Location: South Capitol, Santa Fe, New Mexico, USA (50 miles to Albu Shuttle drop close. Capitol 3 blocks. Pl)
Accommodations: Studio, + Convertible Bed(s), 1 Bath (Sleeps 2-3)
There is a gem of a casita, in downtown Santa Fe. Sparkling clean, very quiet, even being so close to everything, as it is. A large studio, configured so comfortably and conviently, with tons of storage and large bath, you will fall in love and not want to leave. In a village blessed with the bluest sky you can imagine. And more stars at night than you can count! (viewed from the shared hot tub) Old meets new in this historic adobe property, with all the modern amenities, like flat screen TV,Wi-Fi,DVD,CD...and parking right at your door. Plus a very easy walk to the Plaza.
You will awake, refreshed after sleeping so well at this 7000' altitude, to the birds singing and the air so fresh it will call you out early. The shared garden/patio is a great place for that first cup of coffee and the sun rise. (Or the last glass of wine in the evening!) Now for breakfast..., stay in and cook your favorites, in your nicely appointed kitchen. Including quality coffee maker with a gold filter, your first mornings 'coffee fixings' waiting for you, in case you got in late or forgot. Stainless appilances. As well as everything you need to cook, anything you want. Or maybe you want to walk to one of the many restaurant choices in the neighborhood... Sage Bake House a block away, Zia Diner, Flying Star. After breakfast you will want to return to your casita to prepare for your day...a great hike or perhaps shopping..decisions, decisions!
Your casita feels very cozy, and private...somehow magical. The acequia, out back (large ancient ditch, hand dug by the indians of long ago) lends to this feeling of magic, as it runs past your own private patio. It all feels a bit foreign. Unlike anywhere else in the US Maybe that's why we're always in the Top 10 must visit places.
Difficult as it may seem, to pull yourself away from this peaceful enclave, you turn on the shower and find a delightful hot rainfall. Blowdryer is right there too. Good mirror and lights, nice. Note to self...try the jetted bathtub tomorrow morning!
You decide to stay in town. Good decision. As you walk out, head towards Paseo, then turn left. Guadalupe and Paseo is the heart of railyard area. Home to our famous Farmers Market... right in front of you..on the right just past Guadalupe St... follow the people, you can't miss it, Sat. morning. The beautiful new Railyard Park is near too. Explore the area with it's galleries, shopping, and restaurants. Tomasita's is great for Margarita's and Northern New Mexican food. Green or Red? Chile. You will be asked...try them both. This is a local staple. Ask for sour cream on the side to quell any fires!
Cowgirl Hall of Fame...a fun place for a fun lunch and a couple of cold ones.
Staying on Guadalupe, gaze upon the stunning Virgin de Guadalupe statue and rose gardens. Then on towards San Francisco St., turn right here...this is a wonderful walking street with shops and very interesting stuff! And it borders our world famous Plaza, with it's great people watching, ...kick back with a Haagen Das ice cream! Trinket or treasure, barter with the Indians sitting under the Palace of the Governors portal.
There is more than enough to keep you busy, whatever your taste, within a few blocks of the plaza, than you could possibly see in a few days...you start thinking you will have to come back...It is so beautiful.
Strikingly beautiful. A picture everywhere you look. They say the original artists were seduced by the golden, late afternoon light. It's still seducing! Santa Fe is the second largest art market in the US.
You could grab one of the pedalled rickshaw rides, from the Plaza, have her ride you down Canyon Rd., take it all in, and come back to explore later.. (especially Friday evening Gallery Openings). Then have her pedal you home to the casita.
Just in time to do a quick load of laundry in the brand new facilities in the garden patio area. Again enoying the patio with an afternoon refreshment.
Hmm starting to think about dinner. Grilling on the patio?
Trader Joes grocery, has an amazing array of offerings for any meal. If you don't have a TJ'S at home check it out. It is a little different...perfect for the 'City Different'! We also have a Whole Foods...and Albertson's, all in the neighborhood.
Or maybe you want to splurge on a nice dinner out. You can't go wrong with Coyote Cafe, Santa Cafe, Pasquals (breakfast, lunch or dinner!), Vanessi, with it's fun piano bar. Too many to list...Santa Fe is known for it's great food...have fun exploring!
After dinner entertainment might include dancing at Rouge Cat, our gay bar. Or live music at El Farol, on Canyon Rd.
Come home to your casita, light a little fire in the fireplace, enjoy a hot tub, then to bed in the cotton-y, downy, dreamy, king size bed.
Next day...Get out of town! Head in any direction...you'll find amazing things!
Or stay and enjoy so much. much more. The world famous Opera. The Indian Market, the third week-end in August, the. International Folk Art Market, in July, Balloon Fiesta in Oct (Albu) always something to do. Do come back. We enjoyed your visit!
If we can help you out any further, just ask. We live on site and are here for you. for a small service fee, we offer personal services such as having your casita kitchen stocked with basics of your choice, upon arrival. A catered dinner. A personal driving tour of Santa Fe. Roses and Champagne, for that special occasion!

