  • Great property near the great little town of Atenas

"Our stay in this upscale house on the top of a hill was wonderful. The open floor-plan house with modern kitchen house has everything one needs for a place in the central highlands. An easy 30 minute drive from the San Jose airport lands one in the little town of Atenas and a five minute car ride up into the hills finds you in the heart of luxury. Atenas has everything you need to make this your base of operation to explore the central highlands. Poas Volcano is about 1.5 hour drive and Arenal Volcano is 2.5 hours. Both can be day-trips, but we stayed overnight in Arenal to get the best use of our time. Lots of other fun stuff to do in the outdoors. And returning to the house after an active day to find the pool inviting us in for a dip was a nice addition."

  • Cabinas Los Tucanas

"Cabinas Los Tucanas is a beautiful retreat away from the chaos of city and life. Nestled at the base of the rain forest with a peaceful stream to carry your stress away, you will find reprieve and renewal. The kitchen is perfectly outfitted to cook but you're close enough to town to enjoy many Costa Rican dining options. The loft is charming but not ideal for adults, although, my husband (54) and myself (42) did manage it for a week. Stefan was so helpful throughout our stay, and the birding is wonderful! We highly recommend Casa Cabina Los Tucanes to couples and families with adolescent-preteen children that want to be close enough to enjoy all the adventures The Arenal Area but remote enough for extreme relaxation. Pura Vida mi amigo!"

  • A Wonderful Mountain Retreat!

"We spent 2 weeks in this lovely casita and loved every minute! The casita is comfortable, clean, well equipped and has an ever changing view as the clouds blow by and reveal the stunning panoramic view of the Gulf of Nicoya. We were visited by a variety of birds and butterflies daily as the grounds are beautifully kept. Norm and Collie were awesome hosts! Collie greeted us with fresh muffins, and they were both a wealth of information and ideas about living in Costa Rica. Their directions for finding the property were extremely accurate. You must have a 4 wheel drive to get around Costa Rica, and , as we discovered, a GPS is a good idea as the signage is not the greatest! The San Ramon area has lots to offer. Be sure and go to the Farmers' Market on Friday afternoons! We explored the Atenas, Grecia, and Sarchi areas, the Botanical Garden in Sarchi is lovely, soaked in the surf at Playa Dona Ana, enjoyed massages at Villa Blanca and also took in the La Garita Animal Habitat, The Butterfly Farm and Rancho San Miguel in La Guacima and the La Paz Waterfall Garden. We also just curled up and watched the lightening over the coast! There is no TV and the DVDs were not working, but the WiFi is excellent, so we used that for Netflix and reading. All in all, we would highly recommend this property to anyone looking for a quiet retreat from the hectic world below, and we would stay there again."

  • LOVED THIS PLACE!!

"We stayed here with our son and his girlfriend and had an absolutely wonderful time. The home is as lovely as it looks in the pictures! What we didn't realize is that the two bedrooms are in two separate buildings - making it perfect for two couples giving each great privacy. The main house is in the middle. The view is spectacular and we loved sitting on the veranda at night watching the lighting show off in the distance! We took advantage of the offer to have someone come in an cook for us and the meal was delicious and it made for a relaxing time for us! I tend to be skeptical of reviews and if you are like me, I hope you'll take this review to heart!! Thank you so much for a very memorable time!"

Vacations in Costa Rica Delve into the Past

The history of Costa Rica dates as far back as the pre-Columbian era. The area was inhabited by natives, even when the Spanish settlers found the land in 1650. Though there were small uprisings, the natives of Costa Rica were very welcoming to settlers sharing their lands. Religious uprisings did occur when Monsignor don Esteban Lorenzo de Tristan wanted to erect a parish. Your vacations in Costa Rica will allow you to see this parish along with other churches from the past. A good idea is to plan out your trip to the churches while having breakfast at Alajuela resorts.
