To the front of the cottage is a gravelled area with seating, as well as ample roadside parking. The Forge is a marvellous property for a romantic retreat on the outskirts of Bath. Town: Marksbury is a modest village resting within the bustling city of Bath, Somerset. Marksbury was listed in the Domesday book as Mercesberia. The name of the village is thought to come from Old English for ‘fortified place’. Stantonbury Camp is the site of an Iron Age hill fort near Stanton Prior. The church of St Peter dates back to the 12th Century but is mainly from the 15th Century is Grade II listed with many interesting features. Notable residents of Marksbury include Joseph Harding (1805 - 1876) known for being the “Father of Cheddar Cheese”. The village boasts many beautiful public footpaths and walks.
