No matter the season, this quiet, secluded location with trees, mountain views, and the sound of Gore Creek, located only 20 feet off the back deck, will fit the bill for your next vacation. You can ski any of eleven Colorado resorts (Vail, Beaver Creek, Copper, Breckenridge, Keystone, A-Basin, Steamboat Springs, Aspen's three mountains, and Ski Cooper) and still drive home for the night to a cozy fire and comfortable king-size beds.
This is a property with only 38 townhomes, many of which are lived in by permanent residents. The covered bus stop for the free Town of Vail Shuttle is only a two-minute level walk from the front door. A three-minute ride gets you to the Cascade ski lift; ride a little longer and get off at Lionshead or the Vail Transportation Center and Vail Village itself, offering numerous quality restaurants, night spots, and incomparable shopping.
If you choose, however, to stay in, you will also be content. This newly remodeled unit boasts a kitchen with granite counter tops, rustic cherry cabinetry, and new appliances. It is furnished down to the wine glasses! The glass-topped dining room table seats six, but there is also a second table in the sunken den which seats four. Turn the gas fireplace on to take the chill off of an early morning or to quickly warm up the home and mood after a day of outside activity. The spacious upstairs front bedroom and creek-side bedroom boast comfortable king-size beds and flat-screen TVs and the middle bedroom has a queen-size bed with TV/VCR/DVD player. The unit has a ladder to the loft above the stairs. It has a queen mattress and desk lamp on a bench. Finally, the den couch is a sleeper sofa which adds to your sleeping options.
In the winter, walk or take the free shuttle to the Safeway or City Market; other seasons, you may choose to bicycle. We are within a couple of minutes from the Vail Recreation Trail, a fun path where walkers, runners, and bikers can enjoy a jaunt into Vail along beautiful Gore Creek or perhaps a ride all the way to Avon or Breckenridge. The summer outdoor pool and year-round enclosed hottub are a one minute walk across the parking lot from the front door.
Rates are lower for this unit due to owner management. Owner management is visible throughout the unit in a friendly, cozy environment, rather than a sterile cut-out cookie. Art work, mirrors, and bathrooms with intricate tile work all point to ownership who also enjoy their visits here!

About Jim and Signe Donaldson
We have been married since 1976. I am a 1974 United States Air Force Academy grad, who, after pilot training, served a total of seven years. I have flew for USAirways/American from 1983 until retirement in 2017. Signe is a 1972 graduate of Baylor University. She taught high school English, drama, speech and debate classes until 1983. We have three sons; one a 2003 USAF Academy grad and infantry major in the Marine Corps with four combat tours (3 Iraq, 1 Afghanistan); one a 2011 UCLA Law School grad and partner in a California law firm; one a 2012 West Point grad and captain in the U.S. Army with one combat tour in Afghanistan.

I have loved the Rockies since I went to school in Colorado. A roommate's parents lived in Vail so I skied there and other ski areas as a cadet. I have skied all over the country and in Europe and have found Vail to be, in my opinion, the finest ski resort . Signe and I loved the charm of the village and surrounding area when we visited Vail together. Finally, we thought it would be a place where our children would always look forward to vacationing with us, no matter the season of the year. It has been true. We have purchased the next-door Unit 16 vrbo 499342 for our future retirement home. We are also renting unit 16.

If you are looking for accomodations for up to 15 people, we also own and rent Unit 16 vrbo 499342 Our townhomes' position on Gore Creek is one of the most charming benefits of this property. The backs of the units have stunning views of the creek. The view and sound of the creek change with every season. The gas fireplace in 15 makes having a fire at any time, effortless, safe and pleasurable. The Unit 16 fireplace is traditional woodburning. The units are comfortable, quiet and very well appointed, requiring little more than your own foodstuffs. Finally, location is an asset. Vail's free shuttle stops 125 level paces from the front door. It is a three-minute ride to the closest ski lift and a 10 minute walk, if you choose, to the Safeway and City Market grocery stores, among other businesses (hardware, gas, fast-food, restaurants, wine/liquor, etc.). The beautiful Vail Rec path close to Gore Creek is just a three-to-four minute walk away!

