About Hannah Smith
My husband, Rodney, and myself have worked in the hospitality industry for all of our adult lives. We’ve traveled extensively around the world, both independently and as a family. But at the end of each journey we realize that there is no place like home in the Pacific Northwest. We’ve learned through experience that relationships are most important and we also believe that the customer is always right. We genuinely strive to make our guests feel welcome and so we offer a place where you will feel right at home and immediately comfortable. We pride ourselves on detail. We try to anticipate your every need and want you to feel that our home is your home.
Hannah Smith purchased this Lodge in 2007
Why Hannah Smith chose Sandy
Rodney grew up on 40 acres in the town of Aims, just on the outskirts of Sandy. His love of fishing and hunting drew us back to the area and this home called to us because of the magnificent view (the best in Oregon we think!). Once upon a time a restaurant called 'The Marvel Inn' stood on this property.
What makes this Lodge unique
We fell in love with this home because of the view it provides of Mt. Hood, the Sandy River and miles beyond. People have asked why we live so far out of the metro area and the answer is simply that we get to come home at the end of the day and breath...

Fantastic view. Beds were great.
No complaints. Had a semi informal reunion with high school friends, then headed to s concert in Troutdale. The house was as advertised. Although I couldn’t figure how to get the sauna working, but the hot tub was awesome.
Excellent amenities!!! Excellent view!!! So happy with everything!!!
The accommodations are great and exactly as stated or better.
The view and outdoor accommodations are wonderful.
I really cannot think of anything negative.
I soooo recommend this as your next vacay stay!!!
Unbelievable view!!!! Fun times in the hot tub. Nice layout for entertaining.
Great way to end a three day camp trip down the Dechutes River. A quick trip to Safeway and we had dinner on the table. Nicely equipped kitchen. Unbelievable view off the back deck.
Can not beat this view!
There's no way I can give this place less than 5 stars for the view alone! Spectacular. We had every kind of weather you can imagine (snow being the one exception) and the variety of changes to the gorgeous Sandy River and Mt Hood views was breath taking! My husband even got a gorgeous sunny morning sunrise photo with the valley cloaked in patches of fog.
Our kids loved the hot tub and bunkbeds and toys and games. We have 4 kids, ages 2, 3, 7 and 10. There was even a little swing outside in the side yard of the house. I would point out that young kids especially could not be left alone on the deck as there is a cliff on the other side. Wasn't a problem for our crew but just something worth considering. We never figured out how to get the TV/video games working or they would have loved that too. Kitchen was large and well appointed. Rooms were very comfortable. We honestly could have fit another entire family in this house with us.
We used this location as a jumping off point to access both Portland and Mount Hood, and it was very convenient in that sense. There is a great park in Sandy which our kids loved, and both groceries and restaurants are very close to the house. Also we hiked down to the river via the Sandy River trail, which was walking distance from the house.
Home is showing some rental wear and tear but not any worse than a family resort hotel at a similar price point. Owners are VERY easy to contact and responsive. Would definitely recommend and would stay here again.
The Scenic View Lodge is located next to the Jonsrud Viewpoint. Centrally located to enjoy sites in Portland, Columbia River Gorge & the Mt. Hood National Forest.
