About John

Had been coming to Maine since the early 70's . After living in different parts of the island decided to move to Town . I can walk everywhere . I can put my bike on the shuttle and take me to Jordon Pond . Then ride back home on carriage rd's . Pretty awesome .

John purchased this house in 2006

Why John chose Mount Desert Island

I Love older houses . My realtor called me and said you must see this house . Bought it on the spot . We are close to all . You would literally never have to drive anywhere on the Island . The shuttle 'The Island Exploerer" starts June 23 .

What makes this house unique

All town has to offer is within walking distance .

Awesome Rental!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful week staying in the apartment on the 2nd and 3rd floor of John's house! We loved the outdoor porch space on the 2nd floor, and, better yet, there's a bakery right around the corner! The beds were very comfortable and the house comes with all of the amenities - wifi, TV with HBO, linens, pots and pans, appliances, and all the comforts of home. Just minutes from a grocery store, two blocks from the water, a short, 10-minute walk to the town center, and within bicycling distance of the carriage trails; it's in a perfect location!

Great place!

  • 5 of 5

John's place was spacious, bright and artful, also centrally located near town. It was nice to have two floors so we could not worry about waking our kids after they went to sleep! John was a terrific host, offering local advice and had a kind approach. We hope to return!

Great Rental and Great Host

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 5 had a great stay at John's place. Plenty of room for all of us, and the place was spotless. The 2nd floor was a perfect place for the kids to sleep. John gave us several ideas of places to hike and eat. The house was close enough that we could easily walk to town. We would definitely stay again!

Charming house, great location!

  • 5 of 5

My family and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The house was clean, beds comfortable, and kitchen well-appointed. Cute deck to enjoy coffee on in the morning, plenty of lovely artwork to look at, games for the kids, and it's just a short walk to the waterfront and town. Plus John the owner is so very nice, easy to contact and has loads of recommendations for places to eat and fun things to do all around the island. Highly recommend!

Exquisite property

  • 5 of 5

Exquisite property at quieter end of Bar Harbor town, yet only a block to a great bakery, coffee shop and fine restaurants ... a bit further (1/2 mile) to the main strip with action and restaurant choices galore. Also short walk to wonderful nature, architecture and waterfront. While I stayed at this inn with my dog, I attended classes at the College of the Atlantic, about a half-mile away. Best of many worlds: interior beauty and comfort, fine dining, raw and beautiful nature, and (if inclined) academe. Most, kind and enthusiastic host, John K.

Friendly owner, great location, perfect fit for our family

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 4 had a wonderful trip to Bar Harbor. The house was a perfect fit for us. The owner, John, was very friendly and accommodating. He provided suggestions for activities and restaurants and lent us a cooler. The location of the house is great. It's an easy walk to all the restaurants and shops of downtown as well as the shuttles to Acadia. There are even a couple bike rental shops right around the corner from the house. The grocery store is also right around the corner to make it easy to cook some meals in. Thanks John!

Map

Hike the many trails in Acadia National Park, go whale watching, rent kayaks and explore the lakes and coastal areas, eat lobster, visit the wonderful shops in town, take your pick of many great restaurants, relax and do nothing, relax and swim at Sand Beach, go to the movies at the recently renovated 1920's Criterion Theatre, or watch a movie as you eat pizza at Reel Pizza, or when it's all said and done you could just eat a lobster.
