Smugglers Cottage is a stunning fusion of heritage and modern style. With original wooden beams, exposed brickwork, and wooden floors, the home proudly reflects its 17th-century roots. These timeless features are beautifully complemented by contemporary touches such as Limecrete floors, bare plaster walls, and re-claimed rustic radiators, creating a space that’s both characterful and stylish. Modern comforts like underfloor heating and top end appliances as well as quality mattresses ensure a cosy stay all year round.

Step through the front door into a warm and welcoming living room, complete with a comfy sofa and armchairs, plus a smart TV featuring catch-up Apps like BBC iPlayer and ITVX, plus streaming Apps such as Netflix and Amazon Prime — guests will need to log in with their own profiles.

The open-plan kitchen extention is sleek and contemporary in design and is fully equipped with all modern appliances and essentials, plus there is Nespresso Pixie Carmine coffee machine. At the rear, a dining table for five sits beneath a stunning glass extension with floor-to-ceiling windows, filling the space with natural light. A convenient downstairs toilet is located by the back door.

Step through the glass doors into your own private garden — a peaceful spot with a bistro table and chairs, a perfect place to relax after a day exploring.

Upstairs, the first floor offers two beautifully appointed bedrooms. The master features a luxurious king-size bed, bedside tables, a chest of drawers with mirror, and hanging space. The second bedroom includes a cosy double bed, bedside tables, and a spacious storage unit.

Up a final set of stairs to the top floor, you’ll find a characterful bathroom with exposed brick and cottage-style roof beams, a bathtub, a separate shower cubicle, and toilet. Across the landing is a handy utility room with a washing machine, dryer, iron, and ironing board.

Travelling by road: The M20 and M2 motorways provide easy links from London into Thanet.

Margate train station is the nearest station to the accommodation and is regularly served by South Eastern High Speed services travelling to/from London St Pancras as well as trains from London Victoria. The train from London St Pancras takes 80-90 minutes and a little longer from Victoria, and it’s just 50 minutes from Ashford International station. Once you arrive at the station you can either walk to the accommodation (approx 13 minute - 0.6 miles) or you can grab a taxi or take a local bus.

The National Express runs a national network of coach services. Coaches run from London Victoria to various stops in Thanet and take approximately 2 hours.

Frequent bus services: The Thanet Loop serves Margate, Cliftonville, Broadstairs, Ramsgate and Westwood Cross.

There are many local reasonalbly priced taxi companies serving Thanet.

Smugglers Cottage is a charming and characterful property with unique features that may not suit everyone. We recommend reviewing the photos and description carefully to ensure it’s the right fit for your stay.

The cottage is best suited to adults and older children (10+) or babies in arms. Due to steep stairs, a second-floor bathroom, and a glass panel leading to the garden, it may not be ideal for guests with mobility concerns or very young children. If you’re unsure, feel free to message us before booking — we’re happy to help!

We welcome bookings from guests who are aware of the layout and are comfortable taking responsibility for their party.

Guests should please note that, as a Grade II listed cottage, we’ve preserved many original features—including the windows—which are an important part of the property’s character and charm. Due to its location in the heart of the old town, it can occasionally be lively during the summer months. for light sleepers, we provide earplugs in the bedrooms to help ensure a more restful night.
