‘Poppies’ är en nyrenoverad stenstuga belägen på grunden av ägarens fastighet i bevarandeområdet Hinton Blewett. Stugan har utsikt över det öppna landskapet och har genomtänkt restaurering med miljön i åtanke. Det är en enkel promenad upp till bypuben, som är högt rankad av gäster. Sjön Chew Valley ligger 10 minuters bilresa, där du kan njuta av fågelskådning, promenader och fiske. Salt and Malt är en prisbelönt fisk- och chiprestaurang.
Boendet erbjuder två sovrum: ett huvud sovrum med superking-size-säng som kan omvandlas till två enkelsängar på begäran och 1 dubbel. Badrum: med dusch och badkar och toalett. Separat toalett på bottenvåningen. Vardagsrum med golv (och matta), soffa och fåtöljer, har öppen spis och vedeldare och smart TV. Köket (med handbyggda massiva träenheter) / matställe har ett stengolv, elektrisk ugn, kyl / frys och mikrovågsugn. Det finns tvättstuga med tvättmaskin och elektrisk luftare. Utanför finns en grusig innergård med en stenlagd sittgrupp framför stugan, blomsterbäddar och en bänk i hörnet som fångar eftermiddagsolen. Bekvämligheter: parkering för två bilar på gården.

We loved our time at Poppies, the cottage and surrounding area were enchanting. We were time poor but there was plenty for us to enjoy including Bath and Cotswolds and the cottage area. The village pub was awesome, everyone enjoying the chat! Thanks to Judith for sorting out my jacket that I left behind. Very appreciated. Thanks heaps!

The cottage’s restoration is beautiful. One of the days was chilly and blustery and there wasn’t a single draft. I never had to adjust the temperature.I found the king bed to be hard and lumpy and there were cobwebs throughout that could be dusted away. The shower has good pressure and hot water. The pub is a short walk away.

This is a wonderful cottage with everything we needed and a bed so comfortable that my wife wants one just the same. A great location for seeing the area and Judith was the most welcoming host. We would definitely stay here again if we are in the area and recommended the cottage unreservedly.

Poppies is a very beautiful, cosy cottage and has everything you need for a holiday in a holiday home. Judith is very kind and made sure that we felt welcome and comfortable from the very first day. The cottage is in a quiet rural location and Hinton Blewett is a charming village. There are many great places of interest nearby, such as Cheddar Caves, Glastonbury with its impressive abbey ruins, beautiful Bath and Wells with its impressive cathedral.

Goede uitvalsbasis om de omgeving te ontdekken

Een heerlijk huisje om na een dag uit, heerlijk te relaxen. Bij aankomst stond er melk, koffie, thee en een koekje voor ons klaar. Wifi om je plannen uit te werken. En echt alles is in huis. Ook aan het milieu wordt goed gedacht. Heb je hulp nodig, staat Judith klaar om je te voorzien van info. Wij hebben niet het idee dat we al klaar waren om de buurt te ontdekken. Dus wellicht nog een keeetje terug..?

Lovely cottage with a special treat of flycatcher birds nest just outside the door. We were lucky enough to see 3 chicks take their first flights. Judith was a very welcoming host and would recommend.

Lovely cottage in peaceful village

I stayed at Poppies with my sister whilst she was visiting from Dallas. It is a beautiful little cottage in a very quiet peaceful location. Judith is an excellent host, very good communication and a lovely warm welcome when we arrived. The cottage has everything you need and is really comfortable. We both slept really well in the very comfy beds after a day in the fresh air. It was very hot when we were there but with the windows open and such thick stone walls the cottage stayed cool. We enjoyed watching the birds in the nest near the the front door and two rabbits were in the front drive one morning while we ate breakfast. The water pressure was great and so was the hot water so our morning showers were amazing. We visited Bristol, Bath and Wells whilst we were there. Wells was our favourite and well worth the visit. My only stress was the tiny country roads because I’m used to city traffic and wider roads, but there was so little traffic it wasn’t really a problem. I hope to return with my husband one day.

Fantastic holiday

We recived a warm welcome from our host Judith and were delighted with the accommodation. The cottage was just as described, comfy and beautifully equipped. There was so much to do in the local area our particular favourites were a tour of the Bath Soft Cheese Company and a fascinating visit to Shepton Mallet prison!

Home from home

The cottage is just perfect. Great location and it is kept to an amazingly high standard Judith was great with information when requested and also forwarding local amenities. We had an amazing 4 days and the cottage was central to our good time.

Charming, Cozy, Country Cottage

Was our four week home away from home, and we found the cottage to be perfect for an extended stay. Idyllic setting and truly exceptional host. This was a great base to explore Southwest England, and to simply enjoy the peace and quiet of the English countryside.

60th birthday celebration

We came here with our daughter and partner to celebrate my 60th birthday. My brother, his partner and son joined us for the Saturday, first at the excellent 'ring o bells' pub then a buffet lunch at Poppies. Thank you for making my 60th a day (weekend) a time to remember.

Comfy, warm, homely, inviting and restful.

I am a qualified languages teacher, but began my career in broadcasting at the BBC and BFBS. I'm really enjoying my state of semi-retirement which has enabled me to pursue my many interests, not least walking and bird watching. I love living in the Chew Valley which has so much to offer and I look forward to sharing its delights with my guests. While it is situated in beautiful countryside, it is within easy reach of Bristol, Bath and Wells. The former are particularly good for lovers of history, theatre, cinema and art. My two grown-up sons also enjoy coming home to the peace and quiet of the Chew Valley.

Varför värden valde detta boende

I moved to the Chew Valley from London with my family thirty years ago and I have never regretted doing so. Greenway Cottage was an empty shell and Poppies was derelict when we came here. I began work on renovating Poppies in 2011, slowly restoring it and finally finishing furnishing it in 2016. A lot of love and attention to detail has gone into this work, and I hope you will love it as much as I do. I care passionately about the natural world and the environment, so Poppies has been restored with this in mind. It is equipped with solar thermal and photovoltaic panels (discreetly situated on the field facing side of the roof) .Hating is provided by an air source heat pump. Both properties have original circular stone staircases, though the one in Poppies is purely decorative and now serves as a bookshelf. It is an ideal situation: very rural and yet so close to centres of culture and shops! Despite its rural location, it is very accessible, by car at least. Sadly public transport is very limited.

Vad som gör detta boende unikt

The unique benefits are: peace and quiet with lovely views and a network of public footpaths on the doorstep and yet so close to Wells, Bath, Cheddar, Bristol, Glastonbury and many other places of interest. You can walk to the village pub which has great views and serves excellent food.
There are so many interesting places nearby, not least Holt Farm, the home of Yeo Valley, producers of organic dairy products. They have a fabulous garden which is open to visitors on certain days and an amazing workers canteen which is now open to the public for lunch (booking in advance essential) or coffee. Camely Lodge is twenty minutes away on foot and there are two farm shops with restaurants and cafes if you are up for a longer walk! Farrington Farm also offers a host of activities for children. Chew Valley Lake is 5 minutes drive away.
