About this property

Amazing Traditional Irish Cottage In Beautiful Setting

Mountain view House is the perfect place from which to explore the most beautiful parts of Ireland –the Ring of Kerry and the Beara peninsula. It is set in 6 acres of grassland and has stunning views over the mountain ranges of McGilly Cuddy’s Reeks and the Kenmare River. It has its own stream and gardens.
The house itself is cosy and warm, easy to use and just as easy to lock up and go. There is an open fire in the sitting room and a wood burning stove in the kitchen, as well as a quick an efficient central heating system. It is a ideal place to stay in both winter and summer. The Christmas festivities in Kenmare are second to none. The kitchen is fully equipped.
The Gulf Stream on the south west of Ireland ensures a warm climate, ideal for walking, fishing, sailing and even swimming! The beautiful gardens of Derreen House, where there is a famous collection of sub-tropical trees and plants, is well worth a visit.
Mountain View house is in an ideal position for walkers to enjoy the many paths and routes, taking you across the Kerry Way, and over some beautiful mountain ranges. The routes along the coast towards Sneem provide some of the best sea views in Kerry.
Kenmare town itself is as picturesque as any in Ireland. It is famous for its markets, both for livestock and for local, natural products. Along with its award winning restaurants and well known musical pubs, it is an ideal place to have a meal or sample some Guinness of an evening. The many art galleries provide an excellent opportunity to see the work of some very gifted local artists, who capture the landscape in all its forms. Also, The Church of the Holy Cross in Kenmare is a large and impressive building with very beautiful and splendid interiors, whose spire can be seen from all over town.

Within easy distance are the Skelligs, Blarney Castle and the Lakes of Killarney. Not to be missed is the beautiful valley of Gleninchaquin, with its stunning waterfall. This feeds into the chain of freshwater lakes –the lakes of Cloonee, where the views are incredible. For those interested in fishing, it is easy to hire a boat for the day and go out on one of the stunning lakes in the Blackwater valley. Alternatively, for those with artistic leanings, there are glass engraving classes, batik classes and, for those with a passing interest in chocolate, there is a shop in Bonane, which demonstrates exactly how it is made.

There is a riding school for beginners, or the more advanced, which comes highly recommended, called Dromquinna Stables. There is also a sailing club, Star Outdoors Centre, which provides courses in Kayaking canoeing and supervised hillwalking. All of this, within a few minutes from the house. There are also two 18 hole golf courses near Kenmare.

If you are interested in taking a dip in the sea, there is nothing better than popping down to the beautiful Templenoe Pier in the early evening, where you can swim and look across the bay to the stunning views of the Caha mountains.
We hope you have a wonderful stay in our house and enjoy it as much as we do.
PS) We have upgraded both the sofa in
sitting room, plus mattress in main bedroom, to ensure you have a comfortable stay.

Moody Skies and Many Sheep

We totally enjoyed our time at the cottage. It does have its quirks and we appreciated the reviews that cautioned about finding and getting into the cottage. Even with that, we couldn't locate it immediately and were trying to reconcile the difference in instructions we were receiving in the app and in emails. Emily was immediately reachable and helpful. Once we figured out the electricity, which is set up differently than in the States, and the key situation, we settled in and thoroughly enjoyed the shifting clouds on the mountains, the sheep, and the view from the bathroom. Based on a review that said the house was 1km from town, we thought we could walk into Kenmare but that would have been challenging. Great location for exploring the area but not on foot--or at least we couldn't figure that part out. Would happily return.

Quiet and Peaceful

Lovely older house away from the hustle and bustle of Kenmare. Perfect location for exploring the Beara Peninsula. Guests have access to both a washer and dryer.

Lovely home

We really enjoyed staying here. It was tricky finding the house, but following directions will help. The road going in is very narrow, so use caution coming around the curves. The house was charming. There are sheep in the back yard that came up to greet us when we walked to the fence. I'm sure they were hoping for food, but we liked to believe they were just welcoming us. Kenmare is a lovely town and a good location to travel to other locations to visit. Truly enjoyed our stay.

Amazing View

After the beautiful drive up the winding road, we spotted our destination on the left. Once we pushed open the gate and parked, my partner and I sprinted to the back yard. BREATHTAKING! We opened up the house… BREATHTAKING! So much charm. So cozy. So perfect. Per the norm of getting settled into a new place there were some quarks and questions , but Emily was responsive to these and advised that certain issues would be addressed. Don’t expect a shower unless you’re 2.5ft tall. But the BATH feels amazing! Great view from the window. We truly loved this place. If the back outside sensor lights aren’t fixed before your arrival, I recommend moving the outdoor furniture to the left side of the house for star gazing comfort or draping a towel over them both ( temporarily) . They are very obnoxious. Wonderful home. Wonderful Stay.

Affrodable get away

Old farmhouse only 1 km from Kenmare village. House is basic but has most items you would need. I didnt find a hairdryer but did without which was fine. The shower is only suitable for someone about 4 feet tall unless you want a bath. I would suggest a curtain or a plastic shower guard to keep water from getting all over the floor if using the shower. We made do and it wasn't a deal breaker for us. Only other suggestion is a list of recomended restaurants or places of interest for those unfamiliar with the area. We were out most of the day and enjoyed coming back to peace and quiet. Thank you for sharing your home.

