Patitiri is authentic Cretan country house remaining fully faithful to its rustic origins whilst at the same time offering all contemporary comforts. Exposed stone archways, vaulted beamed ceilings, flooring of distressed wood and local ceramics plus a scattering of vintage earthenware draw you into the property’s welcoming embrace while the larger than average garden, private pool, and covered dining terrace are a haven of sun kissed relaxation.
The interior is stylishly decorated with a blend of modern and classical furniture sitting effortlessly alongside walls of terracotta and part-exposed stone. At the heart of the lower floor, the open plan living area is bordered by a well equipped kitchen/diner, a shower room, principle bedroom with ensuite, a twin bedroom with en suite cloakroom, with stairs leading from the twin bedroom up to the first floor and a further en suite bedroom (which can be prepared as a twin or a double) that enjoys tempting views of the pool and garden from its substantial terrace.
Special mention must be made of the generously sized bathroom off the principal bedroom, which is a classic example of Cretan design featuring tiled floors of eye-catching red, green and white motifs rising up to a domed ceiling and attractively curving shower walls.
Outdoor living comes to the fore as a stable door opens onto the garden area; here you will find a refreshing private pool and various little pathways meandering through the garden of flower beds, palms and shady mature trees. Lazy days of gentle relaxation are sure to be spent on the open and shaded terraces before heading to the adjacent summer kitchen area where the whole party can enjoy dining under the stars.
Patitiri sits within the typically Greek village of Korakies, a very desirable location for locals and visitors alike being home to good amenities which include a minimarket, bakery, bank and casual cafés (1km) plus of one of Western Crete's most highly regarded tavernas, ‘Nykterida’, is within walking distance of the house (400m).
Family-friendly, with soft golden sands and laid-back tavernas, the beaches of Kalathas (4.6km) and Tersanas (6km) are also very easily reached.
A fascinating cross between the historic splendour of Florence and characterful architecture of Venice, Chania (6km) is an atmospheric gem with a jumble of bustling shopping streets and countless alluring restaurants clustered in and around one of the best-preserved Venetian ports in the Mediterranean. A visit here really must feature highly on any list of holiday activities.
