Spacious family cottage on farm on Roman Wall in Northumberland National Park

A most spacious cottage in the style of a ski lodge, with wood panelling and oak beams throughout. lodge. The massive lounge seats 6 people comfortably and is warmed by a welcoming log fire in a huge stone fireplace. The separate kitchen is well equipped with dishwasher, washing machine, and all essentials .
Bedroom 1 is equipped with locally made pine furniture and large pine double bed. It has an ensuite bathroom with shower over the bath. A mezzanine extension off this bedroom will sleep 2 extra persons in full size bunk beds.. This is only recommend for older children.
Bedroom 2 has twin beds and an ensuite bathroom with shower over the bath. Sleeps 6 persons.
Large enclosed lawned garden. Perfect for small children.
1 dog allowed

Remote but handy for Hadrian's Wall

Cosy and a good base for exploring the Roman remains. The nearby Sill and Twice Brewed pub are good for coffee and meals.

Long Hadrians Wall themed weekend

Comfortable homely cottage in amazing location. Highly recommended. Well placed for visiting Hadrians Wall. Well equipped kitchen and 2 bathrooms ensure a fantastic stay for families or 2 couples.

What a find! This was the perfect place to tick Hadrian’s Wall off our Australian family’s bucket list. The fairly remote setting gave us peace and wild skies. Valerie was so friendly and helpful and had excellent tips of where to go and what to do. The cottage was superbly well appointed and cosily warm. Thank you, Valerie!

Enjoyable, comfortable stay in peaceful scenic location

Comfortable and spacious, with useful enclosed outdoor area for our dog. Well equipped, although for a self catering property 15 minutes drive from nearest shops the fridge is a bit small if there are more than 2 guests staying .

Remote and away from the bustle

Idyllic cottage away from the towns and villages. Situated in a farm, it allowed our family to avoid the noise of modern day living. Warm and welcoming.

Wonderful time near Hadrian’s Wall

The house was spacious and in a beautiful location. Owner was friendly and helpful, although the extra cost for heating at the end of the stay was a little pricey. Overall, though, we had a lovely time.

Peaceful and relaxing retreat

This property worked out perfectly for our family. It was so peaceful and quiet. We slept like babies. We were able to easily explore Hadrian's wall and Roman ruins with beautiful hiking trails located closely by. Val is very sweet and helpful. We had everything we needed. Thank you for our English countryside retreat.

Our impressions

Excellent base for the Hadrian's Wall walk. My wife and her friend walked the wall, I dropped them off and picked them up at the start and end of each leg. A minor negative, the fridge wasn't big enough for the three of us (the cottage can accommodate 8!), but I had plenty of time to do the food shopping on a daily basis. Otherwise, we had an enjoyable stay, welcomed by the hostess on the first day and she sorted out any minor niggles during the week (i.e., the DVD player was broken, and she replaced that the following day).

Prime location near Hadrian's Wall!!

We had a great short break in this spacious cottage. The property is very, very clean and it is well kitted. There is a nice garden at the back with plenty of space to run around. The property can sleep 6 people comfortably, we were only 5. There are two additional beds on the bunk in the main bedroom which will bring the capacity up to 8. However, as Valery told us, they should be used by teenagers (over 14) and not by children, and I believe she is absolutely correct. Valerie is a very gracious host and had prepared a very warm welcome for all of us. The property is very close to all the main attractions in the area. We were very happy with our stay and we would like to recommend this property for a very peaceful and comfortable stay.
