Auchenlarie Farmhouse - a house that sleeps 9 guests in 5 bedrooms
Located along the serene coastline of Dumfries and Galloway, Auchenlarie Farmhouse, an expansive two-storey farmhouse commands stunning views of the enchanting Wigtown Bay, with access to the nearby secluded, sandy beach just a short stroll away. Within a brief drive, the majestic Galloway Hills await visitors with awe-inspiring vistas and hill walking opportunities. As the area is situated on the edge of the Galloway Forest Park, nominated Britain's first Dark Sky Park, a clear night will present amazing opportunities for star gazing.
The farmhouse boasts a well-appointed living space with a living room ideal for relaxation, and an inviting dining area for enjoying meals with loved ones. The recently renovated kitchen features an extensive range cooker and opens out to the meticulously landscaped gardens, where a generous hot tub invites relaxation under the starry skies. Ascending to the first floor, guests will find five comfortably appointed bedrooms offering ample space for a restful night's sleep, a convenient shower room, and a bathroom.
Guests are welcome to use the facilities of the owner's family run Holiday Park opposite, which include live entertainment in the Starlight Suite, a Sports Bar, Children's Arcade, Fitness Suite with Gym and Swimming Pool, or dine at the Tide & Table Restaurant or Tides Takeaway.
With a beautiful unspoilt sandy beach with a short walk, idyllic summer days can be spent building sandcastles, playing beach games, rock pooling, kayaking and paddle boarding.
The nearby picturesque small rural town of Gatehouse of Fleet provides numerous opportunities for eating out, a delightful and testing nine-hole golf course, tennis courts, river and loch fishing. Historical attractions are Cardoness Castle, a late 15th-century fortified tower house that was the ancient seat of the McCullochs, and the ruins of Anwoth Church with its atmospheric graveyard, complete with Covenanter graves.
Slightly further is the ‘Artist Town' of Kirkcudbright with its connections to the ‘Glasgow Boys' and Girls', the town is a thriving centre for arts and crafts and is home to numerous private galleries and the public Kirkcudbright Galleries which hosts a wide range of exhibitions. The town is also home to a working harbour and local fishing fleet, the Dark Sky Gin Distillery, next to which you will discover the Dark Sky Planetarium, a state of the art, interactive space themed experience which is well worth a visit and learn about our night skies. If History is your thing the NTS property Broughton House home of the artist E.A Hornel along with its Japanese inspired garden is located on the High Street, with MacLellan's Castle holding court over the town. The Summer Festivities Committee run a full and varied programme of events throughout most of the year including a Jazz Festival, popular Scottish Nights, a Tattoo, Country Fair and an Arts & Crafts trail throughout the summer months and a Fringe Festival and a Festival of Light held in the autumn.
With this being Scotland, golf is never far away and numerous courses are within easy reach. Sections of the Forestry Scotland 7 Stanes Mountain Bike Trails are easily accessible, the nearest being at Kirroughtree near Newton Stewart, with others within easy reach by car.
For the younger generation, Ernespie Farm in Castle Douglas offers both indoor and outdoor play areas along with a café with delicious offerings for all ages.
