Hale Puako has been owned and loved by the same family since 1978. Savor some time as they have, on this half acre of paradise, surrounded by a lush, green landscaped yard, numerous coconut palms, and a stunning view of Puako Bay. From the home and lanai you can watch the sailboats moored in the bay, or turtles basking on the lava rocks in front.
The original A-frame home includes a full kitchen, living area and oceanview loft with twin beds. A second bedroom just off the kitchen and nearby full bath has overhead skylights for moon and star gazing as you rest in the comfortable queen-sized bed. An addition to the home, added more recently, has a oceanfront dining and lounging lanai, plus a master bedroom with a brand new California-king bed and a second cozy oceanfront deck for relaxing with a tall, cool beverage. An upstairs office is available for those who must work while on vacation. Office includes high-speed internet access and a fax machine.
This unique piece of paradise is one of the original Puako seaside homes located just steps away from snorkeling, kayaking and swimming right in front of the home!

Why the Owner Chose Puako
It was love at first sight when we saw the house that became Hale Puako on our first trip to Hawai’i Island in 1965. Then it took us 13 years to check out possibilities on the other Islands, find the cash – and - the courage to buy! Hale Puako has been a joy to us, our family and friends since 1978. We hope you will enjoy our piece of paradise.
Locally known as "Beach 69" this sandy beach is great for swimming, snorkeling and sunbathing. Shade trees nearby. Turtles and mantra rays plus colorful reef fish.
Owners Umila and Narand Patel provide the neighborhood with newspapers, DVD rentals, food, and beverages plus a local book lending library.
Historic Hokulea Church was founded 150 years ago and still has Sunday morning services.
The Fairmont Orchid Hotel is walking distance from Puako. Offers tennis, golf, dining, spa, classes, massage and entertainment.
Walking distance from Puako. Offers dining, shopping, entertainment, golf, spa, fitness center, tennis and restaurants.
Closest grocery store with a deli, meat and seafood, bakery, produce and sushi. Open 5 am to 11 pm daily.

I have lived on the Big Island for over 45 years and have enjoyed the beauty of Puako for 35 of those years. We were unable to rent our favorite hangout this past holiday season, so we booked Hale Puako. It is a wonderful location with easy access to the only sandy beach at Puako. The house was well-appointed and the master bedroom was stunning. Lots and lots of kitchen utensils, even to a stockpot for brining the turkey! I would definitely recommend this special spot.

This is by far the nicest house available in this price range in Puako. I've rented three other houses along the beach in Puako. The others were pleasant but somewhat of a disappointment with either the beach or house or both! This house is spacious for up to two couples and two children. The floor plan is good for privacy but still has wonderful common areas for meals and gathering. Even on windy days the glass fronted central lanai is wonderful for enjoying the view and the sun. The beach access is very easy and you'll find you can enjoy the ocean from the deck, lanai or on the lava rock beach like it's truly your own! Entry to the water is over the beautiful lava rocks typical of Puako. There's a small area of sand directly in front of the house or about 300 feet of sandy beach next door. The house has a very large grass yard surrounded by walls and hedge giving privacy from the church and neighbor. The houses furnishings and baths are comfortable and in good repair but very well used (just the way I think a vacation home should be). I will definitely try to rent this house again for future vacations.

This is my all-time favorite vacation rental. It helps that it's right next door to one of the best swimming holes on the big island, but it's the location and the layout that makes it unique. Each of the two wings is oriented to a different view, the bedroom wing looks out to sea and the kitchen wing looks down Puako Bay. Because both sides of each wing are covered with louvers, you also get views angled out through the center deck. The result is more than a 180 degree view of the sea. You live with the sea here, it is the front yard, especially at high tide. I'm never lived in a place with such an intimate relationship with the ocean. Every view is different and special, just looking out the front deck, over moored sailboats, the bay and Kohala Mountain beyond - wow. I spent a lot of time working on a laptop in the bedroom wing, and every time I looked up I couldn't believe where I was, what I was seeing. The house itself is clean and neat, but very much lived in. I had to smile every time I looked for a tool or a kitchen gadget, usually a vacation rental has very barren drawers, but this house has like three of everything stuffed in there, just from being occupied so long. I love the way the house works with the wind, there is little glass, but acres of screens, often I wouldn't turn on the fans at all, no need. Finally, it's one of the most private houses I've been to, one neighbor is a couple hundred yards down the bay, and the other house seems to be usually empty. The church gets a little noisy on Sunday morning, the bell is an very effective alarm clock, but you'll be up looking out at the sea long before then. I can't say enough about it, life is too short not to spend a few months of it here.
