Timberscombe is a charming village, which has a pub (serving food and is dog-friendly), church, post office and infant school.
Dunster (3 miles from Timberscombe) is generally recognised as one of the most perfectly-preserved medieval villages in England. There are many attractive and historic features, including a 17th century watermill (which still grinds flour), a pack horse bridge and of course Dunster Castle, owned and managed by the National Trust.
The coast can be accessed at Dunster beach or Minehead, or further west at Porlock Weir or Lynmouth (shingle beaches). North Devon's sandy beaches are an hour away by car.
In recent years a wood in the valley has become famous for the abundance of snowdrops. Hence the area has become known as 'Snowdrop Valley'. The snowdrops bloom around February and a park and ride system operates from Wheddon Cross to enable visitors easy access to the "carpet of snowdrops".
