull out bed were damaged because it appeared to have been used as a trampoline. This couch has been repaired. Our aquarium cleaner never showed up.For anyone that is not familiar with Lake Erie, there are several power plants on the lake;one of which is visible from all the well known Lake Erie Islands, including Put-In-Bay.Never been a problem for the hundreds of thousands of people who visit this area yearly. All we get are rave reviews.
