Beautiful place to relax, nearby a wonderful town – Lucca!

We spent one week in this beautiful cottage and we loved it! The owners are very nice people and everything was perfect! It is a quite place and we slept perfectly and Lucca is nearby. So there are a lot of things to visit around and it's also a beautiful place to rest and relax. Next year we like to come again!

Lovely stay in Tuscany

Very nice place, with a fantastic view. Marina, Paulo and their lovely dog Olga is very friendly. Would book again if we go to Tuscany another time. Always helpfull with advises or helpfull sugestions.

Fantastic !

A small heaven lost in the middle of the olive trees and vineyards ! The house is clean and very well equipped and decorated, with terrace and barbecue. The swimming pool is also very nice with an incredible view on Lucca and the valley. Last (but not least) Marina and Paulo are very friendly and welcoming, always ready to help or give an advice. Well, a very good place to stay, rest and visit Tuscany ! Sophie&Jean-Baptiste

Wonderful vacation in a wonderful environment with wonderful owners ❤️

Vertaalde tekst We were warmly welcomed by Marina and Pablo. What a wonderful welcome! We were given a pleasant tour and everything was squeaky clean! Everything is present in the house. Bed linen, towels, air conditioning and even a washing machine. We were also given lots of tips to explore the area. The pool was very spacious where you could enjoy a beautiful view! We also received a delicious vegetable basket from their own vegetable garden which tasted great. This house offers everything you need to discover the fantastic and warm Tuscany. 0In short, we had a wonderful vacation with Marina and Pablo! We will definitely come back!

Relaxing with wonderful view

We spent 12 glorious days relaxing and soaking in Tuscany in the small hill town of Matraia. The hosts, Marina and Paulo, were great. They made sure our stay was very enjoyable. Available if we needed anything, but respected our desire for privacy. We were welcomed with delicious homemade plum jam and wine as a welcome gift. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook meals; it was well supplied with the pots,pans, cooking utensils, gas range with oven, and refrigerator. If you prefer to go out to eat there are restaurants close by. The washer came in very handy especially because of the length of our stay. The pool is lovely with plenty of places to sun or be shaded by umbrellas.The views during the day and the lights of the towns below at night were incredible. While there, we saw many paragliders coming off the peak. Marina provided us with information so we could paraglide too. It was very fun, seeing the countryside from a very different perspective as you quietly float over the terrain. The ride up to the Pizzorne peak, the takeoff point, was an experience in itself. Close by there is a wine and olive oil fattoria tour and cooking classes. We enjoyed the tour and the pasta class. The big grocery store Esselunga is about 15 mins away so grocery shopping was convenient. Near Esselunga there is the Promozone store (a mini-walmart of sorts) for other things you might need. The roads in Italy are narrower and windier but you get used to driving them.

Ein Träumchen

Wir, zwei Ehepaare mit Liebe zur Toskana, haben uns hier sehr wohl gefühlt, sowohl im Haus, im Garten und natürlich am Pool. Ein traumhafter Ausblick auf Lucca ist gegeben und die Umgebung ist sehr schön. In der Küche ist alles vorhanden, was ein Hobbykoch so benötigt. Tipps und Einkaufsmöglichkeiten wurden schon vor dem Aufenthalt per Messenger von den sehr netten Vermietern mitgeteilt. Die erste Hochfahrt zum Grundstück war etwas spannend, da es doch steiler bergauf geht. Man gewöhnt sich aber schnell daran (ersten Gang einlegen und los). Wir würden wiederkommen.

Typical Tuscan beauty

Everything excellent except for road leading up to rustic property. Met bin lorry on our way down and because road so narrow, we were caused to end up in a ditch, road very rutted and we damaged our car. A kind neighbour did assist us eventually getting out of it, but unfortunately we were out extra expense because of the repair to be done to the car. Everything was perfect apart from this, but this road up and down always left us a little nervous, would be good if this road could be properly resurfaced when the access is partly used for guest accommodation. Marina and Paulo were great hosts, very welcoming and informative, good recommendation of restaurant choices. Beautiful pool and surrounding area with loungers and seating. Maybe not so suitable for those with mobility problems or the elderly. In conclusion, we thoroughly enjoyed our relaxing stay and charm of the lovely rustic house. Thank you so much again Marina.

Un luogo incantevole gestito da gente meravigliosa.

Un'abitazione meravigliosa, immersa nel verde e con una vista mozzafiato. Marina e Paolo sono persone squisite, sempre gentili e pronte ad aiutarci e farci sentire a casa. La pulizia è ineccepibile. La prossima volta torneremo in piena estate per goderci un pò più di sole e caldo.

