We were looking for an inexpensive place for our families (3 generations of adults and small children) to meet up from around the country. The location is absolutely lovely -- a long grassy lawn that ends a the river edge with Adirondack chairs facing the Chester River and then the long dock with a bench and crabpot at the end. The kitchen was functional with a nice long island and the separate dining area had plenty of room. The nearly fully glassed sun room had a perfect seating arrangement and full view of the river and across to Chestertown. Only one bath seemed like a limitation but the toilet in the attached utility room and the affordability of the house more than made up for it. There were plenty of sleeping options with 3 queen beds (a futon in sun room, a queen beneath a twin, and a queen master bedroom) and 3 twin beds. Our focus was to spend a day 45 minutes south in St. Michael's at the Chesapeake Maritime Museum which we loved and eat crabcakes and hushpuppies at the St. Michaels Crab and Steak House. Spending the mornings and evenings at the house sauntering to the river and taking lots of pictures of the sunset and the different types of boats was a delight. The Kalmar Nyckel ship even sailed by - a replica of the ship that brought the founding Swedes to Delaware. We found it docked in Chestertown on our way out of town. The owners were very helpful with a helpful house manual. We enjoyed using the Keurig because we could each have what we wanted including hot chocolate. I would rent this house again.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, sightseeing, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, girls getaway.
Owner response: Lisa - thanks for the detailed review and glad you enjoyed it. Thanks also for leaving some useful notes to our house manual - I'll add those as it always helps getting feedback to make it easier for others to follow the instructions.

My husband and I stayed there for the Columbus Day weekend. The lovely, clean house is in a quiet neighborhood overlooking a beautiful scenic section of the river and is a short drive across the Chester River to Chestertown. We walked around Chestertown, shopped, biked on the bike trail, ran at the nearby college track, ate at the lovely cafes and dined at the Whistle Fish restaurant looking out at the river and marine. We even watched the bike portion of a triathlon while we sat outside at a cafe downtown. We enjoyed First Friday and also the book sale at the library. The town was relaxing and had a good positive feeling. The farmer's market on Saturday was stocked with many local hand made items and also abundant local produce. We would go back to the house at night happy and tired and ready to sit in the sun room or out on the dock and watch the boats go by on the river. We had a lovely time there! David answered all our questions quickly and very politely and with a wonderful helpful attitude. We appreciated that very much.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, age 55+, sightseeing, families with teenagers, girls getaway.

We really enjoyed our stay at this property and the owner is great to work with! It was a little further from the DC area than we originally thought (our own error), but the drive is pretty and takes you over the Chesapeake Bay Bridge. The neighborhood is quiet and the birds sing beautifully in the morning, plus you have a fabulous river view. The house is kept clean and has plenty of room, plus little extras which were appreciated. Definitely worth it!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, sightseeing, families with teenagers, girls getaway.

The house was clean and very comfortable. The view was great, right on the river. The photos and description were very accurate. One of the nice features was that the sun room door could be closed so our young adult children could stay up late and have fun while we could get some sleep! The owner was very helpful throughout the entire process. I would definitely recommend this rental! We want to return for another weekend away.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with young children, families with teenagers, girls getaway.
Owner response: Thanks for the review and thanks for staying with us. Look forward to having you stay again and glad we could accomodate the extra last-minute guests.

We had a wonderful mini vacation. The house was clean and provided all we needed in the way of kitchen supplies and extra goodies for the bath. Kayaked every day and enjoyed a glass of wine, or two, in the evening watching a magnificent sunset. Visited the town and had a very good dinner at the Whistling Fish. Recommend the peach crisp with peach ice cream for dessert. Yum! I have recommended the property to a friend and she is looking forward to a visit. Enjoy! Owners very helpful.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, sightseeing, families with teenagers, girls getaway.
Owner response: Thanks for the review - so glad you had a great time. Very kind of you to recommend us to others.

We spent a very relaxing comfortable week at this home. We really felt that the pictures didn't do it justice and we were very pleasantly surprised. The kitchen was very well equipped, even down to a teapot, which as Brits we really appreciated. We especially enjoyed the sunroom with the views of the river and amazing sunsets. The kayaks were used and enjoyed as was the dock, just for watching the river and boats go past. The house was very clean and well cared for. It is good value for money with three good sized bedrooms and plenty of space to relax in. The only small complaint we had was the double bed, would have preferred a queen and it was too hard for my wife, it was fine for me. Thank you for a very enjoyable week.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, families with teenagers, girls getaway.
Owner response: Stephen - thanks for staying at our River House. We are really glad you enjoyed it. Based on your feedback, we will now be speeding up the planned replacement of the full bed for a queen. That should be in-place in a few weeks. UPDATE - the new queen bed is in-place!
