Modern Cottage, Countryside Views, Private Parking
Summary:
This beautifully refurbished 4-bedroom cottage in Pilton combines countryside charm with modern comforts. The cosy living area features a wood burner and smart TV, leading to a well-equipped kitchen and a bright conservatory with stunning countryside views. Downstairs also includes a double bedroom and bathroom with a bath/shower. Upstairs are a king, twin, and single room, sharing a second shower room. Outside, enjoy private parking for 3 vehicles and the tranquillity of rural surroundings.
The Space:
For families, there is a travel cot, a high chair and a stair gate. You'll also find a fenced garden, perfect for letting kids and dogs roam free! You'll also find a patio with seating and lovely countryside views. There is a BBQ available but it must be requested as it is not kept on site. (The BBQ is available for use from April to October)
Guest Access:
Guests will have full access to the cottage and garden and enjoy the surrounding land in the vicinity of the cottage and the public footpaths close by.
The Neighborhood:
Welcome to your serene retreat in Pilton, a charming village that seamlessly blends history, culture, and tranquil countryside. Nestled in the heart of Somerset, you'll find a myriad of activities just a stone's throw away. The cottage itself is situated on an ancient farm with stunning surroundings and a lake just opposite.
For the nature enthusiast, Pilton offers a gateway to the stunning Mendip Hills. Lace up your hiking boots and explore scenic trails that wind through lush meadows and ancient woodlands. Don't miss the opportunity to visit Glastonbury Tor, an iconic hill with panoramic views that stretch as far as the eye can see. You don't need to travel far though, as a public footpath runs through the farm and can be accessed to the rear of the cottage. From here you can explore countryside trails for miles around.
Immerse yourself in the village's history by taking a stroll through its quaint streets. Discover the medieval charm of St. John the Baptist Church or just take in the classic cottage architecture. Pilton is also the home of the world-renowned Glastonbury Festival and you'll find remnants of this rich cultural phenomenon all around. Although the cottage is normally booked over Glastonbury, there are many other smaller festivals in the area to enjoy.
For those seeking a taste of local flavours, Pilton and its surroundings boast quaint pubs and eateries. Sample artisanal cheeses, indulge in a cider tasting, or simply relax in a cosy tearoom. The Crown is a family and dog-friendly restaurant with a garden, play area, and live music. You can also find similar at the Pilton Club which is a popular bar with live music. Pilton Coffee Shop is open on mornings at the Methodist Chapel. There is also a Co-op nearby for groceries and essentials.
Further afield, you can enjoy the lively town of Glastonbury itself around 20 minutes drive away. Here you'll find an eclectic collection of artisan shops, cafes, pubs and more. Discover the renowned Hauser & Wirth gallery in Bruton a similar distance away. Bruton is also a foodie hot spot in Somerset where you can dine at the Michelin star Osip or one of the many other highly regarded restaurants. The popular Newt Hotel is also very close by and offers fine dining and a lovely spa.
The historic “smallest city in England”, Wells, is also a short 15-minute drive away. With the 1000-year-old Wells Cathedral and Bishops Palace, historic market square, and abundance of great cafes and pubs, it is well worth a visit. You'll also find open-air markets with all manner of wares.
A little further, you can explore the picturesque village of Sherborne or Frome. Shop for goodies at the famous Frome Market (open every first Sunday of the month) which showcases independent designers, food makers and food producers. Within an hour's drive, you can also reach Stonehenge, Longleat and the Wookey Hole caves. There is so much to do in this special corner of the world!
Getting Around:
Due to the remote nature of rural Somerset, a vehicle is recommended to make the most of your stay here. Private parking is provided for up to 3 vehicles.
If you do travel by train, the nearest station is in Castle Cary around 8 miles or 15 minutes drive away. It's easily rideable for those with bikes and the area is very secure if you would like to keep them on site.
Other Things to Note:
The bed in the single bedroom is on a raised level, so is likely only suitable for children. Adults are more than welcome to use it, but please be aware there is a low, sloping ceiling. The cottage is therefore best suited to a maximum of 6 adults plus 1 child.
The gardener cuts the grass once a week in summer, usually on a Tuesday.
We welcome a maximum of 2 dogs on the condition they are kept off sofas and beds, not left in the property unattended and any dog mess is cleaned up. There is an additional fee of £20/dog.
The BBQ is available for use from April to October.