Paradise in Matraia

Where to start... I've literally checked around 300+ house rental offers, but I was always coming back to Marina's place and I'm very happy we eventually chose her place because it was the best decision! The reviews here are very accurate, Marina and Paulo are amazing hosts, always checking with us if we needed anything, but keeping our privacy, helping with restaurant reservations - btw restaurants in the area are amazing (Giomo restaurant was one of our favorites-walking distance!) They even welcomed us with a bottle of wine, home made jam and fresh eggs, very nice touch! And the place, just stunning! The views are amazing, from the pool - which we really loved! or from the barbecue place when we cooked dinner, unbelievable. The pictures here don't do the place the justice. It's even nicer in reality! House was also great, we stayed in the bigger one which has two bathrooms, which was great. Everything was neat and clean! Kitchen was very well equipped, so we didn't really miss anything. The location of the house was also great, there is a new big supermarket 10min drive from the house which has everything you need, probably even more than that, short drive to beautiful Lucca, 45min to the beach and other beautiful places are within 1-1,5 hour drive distance (Florence, Pisa, little beautiful towns). In overall we were very very happy and satisfied with our stay and we can't wait to be back to take Paulo's cooking class and meet Marina again :) Thanks for everything Marina and Paulo, we will be back!

Erholung mit Weitblick / Recreation with view

Wir verbrachten 2 erholsame Wochen in diesem mit sehr viel Herz und Hingabe ausgestatteten Haus. Es fehlt an nichts und der Blick hinunter nach Lucca ist beeindruckend- bei jeder Wetterlage. Der schöne Pool kann auch im Oktober noch gut genutzt werden, aber es war abends/nachts teilweise schon empfindlich kühl. Marina und Paolo sind sehr herzliche und hilfsbereite Gastgeber, die uns wertvolle Tipps gaben. Unsere Favoriten bei den Restaurants der direkten Umgebung: Osteria da Batano und Osteria da Giomo. We spent 2 relaxing weeks in this house equipped with a lot of heart and devotion. Nothing is missing and the view down to Lucca is impressive - whatever the weather. The beautiful pool can still be used well in October, but it was quite cool in the evening/night. Marina and Paolo are very cordial and helpful hosts who gave us valuable tips. Our favourites among the restaurants in the immediate vicinity: Osteria da Batano and Osteria da Giomo.

Dejlig udsigt

Huset ligger højt med en fantastisk udsigt. Man kører først ad en snoet vej op i bjergene og til sidst af en snoet privateje det sidste stykke. Det er en god ide at indkøbe mad inden ankomsten. Der er landsbyer i nærheden med restauranter og mulighed for let indkøb. Dejlige omgivelser og en flot udsigt over Lucca. Huset er rustikt med mange trapper. Stue i en etage, køkken på den næste etage, soveværelse og bad på næste etage igen og øverst endnu et soveværelse og bad. Betydningsfuld hvis man er dårligt gående. Værtsparret er meget venligt og hjælper gerne med råd og vejledning.

If your planes late and you have to arrive after dark it’s rough. Bring food. You will not want to drive back to town at night the Driveway is hidden, narrow, steep, rough, hairpin turns and not marked. Views are beautiful. Clean. Bring cork screw. They offer wine but cork screws don’t work. fully stocked dishes. Bring water. Pool beautiful. Their driveway is behind a brick wall with fountain.

Fantastic stay!

Family of 4 (mom dad & 2 teens) stayed for 8 nights in August 2018. From the very first email, Marina was very easy to communicate with and was always very accommodating. We have stayed in many places around the world and this was definitely one of the easiest to book. We stayed in Il Fienile, a 2 bed/2bath Villa (1 queen bed & 3 singles). Pictures are very accurate and the Villa was as described. There was lots of privacy and the only time we saw other guests (from the 2nd smaller Villa) was only occasionally at the pool. Ah, the pool...a welcome refuge after a day of sightseeing. The view of Lucca and beyond was beautiful! Lucca is about a 15 minute drive away (one way), Pisa about 30 minutes, Florence about an hour and the Cinque Terre about 1.5 hours away. We attended Paolo’s cooking school/dinner (75Euro each) and thoroughly enjoyed the class as well as our dinner afterwards - so good and highly recommend doing it! Marina and Paolo were delightful hosts and very willing to provide recommendations on sights to see and places for dinner. (Highly recommend having dinner 1 night at Osteria da Giomo 25Euro/person. No menu, they provide every course - so good and so much food!). Overall, our stay was wonderful and after checking out so many places before booking this Villa, I’m glad we booked this place...and Marina and Paolo were delightful xo!

