About John Upshur
I was out fishing on the Rogue River one vacation day and noticed the house on the hill and thought it was just beautiful. To my surprise and delight, it turned out to be for sale. So I bought it and planned to move from Los Angeles to this beautiful, luxury wilderness retreat. But life has a way of surprising you when you least expect it and I met a California girl who would not budge; so we got married and stayed in California. I decided it was a shame to let the house sit empty, and I couldn't bear to give it up, so I started renting it out.
John Upshur purchased this House in 2002
Why John Upshur chose Gold Beach
This is house unique in that it has expansive view of the Rogue River where it empties into the Pacific ocean. There are breathtaking views from the expansive glass windows and 1,000 ft. of decking on which to enjoy the view. In addition, the extensive use of glass throughout the house brings the outdoors inside. We are on a private street less than five minutes from Gold Beach Harbor and HWY 101. Is it is secluded but conveniently located to all local attractions. Just check out the photos to see how beautiful the house really is; we think you will agree.
What makes this House unique
World class fishing, convenient to world class golf courses, expansive, roomy yet cozy rooms, great for get togethers or private getaways, lots of outdoor sports and exploring, wonderful neighbors and lots more.

Home Away From Home
We had 2 months of scenic spender, beautiful sunsets, views of Rouge River and the Pacific Ocean, the heavily wooded forest was just beyond our expectations. The hilltop home was secluded, very quiet. Numerous deer throughout the property, one even ventured to the front entrance. Lots to due including jet boat rides, hiking the forest trails, golf and eating out at the local restaurants. Best 2 month vacation ever. It was hard to come home after such good experience. Thank You John Upshur & Glenda Williams.

Since we never heard a word otherwise during the whole month of your stay, we presumed you were enjoying yourself which Glenda later confirmed. We thank you for your timely review and would be happy to have you back as our guest anytime you can make it.

Sunsets & Rainbows
What an enjoyable place to spend a month. Our time went entirely too quickly and already planning on visiting again. The sunsets are just as awesome to watch as the storms perched high above the Rogue River and the Pacific Ocean. The house has plenty of room to spread out and enjoy quiet as well as visiting family time. We stayed in two different rooms and both of the beds were very comfortable. The kitchen was well equipped with everything and what a view to enjoy while preparing meals. We wanted to enjoy quality time relaxing, hiking, beach combing and fishing and this was an ideal place for all of that.
Thanks very much and we so enjoyed having you as our guests. You're more than welcome to return anytime.
Hilltop house was a mansion with spectacular views!
What a view! Everything was there for us to enjoy an extended stay and the weather was unbelievable. Secluded location, Windows everywhere, attached garage leading into house, thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
Thanks very much. These guests, who stayed for two months, were five stars also.
