I would NOT recommend staying here if you travel with any possessions and if you appreciate a clean environment. My boyfriend and I stayed for 3 nights on a recent trip to Costa Rica. We were pleasantly surprised by the bare bones "beachy" property and environment. It is a private area where you are sure to meet other interesting and wonderful travelers. While the company was great, the amenities were lacking. It looked as though our bungalow hadn't been cleaned in ages, with cobwebs in all corners and ants filling the bathroom. We were given 2 towels total, and expected to use these for both the beach and showering (may I remind you it is a beach town). The worst part of this stay is that there is essentially zero security and we were robbed on our first night. There is no lock on the gate to the property, no security guard, and apparently the locks on each bungalow are easy to pick (or there is someone walking around with another key). Our room was broken in, while we were out to dinner and approximately $1,300 of property was stolen. It put a damper on the entire trip and I would not wish this upon anyone else.

Owner response: Thanks for your comment, it is not the best one we had but it is not the best stay they got either. We'll learn from that experience and improve our service. This event is very unfortunate but we tried our best to make the rest of their stay as enjoyable as possible. That obviously was not enough and I know how frustrating it can be to be robbed. It is the first robbery we ever had since we opened and we are doing whatever it takes to improve security. It is a challenge in Tamarindo during peak season and we thought we were doing good so far. I believe the frustration from such an unfortunate event leads to exaggeration in comments on cleanliness. Yes there might be ants because this is Costa Rica and a beach bungalow made out of teak where we don't spray pesticide inside the room. We clean each bungalow the day of the arrival of each client. We might have not done a perfect job on that one and feel sorry about it. I always believe that communication helps and I wish these people had told us after check-in that their bungalow was not clean. We don't take that personally and would have cleaned it again right away. As far as beach towels, that is true we don't provide them but for those who don't bring a beach towel to Costa Rica we will be glad to provide one during their stay with us, as long as they ask for it. Instead of asking for towels the clients took the bed blankets to the beach and returned them full of salt and sand. Who is to blame here? We will keep on doing our best to offer travelers a quality, safe and affordable experience with us. We succeed with a large majority of them and feel bad when we get a nasty comment, not only for the reputation of our business because we can always improve it but for the traveler's experience that can't be changed. We love Costa Rica and Tamarindo, we love our little bungalows because we put a lot of time and positive energy into them so we want our guests to get a feel of that and we'll keep on trying our best. Pura Vida

My fiance and I stayed for almost a week and we had a wonderful time. When we first arrived, we were the only patrons so we had the whole place to ourselves. When other guests arrived, we shared drinks on each others patios. The pool is emerald colored, small but wonderful. We spent a large amount of our time in Tamarindo in the pool reading books and cooling off. The venue is a nice distance from the night club filled main street, but it's an easy walk into town. There is a well stocked market a quarter mile away. I think the B&B would also be excellent for two families with kids who could rent out all four bungalows.

Was surprised to see review posted 4/2 as we visited the lovely Beach Bungalows on 4/10 and had a fantastic stay. I feel the pictures were completely accurate, not outdated as mentioned in previous review. The property was very clean and well maintained. We had no plumbing problems, but that may have been fixed prior to our arrival. The pool was surrounded by white rocks, not gravel. The lanai was fabulous and perfect for lounging. Excellent WIFI service. Kitchen available at all times, which came in handy because we are early rises and we able to make coffee at 6 am. A very sweet woman came at 8 am and prepared fresh fruit, juice, and toast/jam for breakfast. She did our laundry for us as well! We would definitely stay again! Thank you Beach Bungalows!!

