New for 2024 - Maison des Cyprès is a converted barn on the border of the Dordogne and the Charente, named after the 5 cypress trees growing in the garden, with the most amazing views over the rolling countryside.

Maison des Cyprès is the perfect house for families looking to switch off and unwind in rural France. The flexible accommodation is perfect for a family to share a holiday with grandparents or for two families to catch up and enjoy the delights that this wonderful area of France has to offer.

About the house
Even though our house isn’t in Provence we discovered that Provençal farmhouses, called mas, often have three cypress trees, planted in a triangular shape, near the entry to the property. Traditionally, this is a symbol of hospitality. When long-ago travellers passed by and saw three trees, they knew they could rest their weary feet there for the night, so we would love to welcome you to our Maison des Cyprès.

The House and Gardens
Maison des Cyprès is the ideal house for families looking to wind down and relax. Situated in a rural location with fantastic views yet close to civilisation, with a boulangerie in the nearby village and supermarkets only 15 minutes’ drive away. With four bedrooms the property sleeps up to eight people.

Upstairs there are three bedrooms; the master double with dual aspect windows to take in the incredible views, plus two twin rooms overlooking the pool and the fields beyond. There is also a spacious shower room.

Living space
Downstairs there is a large salon, with a wood burning stove to keep cosy on those autumn and winter nights and a smart TV with DVD player. This leads through to a well equipped eat-in kitchen (oven, hob, dishwasher, washing machine, microwave, coffee machine etc.) with dining table. The family bathroom, with walk in shower and separate bath, is off the hallway.

The studio
Downstairs, off the hallway is a further double studio bedroom. Adjacent to the bedroom is an additional living area with seating area, table football and a selection of books and games.

Veranda and gardens
Attached to the house on two sides is a large wrap around veranda, which can be accessed from the salon and kitchen, with dining area outside the kitchen for al fresco meals. The veranda offers wonderful shade from the heat of the day whilst still enjoying the fabulous views. The veranda, only a few metres from the swimming pool, curves around the kitchen to a gravelled area which is ideal for games of petanque in the evening sun.

The 10m x 5m pool has a paddling pool area at its entrance, ideal for babies and toddlers getting used to swimming with their parents, the pool itself then opens up with a few steps to a level 1.5m depth. The pool is surrounded by a paved area where you can relax, read and enjoy the fantastic view. For those wanting a break from the heat of the sun, there is a pergola which provides shade.

Beyond the pool there is an extensive fully enclosed garden, dotted with walnut, cherry, pear, apple, fig and of course the aforementioned cypress trees, providing both character and shade to the garden. There is a gate at the bottom of the garden which leads to the house’s private meadow which has a number of walnut trees and a large area of grass ideal for football or badminton.

The local area
Maison de Cyprès is located in a rural location, near to a village. It is perfectly located for excursions into both the Dordogne and the Charente.

Nearby there are numerous picturesque villages to explore, with activities ranging from visits to chateaux, abbeys, prehistoric caves, monolithic churches, golf, fishing, or for the more adventurous, canoeing & kayaking.