Great location & value, excellent choice
The location is great, the bus stop is a few steps from the door, and its a 5 minute ride to Lionshead. We rented a van to get to Vail from Denver, but during the week, we only used it once to get groceries for the week. The location is so good that we were able to use the free bus to move around Vail.
The unit was clean when we arrived and stocked with linens and paper goods for our stay.
There are 3 full bedrooms upstairs plus a sleeping loft, all the bedrooms upstairs share the same bathroom, but there's a second full bathroom downstairs. Both bathrooms are well equipped and there was enough hot water for showers. We were a group of 5 staying here for a ski week and this was the perfect choice for our ski trip to Vail. The unit was comfortable, spacious, and very clean.
The living room has a great view of Gore Creek and has a timed gas fireplace which kept us warm, it also has a sofa that turns into a bed in case you need an extra bed.
the kitchen is well equipped and fulfilled our needs perfectly, and the front door is locked with an electronic combination so no one needs to carry keys, everyone can come and go independently and have access to the unit.
Jim & Signe were very responsive & accommodating, super-easy to work with. I'd definitely recommend this place, the price was right on spot, and we would definitely stay here again.

excellent location, modern and comfortable
We absolutely loved this home--location was fantastic and interior was very nice and beds comfortable. We rented a car which was convenient for groceries and restaurants in Eagle and Edwards, but the location on the bus loop was great and we used it every day. We would definitely stay again. Thank you for sharing your experience. The Ptarmigan Townhouse complex is a great location outside of the village. Skiing is but a 2-3 minute free bus ride away and you can use the bus to do so many other things without having to worry about driving and parking. We have guests who stay without a car...but on the other hand, there are some fun dining and night entertainment experiences in the small towns around Vail and Beaver Creek. If you are new to Vail, we can send you our guides to restaurants and maneuvering Vail and Beaver Creek.
Cozy home on Gore Creek!
We stayed here for a long ski weekend. It is a few miles from Vail Village so nice and quiet. The shuttle picked up at end of driveway which was great! Kitchen was well equipped for cooking meals. They thought of everything! Beds were comfy and everything was clean. Loved it and would come again.

Multi-family trip - excellent
We had a group including two couples with three total kids in April (along with five childless friends of ours next door who rented from the same owner), and all had an excellent time. The kids loved playing right outside the back door by the creek, and the townhomes themselves are very well taken care of. We also walked into town with the kids along a beautiful path, which was great - and when they're tired, the local (free) bus home is very convenient and a quick trip.
Thanks for taking the time to submit a review. Corey was our first of two groups of guests that took both of our two Ptarmigan units in April (not July). With the units being right next door and both on Gore Creek, it is a great way for large groups or multiple families to vacation together. Spring skiing is comfortable and this time of year often has sunny days where you can enjoy a walk into town on Gore Creek's rec path. There is possibly snow in the shade and creek flow is just a little higher than winter flow, safe for children to be close to the water's edge. May, June and early July flow is high from snowmelt. The sights and sounds are beautiful but all need to use caution when close to the creek.
All this being said, you just might find a couple feet of powder from a Rocky Mountain spring snowstorm!
Five Stars! We Loved This Property!
This town home is practically on Gore Creek. I enjoyed getting up early and having coffee while the creek ran by just outside the back door.
We had a large group and also rented this owners other property, right next door. It made for easy coordinating and visiting back and forth.
The property has a hot tub house with showers and is great after a long day of activities. We have not stayed here in the summer but the pool is close and looks lovely.
Aside from the views, one of the best things about our stay was the easy access to Vail Village, Lionshead and other areas of Vail Resort. The shuttle owner posted a shuttle bus schedule which runs very regularly and is free. These shuttle buses accommodate skis and snowboards on the outside.
This town home has A LOT of room for relaxing, cooking, eating and sleeping. The bedrooms are quite large and there were plenty of blankets and extra beds for babies and children. The decor is lovely and comfortable.
I can't say enough - the price was right and we will definitely return!

We love Vail and our Ptarmigan location and, now being retired, look forward to spending more time there ourselves! Come visit in beautiful summer or fall and use that pool (or maybe tube Gore Creek when spring runoff subsides). Remember the saying, "People come to Vail for the skiing in the winter but stay because of the beautiful summer and fall!"
Easy access to walking, running and biking on the beautiful Gore Creek Recreational Path. Heading east, this path goes to Cascade, Lionshead, Vail Village, East Vail, over Vail Pass (10,600 ft.), down to Copper Mountain, through Ten Mile Canyon to Frisco and Dillon, finally ending in Breckenridge.
