Steve and Karen Grotting
About Steve and Karen Grotting
We are married with 4 adult children and 1 grandchild. We live in the western suburbs of the Twin Cities. The cabin has been an easy commute. Our best family time has been spent at this special place. Memories of waterfront fun, fishing, boating, campfires and cabin games have carved a special place in our hearts. As our family grows with spouses, significant others and more grandchildren, we are searching for something bigger but are not yet ready to part with this beautiful gem. VRBO seems like a good fit for now. Hope you enjoy as we have!!
Steve and Karen Grotting purchased this Cabin in 1998
Why Steve and Karen Grotting chose Trego
We fell in love with the area. The hills of Lampson are absolutely beautiful. Silver Lake has a pristine quality that we couldn't find elsewhere. We have enjoyed the family of loons, the nesting bald eagles. The gradual slope of the sandy beach is ideal for swimming and the proximity from cabin to the water is ideal! The surrounding area has everything you need, conveniently located between Hayward, Spooner and Minong. As an added bonus, our cabin neighbors have become like family. We love them!!!

Thanks Karen and Steve for a great stay! We love this area, great ATV trails nearby.
Would like to come back sometime when the weather is nice and the lake is in use!
Beautiful cabin and view - GREAT for kayakers!
My husband and I had a short weekend stay for our 10th anniversary, but enjoyed this cabin and area so much! The cabin is absolutely the cutest and the view out the front - amazing. If you are looking for activities to do nearby this was a great location.
Our first night we made reservations for Pine Brook Farms, which was only about 16 minutes away with such great food! Meat is from just a few miles away, and the spinach artichoke dip was the best we’ve ever had!
The next day I had booked us on the sightseeing train since the Wisconsin Great Northern Railroad is only about 11 minutes away. FYI - they have a Pizza Train that sounded awesome, but books REALLY EARLY. We ended up eating in town at Jessie’s Diner, which had a great taco salad.
The rest of the time we fished as we are big kayak anglers and brought our kayaks. This was awesome staying right on the water, especially water level too since cabins are often built higher off water giving you a steep or longer haul of the kayaks - not this, this is just right there so easy! Being just the two of us, we didn’t have anyone staying in the bungalow, but it was a great spot to keep our fishing stuff. We didn’t know anything about Silver Lake and were very pleasantly surprised. It’s a great size for kayaking and though it might have been because we were during a chilly late September time, but we had the lake completely to ourselves each time. We were able to catch our meal for the evening with a stringer of great 9- to 11-inch crappies and small pike. It was beautiful on the water and we had a blast!
And we ended each night with a fire inside the cabin fireplace since we hit chilly weather. It was so wonderful!!! Then the bed was a great surprise too as it was so comfy and we both slept great each night. And waking up to the view out the front windows is the best!
If you are looking for a really remote and extremely quiet place, this might not be the best for you as there is a cabin right next to and right behind this. There wasn’t anyone staying at those while we were there so it made no difference to us. There is also a snowmobile/atv trail within walking distance - great if you are interested in and we enjoyed for walking our dog, but otherwise has some noise when people use. We absolutely loved our stay and really recommend it, especially if you are looking for activities to do. For us, it was perfect! And the owners were very helpful and great to work with!
Very nice cabin, my wife and I loved the bench at the end of the dock.
Only negative is how close the other cabins are. In the listing it looked much more secluded. However the other cabins were not being used so it wasn’t a problem.
Cute & Cozy!!
Very nice cabin in a great location. Very clean, well maintained, cozy, and a great fireplace. The owners provide everything you would ever need (including an extra tank of propane for the grill!!). Stayed their with my 2 adults sons for the Chequamegon Mountain Bike Festival. We will definitely stay here again next year!!
Wonderful cabin packing everything needed for a great stay into a small space.
Very nice area for relaxation on a beautiful lake. The view from the front deck and even the living room was great for my mom who is hesitant about docks. The bunk house was perfect!
