Come to Highforest Dome to Make Memories, Explore our Endless Beaches, Conquer the Challenges of Hiking, Biking, Kayaking, Boating, Swimming, Boating, Finding Peace, and Whales…
Highforest Dome is found on Whidbey Island, north of Seattle, Washington. Take a short 20 minute idyllic ferry ride, with fantastic views of mountains and islands, then drive 20 minutes up into the Highforest, to find your dreams.
With windows and skylights everywhere you look, we bring in the sky, streams of light, and the Highforest. We have great air conditioning, however, it is a rare thing to need it here in the Northwest. There's nothing like this experience!
Waking up in a dome full of light, is a wonder in itself. As you step outside at night, far away from the city lights, you’ll see a sky full of stars and moonlight, and you can listen for the night forest sounds.
You’ll want to dream away some time, exploring the minutia of the woods around the domes, sure not to miss the "tall and tiny" details. You may get to pick huckleberries right out in the front yard. Then, take time to “Discover Whidbey Island” even more.
Take Time Together as family and friends in this wonder filled place. There are two lakes within a mile for swimming, boating and fishing. These two lakes: Goss Lake & Lone Lake are stocked with trout for seasonal fishing.
You can enjoy your own cooking, barbecuing, or even sample Whidbey's many styled restaurants. Enjoy hot dogs and s'mores over the fire pit in the woods at the dome.
Whidbey Island has many, many beaches, each one different and worth exploring, from soft sand to crashing waves, rocky tide pools and massive trees. Then, you come back at night to a warm meal, and comfy beds and dear companions. You an/or your children may want to sleep on the deck under the stars.

You can lie down on a blanket on the front grass/moss, and perhaps enjoy the eagles flying overhead framed in the tree tops, as you find peace listening to the sounds of the forest ….
Come for the peace and quiet, and a great time together.

About Myrna and Rich Liddell
We built our own home finishing it in 1986. Recently we have refreshed it inside and outside, with new roof, new air conditioning & heat pump, some new skylights, and new decor. The project was a family experience from the beginning. We hand finished the beams, built the fine craftsman cabinetry from scratch, and our young children helped lay the oak flooring.
Myrna and Rich Liddell purchased this House in 1979
Why Myrna and Rich Liddell chose Island County
When we first walked this forest, at it's highest point on the land, we knew this was the place we wanted to build our dream home. For many years we could see Mt. Ranier out our dining window, which is 100 plus miles away. Now we see great variety of beautiful forest which surrounds us and we love it!
What makes this House unique
What other time in your life will you be able to stay in not one but two Geodesic Domes? Come as often as you wish, and we welcome you!

Very attractive, peaceful site and house.
We had a lovely time picking huckleberries in the woods and front yard, and spent some peaceful hours on the deck listening to the birds and watching a squirrel or two. The house is well equipped, including a piano. We were glad of the AC on two nights, partly due to humidity and partly due to smoke from wildfires, which had blown into the area. We would happily stay here again.
I would suggest adding a rail to the outside stairs, for those of us with mobility-stability issues. While the house isn't advertised as handicapped accessible, having a master bed on the first floor is very useful, and makes it attractive for those of us who are stair challenged.
We are so glad you and your family had such a lovely time together at Highforest Dome.
Yes, "peaceful" best describes our special vacation home in the woods.
We have so many huckleberries and you came at just the right time!
Thank you for your suggestion of adding a small rail to the outside steps. We will make this improvement while preparing for 2018 spring and summer season.
You and your family are welcome back any time, Kris. It was a pleasure to have you all.
Very unique rental with plenty of space. I vacation on Whidbey each year and this is the place!!!
This rental is great. The dome house is a one of a kind rental and is very unique inside and out. It is very roomy and the vaulted ceiling in the family room make it feel even bigger. The owners thought of everything all the way down to the family board games for the time you want to stay and relax. I recommend using the trails just down the street but take a photo of the map with your phone before you enter so you don't get lost in there. I went with four children ages 7-13 and they made the 2.5 mile hike without to much complaining. We could have hiked dozens of miles with all the trails in there. It was nice having it so close to the rental.
We spent most of our time in the Langley area which was a 6 mile bike ride from the rental. If you are not into the hills take the route towards lone lake to the south. It is less hilly with only one incline to really worry about on the way there. The route by the ocean is beautiful but the hills will kill you if you are not ready for it.
Goss Lake was very close to the rental however I found Deer Lake to be a little easier and less crowded but either will do. We took paddle boards and were on the lake for hours.(take sunscreen!!!!)
Also with the bus service on the island is free so you are a able to catch a bus not far from the rental and you are able to connect with the whole island. I will say it is a 15 min walk or a short bike ride but it is possible to use the bus service as an alternative to driving. Plus walking anywhere on the island is nice so the short walk is not bad to get to the bus.
All in all this is a great rental. It is central to just about everything on the south end of Whidbey for whatever reason you are there. I had a very relaxing time and would not hesitate to rent here again.
We loved having your family here. We look forward to seeing you again.
We loved it when you said your children loved being here inside and out!
Thanks so much for your comments and ideas.