AMAZING

Our party of four stayed for a week and loved EVERY MINUTE! The house is exactly as described/pictured and just oozes charm. The kitchen was well stocked and we cooked many delightful meals and dined "al fresco." We enjoyed the cool, salt water pool every afternoon after warm days of sightseeing. Marina was wonderful to deal with; always promply replying to any questions we had. After the hubbub of Rome, "il fienele" was a peaceful oasis high above the hills of Lucca.

Typisch toskanische Ferienwohnung inmitten der Olivenhaine und Weinberge

Die Ferienwohnung von Marina und Paolo ist landestypisch und sehr charmant eingerichtet. Die Küche ist super ausgestattet, so dass man prima kochen kann. In dem kleinen Ort, 5 Minuten von der Ferienwohnung entfernt, gibt es aber auch zwei prima Restaurants. Marina und Paolo empfangen einen mit viel Herzlichkeit und versorgen einen immer mit allen nötigen Informationen. Restaurant Reservierungen und Ausflugstipps geben die beiden immer sehr gerne. Ein Schlafzimmer mit drei Einzelbetten hat eine Klimaanlage, was andere Schlafzimmer mit einem Doppelbett and hat einen Ventilator. Das haus liegt auf circa 600 m Höhe und man hat dort wirklich seine Ruhe. Der Pool mit Blick auf Luca ist ein Traum und wird nur noch von den Mietern der anderen kleinen Ferienwohnung und von Marina und Paolo benutzt. Die Terrasse vorm Haus mit der schönen Hollywoodschaukel der möglichen einem einen tollen Blick in den Sternenhimmel und abends meistens auch ein kühles Lüftchen. We will come back!!!!

Traumhafte Lage eines tollen Hauses

Das Haus liegt auf einer Anhöhe mit herrlichem Ausblick auf die Ebene von Lucca. Vor dem Haus eine schöne Terasse mit Hollywoodschaukel und einem schattigen Pavillion mit Esstisch. Weiter unten der grosse, sehr gepflegte Pool mit vielen verschiedenen Sitzmöglichkeiten und einer tollen Aussicht. Wir hatten zu der Zeit den Pool für uns alleine, was den beiden Kindern riesigen Spass gemacht hat. Die Schlafzimmer mit bequemen Betten sorgten für erholsamen Schlaf. Es war absolut ruhig und wir konnten mit offenem Fenster schlafen (nicht mal Hundegebell). Jedes Schlafzimmer hat ein geräumiges, sauberes Bad mit heissen Duschen. Die Küche war im 1.Stock. Sie ist toll ausgestattet mit allem was man braucht. Wenn es abends kühl war, haben wir in der gemütlichen Küche gegessen und Kniffel gespielt. Da es die Tage vorher viel geregnet hat, war es im Wohnzimmer im Erdgeschoss leider sehr kühl am Abend. Marina und Paolo kümmern sich sehr nett um alles, ohne aufdringlich zu sein. Wir hatten vollkommen unsere Ruhe. Auch von den anderen Gästen in der Wohnung im anderen Gebäude haben wir nichts mitbekommen. Wir können das Haus sehr empfehlen.

Great place!

Great place to relax and enjoy the spectacular view from high up the hills. Angela and Paolo are very nice hosts, always providing best tipps for travelling and dining. The house offers plenty of space, everything is nice in tuskany style and fully equipped. The garden and the pool are wonderful. We could choose between two lovely places to sit and relax or barbecue. Even though we only stayed for 4 nights, we really enjoyed our stay. Pisa is just half an hour drive, Firenze about one hour. Thanks a lot, we hope to see you again soon. Andrea & Olaf

Traumhafte Lage! Bezaubernde Vermieter(in)!DOLCE VITA!!

