Welcome! Our backyard cottage is:

In a Great location: Easy neighborhood walks will take you to all manner of restaurants, coffee shops, bookstores, and the usual retail attractions of the big city. The Woodland Park Zoo is so close we can hear the siamangs at feeding time. Phinney Ridge rates as “very walkable” with a 77 “Walkability Score.” If you walk over the top of Phinney Ridge, go down to and around Greenlake, and then return to our cottage, you will have taken one of America’s best urban five-mile walks. The location also is perfect for parents visiting children going to the University of Washington or Seattle Pacific U.

Comfortable: The cottage has natural light on all four sides plus a skylight. All the windows have shades (and screens in season.) The bed is a queen-size top-of-the-line convertible couch. There is plenty of hot water from a dedicated water heater. The mini-kitchen includes a microwave oven with an exhaust fan, a two-burner stovetop, a mini-fridge, an automatic water boiler, and a toaster. We have supplied the kitchen with the basics if you want to take meals in. There is plenty of short-term storage, free Wi-Fi, a flat-screen TV, and an iPhone hook-up so you can play your own music.

Private: The cottage is a completely self-contained unit detached from our house. It includes a kitchenette and a bathroom with a shower stall. Enjoy your own patio for outdoor eating, coffee drinking or reading. You may park off-street in our driveway if you require that.

Safe: We live in a quiet neighborhood with families with kids and grandkids. Our cottage is at the end of our driveway and it is illuminated by motion-detection lights and protected by dead-bolt locks.

Clean: The cottage is all new construction from 2011. We clean professionally between guests and we work to keep the living spaces uncluttered and open.

Attention to detail: Rick Treston, one of Seattle’s true craftsman builders, managed all construction. The bathroom and the foyer are finished with imported Italian tile. The patio features tumbled blue stone pavers. There are hand-finished surfaces throughout. The kitchen counter is granite.

Solar powered: As of early 2013, the Phinney Cottage is now powered by solar panels on our property. Go green!

Tale of the Tape: Inside dimensions over-all: 13’ x 25’ or 325 square feet; Main room: 206 sq. ft.; Bathroom: 38 sq. ft.; Patio: 112 sq. ft.

Phinnney Cottage exceeded my expectations. The owners are friendly and helpful, the cottage is easy to find coming from Sea-Tac airport via public transportation, the neighborhood features beautiful homes and yards, and there are many shops, restaurants and cafes within walking distance. I would happily stay there again when I am next in Seattle.

Phinney Cottage is located in a wonderful family neighborhood - quiet, safe, walkable. I was there for four weeks, and felt very comfortable. The owners are great to work with, and are quite accommodating. The cottage is new and modern construction, and is very clean. Although there is no oven and the refrig is small, I found the kitchenette (with micrwave and 2-burner stove top) to be quite adequate for my needs. I mostly kept my car parked in the drive, and walked wherever I could. If you are up for some hill walking, the walk down and around Green Lake, then back up to Phinney Ridge, is beautiful and great exercise. I did it quite regularly. There are coffee shops, eateries, and bars within easy distance of the cottage, and the zoo is several blocks down the street. There is easy access to Aurora Ave to get downtown without freeway travel. I highly recommend Phinney Cottage for singles or a couple.

My partner and I and our 3 month old daughter stayed in this converted garage-cum-studio cottage in Phinney Ridge. It was light, bright, clean and self contained with attractive touches including small brick patio that a sliding glass door opened onto, kitchenette, large LCD screen, sound system, sky light over bed, and perfect location for low key vacation being able to travel on foot to Phinney Ridge, Green Lake, Ballard, the zoo, etc. We highly recommend. Peaceful, quiet, relaxing.

This was the 1st time I had ever used VRBO and I must say that I am impressed. The cottage was in pristine condition. The owners did a first rate job in making this small unit very homey. The fold out bed was very comfortable, which was greatly appreciated by a person with back issues. The shower was excellent with plenty of pressure and hot water. The place seemed to be very well insulated which made you quickly forget how wet, damp, and cold it was outside. I never felt uncomfortable. The weather was not conducive to getting much use of the nice deck in the rear, but in nicer weather would have been a nice place for morning coffee or evening relaxation. The interior decor was very tastefully and simply done. Another nice touch was the chair near the slider. It was very comfortable for reading or watching TV. About the only thing I might suggest by way of improvement is the outdoor light could be a little brighter, but I loved that fact that it was on a motion senser. I would love to stay there again when ther weather is better. My thanks to the owners and VRBO for a very pleasant stay. Separate VRBO payment issues; There was some confusion regarding making the final payment before arrival. I think your website could do a better job in explaining the payment process and making it easier. Initially, I received an email with a request for payment and provided a button for this procedure. That was simple and straight forward. But for the final payment, I was told the payment was due by a certain date, but I could find no way on your website to perform that function. Finally I emailed the owner asking how I was to make the payment. The next day I received an email requesting the payment which was made. A person should not have to wait for an email to make a payment; he should be able to pay whenever he chooses. If you could fix this, it would make your service hard to beat. I found most aspects of your site very easy to use and overall would rate it very highly. I will use your service again.

The photo does not do this cottage justice. I stayed for 4 days and had a lovely, peaceful stay. The location is ideal for Phinney and I highly recommend this property. Peter and Anne were helpful and kind when I had questions.

I stayed here with my partner in August 2012 and we were very pleased. The cottage is located on the owner's property in a quiet residential setting, but they have done everything possible to make it feel very private and were very respectful. I was impressed with how thoughtful the design of the cottage was and although we only stayed a few nights, we would have been comfortable there much longer. The cottage is about a 25 minute bus ride from downtown and you can get there without transferring buses. You can also walk to some of the other Seattle neighborhoods from Phinney Ridge to explore. The only thing that was not ideal is that the bus system in Seattle is not as good as in other cities and the one bus line near the cottage is not always frequent, but unless you are planning to take the bus in and out of downtown multiple times in a day, this isn't an issue (especially considering how affordable the cottage is!) I would definitely recommend this place to friends who wanted to stay in the area.

The Phinney cottage allowed us the luxury of space and solace we were seeking on our vacation. The location offered a variety of parks, shopping, and eateries within walking distance without the hustle bustle of the big city life in Seattle. It was quite, cozy, and very comfortable. The hosts were gracious and personable; we look forward to our next visit!

This cottage is a gem! Comfortable, quiet, fresh and clean! Artistic, calming decor. The location is great for urban walking to fun restaurants and Green Lake. Easy drive to Seattle attractions. Everything you need in an efficient space! The owners are friendly, but unobtrusive and provide lots of good written info about the neighborhood and area attractions in a handy booklet. Highly recommend.
