2 BR, 2 BA lakefront cottage. PEDAL BOAT and CANOE INCLUDED!
Come enjoy our cozy, 672 sq ft lakefront cottage with lovely mountain and sunset views perfectly situated overlooking Lake Lure. A beautiful, brief one hour drive from bustling Asheville, then four short steps from our quiet road and you will enter the top floor of The Turtle House, renovated to include modern amenities while still retaining it's rustic charm.
On the front entrance level we have one full bath (linens provided) with stack washer/dryer, vanity sink and tub/shower. Also on the top floor are two bedrooms. The master bedroom has one queen size bed, reading lights, ceiling fan and view of lake. Our second bedroom has a bunkbed with full bed on bottom and twin bed on top (children only on top bunk). At the end of the hall is an upstairs porch. Sit back, relax on our glider or chaise lounges and take in the views from your own private retreat.
Downstairs is the living area with original knotty pine paneling, comfy sofa and chairs, perfect for unwinding in front of the gas fireplace. Our home entertainment options consist of books, games and satellite tv with DVD player or head to the Ingles on Rte 9 where movies, groceries etc are all available for you.
Adjacent to the living room is our kitchen complete with microwave, fridge, oven, stove and a dishwasher to help clean up. If you'd like to move mealtime outside to the back porch, fire up the gas grill and keep an eye on what's cooking from our classic glider and chairs. When it's time to dine make yourselves comfortable at the picnic table overlooking the lake. Outdoor living is pretty sweet at The Turtle House!
While you are enjoying the back porch, mossy yard, boathouse deck and lake, you will find for your convenience the second bathroom located off the back porch. Minimalist yet functional, it provides easy access to shower, sink and commode and is especially handy for those just finished swimming in the lake.
Take a few steps from the back porch towards the lake and you will be lured to the 12 stone stairs leading down to the deck on top of the boathouse complete with dining area, lounging chairs and some of the best views on Lake Lure. Downstairs from the boathouse deck is the dock where you will find a canoe (or soon to be 2 person kayak) and a pedal boat for getting around the lake. 5 universal fit life vests are in storage on the boathouse deck though please note: access to the inside of boathouse is locked as it contains our home maintenance supplies (plus maybe an opportunistic otter or two).
The Turtle House is located on the east side of the lake on a large quiet, cove with a no wake zone (not far off the main channel), so that swimming, canoeing and paddling are safe and fun. We are now a Certified Wildlife Habitat, an idea inspired by the turtles who occasionally come to visit our 'back yard'. For our guests who are interested in fishing, rather than fish off the dock we invite you to take one of our boats out onto the lake to enjoy the views while fishing from there. Thank you in advance for helping us care for our Turtle House friends!
Selected as one of the ten most beautiful man-made lakes in the world by National Geographic, Lake Lure is nestled in the serene setting of the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Why Karen and Jason chose Lake Lure
We realized we needed to find a way to get the family together and also get away from our daily grinds. Floating on the lake together, watching sunsets over the mountains and waking up to beautiful Lake Lure fits us perfectly!

Cozy rooms with great view of Lake Lure
Beautiful view of the water with early morning serenades from the birds. The Cabin had all that was needed although we spent most of our time enjoying the outdoors.
We loved the house and the lake. We will definitely be back soon!

Perfect little cottage for a getaway. Would like to return during warmer months to have chance to enjoy all aspects what’s offered. Would recommend to all small families and couples. Cottage very clean, and set up for relaxation.

Cozy Lakefront Cottage
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the “Turtle House” on Lake Lure!
The location is great – situated in a quiet cove right on the lake, surrounded by beautiful trees (especially during peak fall foliage when we happened to be visiting). The setting is quite tranquil, and the views of the lake and mountains are fantastic, especially from the dock.
The cottage itself is surprisingly roomy for only 672 sq ft., and provides several great options to relax and look out over the lake and surrounding mountains. We also appreciated having a kitchen with all the kitchenware we needed. One minor quibble about the master bedroom: outlets are at a premium – we had to unplug two lamps so we could charge our phones near the bed. Otherwise, everything was very clean and welcoming.
The weekend we visited was a bit dreary, so we spent a fair amount of time in the house. For one of our indoor activities, we were hoping to catch a football game on ESPN, but the channel was unavailable. Regardless, we appreciated having a nice living room space to lounge around.
Despite the weather, we loved having access to a canoe and took a couple casual sight-seeing/fishing trips around the lake. A bit of forewarning – the canoe is tricky to get in and out of the water. It took us a few attempts to lift the canoe over the swimming ladder and then bring it down about more 3 feet below the dock before we could set it in the water. (Maybe the water level was low when we visited?)
The owners were very friendly, accommodating, and quick to respond to any questions or requests. Their check-in and check-out rules are fair, except we were a little surprised the check-out rules included putting away clean dishes from the dishwasher, especially considering a cleaning fee is assessed. If you make breakfast the final morning of your stay, you may not have time to run the dishwasher afterward, so be prepared to hand-wash the dishes before you leave.
Overall, we would recommend this place for couples or smaller families looking for a lakeside getaway. The setting alone is worth the stay.
Hi Kevin, thank you for your constructive feedback and positive review. We will look into more outlet options for the bedroom and providing a list of tv stations available as well as if we can add espn. We apologize for that oversight. This is our first year as owners of the cottage and winter/cold weather entertainment with a game would be nice offering for all of us! We are looking into a 2 person kayak to replace the canoe which may be easier to get in and out of the water, and we are planning to renovate the lower portion of the boat house for easier access. We will also amend the emptying of the dishwasher departure guideline and see how that works with our future guests. Thanks again and happy travels!