Owner's Profile
Owner Description
Year Purchased: 2011
Nadine and Linda migrated to Santa Fe many years ago from Minneapolis, Minnesota and Portland Ore. Both came seeking a more temporate climate and SUN and found it! We endure about two weeks of real winter and two weeks of hot summer weather. Both women fell in love with the beauty and laid back life style here in Santa Fe. Nadine a retired Psycho- therapist and Linda a long time hairdresser have combined their talents to offer a different kind of inn. Linda, an interior design buff, is busy and happy re-designing the interior decor, as well as creating the new patio/garden area. Nadine, a budding artist herself, enjoys the challenge of a blank canvas. Moving from water color to the more demanding oil media. We enjoy travelling to favorite locations; Mexico, Istanbul, London, Bali, Fiji...where Nadine can get under the water, scuba diving...while Linda sits on the beach with an umbrella drink and a good book. We're both avid readers. We often take our two Coton de Tulear pups, Cooper and Mickey, with us...as you will enjoy bringing yours with you. Santa Fe is very pet friendly. We relish our stunning lavender sunsets. The both love art galleries, a favorite being Gallery 822 on Canyon Rd. We savor the exquisite restaurants, including those serving our famous CHILE dishes. The outdoors beckens us for a mountain top hike, or bike ride or just basking in the sun with a lovely something/someone of our choice. Bottom line is both women feel this is their sacred home on earth.
Why the Owner Chose South Capitol
The kaleidoscope of color in the sunset. The chrystal clear santin-y air. Clarity. Having lived here for many years we both clearly understand the beautiful and historic value of Santa Fe. It is the oldest state capitol, and city in the country, founded in 1610. It is also the highest city in the country at 7000' altitude...we could not imagine a better place to live, visit or invest in.. We enjoy a diverse, political and cultural climate. 20% of Santa Fe is gay and all are welcome! We have a small airport in Santa Fe, but most fly into Albuquerque, about 50 miles south. You can easily rent a car, or grab a shuttle, which has been known to drop you off curbside for a little sweet talk, to the driver, we are very close to his route.! From the front door of the casita you can walk out and enjoy all of the historical districts in town. The Randal Davie Audobon Society is at the end of Upper Canyon Rd. It is a stunning, short, easy hike. Or climb up to the Cross of the Martyr, a bit huffing and puffing, but you are rewarded with a magnificant view of Santa Fe. If you don't have the extra air...you can drive there. For the History buff, we have the Palace of the Governor's on the Plaza, the oldest continually occupied governmental building in the US, and a worthy museum now. In fact we have many unique museums to choose from. And of course not to missed is the Georgia O'Keefe museum...a diamond in our beautiful cap. The summer brings music on the Plaza every week night 6:30 to 8:30...very fun, different everynight. Lots of locals. Another local secret is the 4th of July morning, on the Plaza, where all of Santa Fe, well it seems like it, turn out for a pancake feast on the Plaza. And an antique car show...amazing how good those old cars look void of humidity...ahhhh. Our "Crowning Jewel", celebrating it's 90th anniversary, is the internationally famous "Indian Market" A not to be missed.
The Unique Benefits of this Studio
This casita is a unique historical adobe building. It has a big wood burning fireplace. The art represents Flores...flowers. Flowers everywhere. There is a comfy recliner chair perfect for curling up with a good book. A convertible sofa and large convenient coffee table add to make it so cozy. And the piece de restistance is the heavenly king size bed draped in cotton and down. Yummy! The kitchen is fully appointed, with all amenities ie. gold coffee filter! Recently upgraded adding stainless steel appilances. Microwave, toaster, blender, dishes and all utensils..plus more. Plastic ware for use in garden spa area .Outside your back door is a private patio with a table for two! You will notice the creek running past..it is the Acequia, or ditch..You will feel the magic! Smoking is allowed on the patio. Then notice the spacious bathroom with lots of extra storage. And woo hoo a jetted tub, and rainfall shower head. Fluffy white robes, which also come in handy on your way to the shared hot tub spa, in the garden. Beach towels supplied for the spa area. Good lightening and hairdresser approved blow dryer and professional hair care products round out the bath. The lush garden has comfortable seating for the use of all our guests. There is also a fridge and small sink. Perfect for a lovely dinner prepared on the large gas grill. We have added the coin operated washer and dryer, so you can take your clothes home clean!! Want a private tour of Saanta Fe...we will drive you ourselves...just mention to arrange...we'll also stock your unit or add flowers and champagne for that special occasion.

We were thrilled to discover Lavender Sunset-our casita was clean, comfortable and so welcoming. The kitchen was fabulous, the beds were luxurious and comfy and Linda and Nadine were wonderful hosts (not to mention their adorable dogs:-)). We were happy to be so close to the Plaza and galleries and shopping and the casita was also very peaceful (the hottub soak in the evening was divine)! We are already planning our next trip to Lavender Sunset!! What an amazing introduction to our first visit to Santa Fe!

My wife and I recently enjoyed 5 nights in a neighboring unit, Casita Desero, and we couldn't have been happier. Given the unit's location (just a few, easily walked blocks from the museums, galleries, shops and restaurants in/near the Historic Plaza), the friendly and helpful new owners and the excellently-furnished interior, we're looking forward to our next Southwest Getaway, when we'd hope to stay again in one of these beautiful casitas.
Recommended for:Romantic getaway, sightseeing, tourists without a car.