We did not have a good experience here, either with the property itself or the management. We stayed here for 1 night (with a 3 night reservation). There are no windows in the sleeping area (there are two small windows in the bathroom but they don’t provide any ventilation to the sleeping area). There is a large sliding glass door, but you can’t sleep with that open. The photos are outdated; there is very little green (the pool is surrounded by gravel); and ignore the reviews that talk about fresh croissants and pastries for breakfast, they don’t do that anymore. It’s in a noisy neighborhood; we had neighbors (not other guests) outside talking until 3am. And around 6 am our room filled up with sewer gas bubbling out of the shower drain; the plumbing isn’t vented correctly, and there isn’t 24 hour management on-site so we were on our own. This wasn’t a terrible place, it was just a lot of little things, and the co-owner that manages it in Tamarindo did seem genuinely concerned when we checked out early, though she said I’d have talk to the owner in Hawaii about any refund. When I emailed the owner in Hawaii to ask for a partial refund I got no response. After a week I posted a negative review – then heard from the owner, though he had not yet seen my review. He agreed that the photos were outdated and said he’d refund the days I didn’t stay, which I thought was very generous, but then he saw my review and sent me a nasty email the next day to tell me that since I wrote a critical review I wasn’t going to get a refund. There are other sites with reviews of this property, look around before booking – I’m not the only one that felt misled.

As a single female, I found these adorable bungalows to be a perfect safe haven for solo travelers. Exceptionally clean, friendly staff and breakfast daily (french croissants, fresh fruit, coffee). The raised rooms allow for lounging downstairs on a hammock with the exclusive pool a foot away. I thought the beach would be a tad closer but it is within a 10 minute walk and it turned out to be great to get a little exercise. So many folks I met were jealous I found this place as the all inclusive resorts were not as promised and close to construction. I never return to the same place, always wanting to try something new, but will choose this over and over if I return to Costa Rica. Heidi, the manager, was adaptable and friendly!

My husband and I just visited Tamarindo and stayed in the Beach Bungalows B&B for 5 nights. We really enjoyed our stay! The rooms are very simple, and very beautiful! We absolutely fell in love with the housekeeper, Julie. She was so wonderful to talk to. She served us breakfast every morning which consisted of several awesome freshly made croissants, a plate of fruit , a glass of fruit juice and a cup of coffee! We loved sitting by the pool and eating! Julie also did our laundry one day, which was so nice to not have to pack as much! We also ate at Le Beach Club, which the owners of the B&B also own. The food and atmosphere was wonderful! From the main street in Tamarindo, it's a 10 minute walk to the Bungalows. The road is very rocky, but it is a great workout! Witch's Rock Surf Camp (where you can rent boards or go on a boat ride to Witch's rock is about a 15-20 minute walk through the town.) Our time in Costa Rica was so awesome, and we absoultely loved the Ticos! We loved our 5 nights at the B&B and hopefully soon we will visit again. I would definately recommend this place to a friend. Also, Greyline bus will pick you up right outside the B&B.

My mom and I stayed for 2 nights and we couldn't have asked for a better room at such a great price. The bungalows were beautifully built and maintained and the patio below each was a relaxing place to rest during the sleepy afternoons. The main house had a kitchen (with available space in the refrigerator) and TV room. The owners also owned a local bar/restaurant that I highly recommend if you're looking for some night time fun right on the beach. Thanks Heidi and Manu!

                      Year Purchased: 2009

About the owner: We are originally from France and moved to Maui Hawaii 15 years ago. As professional windsurfers we travel the world year round together with our 4 year old daughter. Every year we go back to Tamarindo because this place has a little of everything we love around the world; the tropics, the scenery, the warm weather & people, the waves, the night life, the wilderness and so much more... Why the Owner Chose Tamarindo:
Because we knew we will always be happy to go back there and also because it is always easier to send people to a place you love. Everybody can have a great time in Tamarindo and its surroundings. There is so much to do and to see and so many great people around. We have plenty friends in the area so it is always a pleasure to come back.

The Unique Benefits at this Bed And Breakfast:
Beach Bungalows B&B is a unique place in Tamarindo because there is no other place where you get so much for such a little price. First of all we are proud to have an environmentally friendly project with a micro waste water treatment that allow us to use our waste water for irrigation. When the sun is high we love relaxing in the bungalow's lounge area by the pool. What is great is that everything is walking distance from our place; great swimming or surfing, from shops & grocery stores to restaurants and bars it is so convenient!