Haben hier wunderschöne Tage verbracht. Lage ist sensationell, direkt über Lucca. Sehr gepflegtes und liebevoll gestaltetes Anwesen.Am Pool hat man einen Wahnsinns Blick über das komplette Tal!Salzwasserpool mit Dusche direkt am Pool. Unberührte Natur, abends schwirren Glühwürmchen durch die Gegend!!Geckos am Tage und dann natürlich besonders zu erwähnen die Tiere der Besitzerin... Olga (Hund), Lilly (dreibeinige Katze)und noch ein Kater, habe mich sofort "Zu Hause" gefühlt! Tiere sind aber in keinster Weise aufdringlich und kommen nur zu Leuten, die es auch möchten, falls jemand keine Tiere mag... ;O( Wir hatten das größere Haus mit 2 Bädern, Ausstattung war klasse, alles was man braucht war in großzügigen Mengen vorhanden (Geschirr,Besteck, Gläser, Töpfe, Pfannen usw.,usw.)Kaffeemaschine ist sehr speziell, aber wenn man den Trick raus hat geht´s :O) Haus ist sehr liebevoll im Landesstil eingerichtet, Matratzen waren in beiden Schlafzimmern super. Einfach schön!! Jetzt zu Marina und Paolo :O) Vorbildliche und reizende Gastgeber, jederzeit für einen da, wenn man etwas brauchte, präsent, aber nicht aufdringlich Herzlich und freundlich... einfach zauberhaft!! Ok, Auffahrt zum Haus ist etwas abenteuerlich, aber beim 2. und 3. Mal hat man sich dran gewöhnt :O) Kann als Fazit nur sagen, wer echtes italienisches "DOLCE VITA" und "DOLCE FAR NIENTE"sucht wird es hier finden! Komme wieder! Gruß an Marina und Paolo! Have spent wonderful days here. Location is sensational, right above Lucca. Very well maintained and lovingly designed property. At the pool you have an amazing view over the entire valley! Salt water pool with shower directly at the pool. We had the larger house with 2 bathrooms, the equipment was great, everything you need was in generous quantities available (dishes, cutlery, glasses, pots, pans etc., etc.) coffee machine is very special, but if you have the trick out goes so. House is very lovingly furnished in country style, mattresses were great in both bedrooms. Just beautiful!! Now to Marina and Paolo: O) Exemplary and lovely hosts, at any time for one, if you needed something, present, but not intrusive Warm and friendly ... simply magical !! Ok, driveway to the house is a bit adventurous, but the second and third time you got used to it : O) Can only say the conclusion, who is looking for genuine Italian "DOLCE VITA" and "DOLCE FAR NIENTE" will find it here! A wonderful stay in Matraia

A lovely villa with breath-taking views. We were made most welcome by Marina and Paolo. This is an excellent base from which to explore the town of Lucca and the local Tuscan countryside. Thoroughly recommend.

très très bonne impression

Superbe ! une vue imprenable sur Lucca ( Lucques), un gite très confortable avec une terrasse de rêve. Des propriétaires super accueillants. Et dans le petit village une boulangerie et une charcuterie avec du top authentique ! Nous avons été enchantés !

Wundervoll!!

Sehr schön abgeschieden, man hat hier (bis auf die herzlichen Besitzer und eventuell dezente Mieter in der anderen Unterkunft) seine absolute Ruhe und Erholung und ist sehr privat. Für Ausflüge ist die Lage (abgesehen von der tollen Aussicht sowie) ideal! Wir haben uns sehr viele Städte angeschaut, die alle mit dem Auto in 15-90 Minuten zu erreichen waren. Marina und Paolo haben uns sehr nett begrüßt und wir bekamen sogar Kartoffeln, Salat, Tomaten, Rosmarin, Salbei (alles aus dem eigenen Garten) und Hühnereier von den eigenen Hühner als Willkommens-Geschenk! Alles (absolut alles!!) war sehr sauber und gepflegt! Nicht einmal am und im Pool konnte man nach einem etwas stürmischen Tag mit Gewittern Schmutz entdecken! Marina gab uns auch tolle Tipps bezüglich Restaurants zum Abendessen bzw. Veranstaltungen, die wir uns ansehen sollten. Wir wurden von ihren Tipps nie enttäuscht!! Werden nächstes Jahr wahrscheinlich wieder kommen! Wenn man einmal hier war, dann wird man verstehen, dass es sich nicht mehr lohnen wird eine andere Unterkunft in der Gegend zu suchen! Une semaine de bonheur en toscane

Nous avons passé une excellente semaine à Matraia. Un grand Merci à Marina et Paolo pour leur gentillesse et leur hospitalité. Marina et Paolo sont très attentifs au bien être de leurs hôtes, et sont ravis de nous conseiller de bons petits restaurants toscans. La location est magnifique, bien décorée, bien entretenue, et confortable. On s'y sent tellement bien qu'on a plus envie de partir. La vue sur les collines toscanes et Lucca est de toute beauté. L'emplacement est idéal pour visiter Lucca ( balades à vélo très agréables sur les remparts de la vielle ville ) et la région. Et la piscine au sel est tout particulièrement appréciée après les visites. Une semaine de bonheur en toscane !