Peace and Solitude

This place is a dream, a well lived in home that has everything a couple or a small family needs. We cooked all our own meals and enjoyed splendid displays of wildlife in front of great views of the mountains. Thank you for sharing this place. -D & C

Rustic hideaway

Up a winding, narrow road, in the hills of Kenmare, the house is surrounded by trees. There’s even a river flowing past it. The views are stunning, the local wildlife is amazing (hares, deer, pheasant) and the location is quiet, calming…idyllic. The house itself is old and not in top condition, but the owners are obviously working at improving things to a high standard while in-keeping with its history. Good, modern windows and gas heating… cosy. A fully kitted kitchen, a TV, WiFi, washer & dryer. It’s no palace but it was a great rustic getaway for our family of four. So much space for 2 kids (4 & 2) to enjoy and a short drive to all that Kenmare and surrounds have to offer.

Review of six night stat at mountain view

Location was slightly outside the specified distance in the advert for this property - house was very clean and excellent untensils- however the double bed was very uncomfortable along with the couch which was like sitting on a park bench- the shower had brilliant power but had to kneel to fit under it. Lastly there was a brown cabin/ hut on the property which was quite unnerving and almost creepy as it had no separate entrance to it and no path to it- the windows were open and curtains slightly drawn

Peaceful location with amazing views

Arrived at property with ease using Eircode. The views from this property are amazing. If you are looking for a peaceful retreat then this is your spot. Deer came into the end of the huge garden, this was a real treat for the kids & adults. We brought our disposable barbes & enjoyed outdoor the outdoor setting. Kitchen was well stocked all d mod cons dishwater, washer dryer etc. We lit ready made fire one night while chilling watching one of the plentyful DVD. Nice bathroom, enjoyed a few Radox baths while viewing d mountains. A few mins drive to Kenmare for shops, takeouts etc. Loads to do around area. We were all sad to leave & would love to go back again. Thank you.

Basic but good location, however owner not happy with me or my dogs

The house is located a 5 min drive out of Kenmare up a quite and winding country road. I chose it as it was dog friendly and situated on its own in a 6 acre field, ideal for a non friendly dog! The house was basically furnished, I would say the beds were uncomfortable but fine for a few nights. The bathroom however is in what was a 3rd bedroom, so spacious, however the overhead cupboards were not removed, so to shower, you either need to keep your head bent, or sit in the bath. One amazing thing that happened nightly, was that a herd of deer came into the field each night, incredible. I found the owner Emma to be very responsive to any queries etc, but unfortunately she was not happy with me as one of my dogs did a wee in the house which I hadn't seen to clean up and Emma informed me that it took her cleaner an extra 3 hours to clean the house (seriously?) and because of it she would not have the house being dog friendly again. So I apologise to any dog owners who wanted to stay at the property. I would say that the house fixtures are fittings were pretty basic and could withstand the odd accident, and being dog friendly you have to expect this to happen.

Wonderful

The house is lovely. Rustic is good description. Amazing to see wild deer every evening from the rear of the house. The walk to the town is short if not a bit dangerous. Would recommend wearing hi vis jackets especially walking home of an evening as part of the walk there is no footpath on a main road. Over all it was a beautiful location quiet and in the middle of nature.

Tranquil setting close to buzzing Kenmare

Lovely light-filled and cozy cottage in peaceful setting with deer and rabbits for neighbours. Cottage was very well equipped with plenty of towels, linen, kitchen appliances, Wi-Fi - super facilities for a self-catering property. Lovely patio area where we frequently dined al fresco or just relaxed and took in the scenery. The cottage is only a short distance from Kenmare town which has plenty of dining and take-away options if you don't fancy cooking!

Nature lovers paradise

The property's setting was perfect for us. It's set on the side of a mountain with a beautiful view over the mountains and a field/garden which fills with deer, rabbits and even the occasional fox passing through. The house is basic but very quaint and clean. We enjoyed our stay and our children really enjoyed the nature which surrounds this property.

Our own Mountain Home

We had an amazing time at your lovely, secluded home. Easy, short drive to busy Kenmare. Everything was included, turn key. Towels, pots and pans, microwave, and Washer and Dryer, all very helpful to have while traveling with a large family. We enjoyed our stunning nature and mountain views. We felt like we were on top of the world. We had very warm weather so we did buy a small fan to circulate some air. But otherwise the weather was great and the kids loved exploring and being outside with nature. The deer were our good friends each morning and evening. Kids loved the great selection of movies and we appreciated the fast wifi. I would highly recommend this home away from home. It was our favorite location and vacation rental on our whole trip. It is a great home base for exploring the Ring of Kerry, Ring of Beara, Kenmare, and Killarney.

It was great. Sad to leave.

We had a wonderful stay at Emily's cottage near Kenmare. The home was comfortable, well equiped and excellently situated for our holiday. There are several easy day trips around the Ring of Kerry. It was beautiful to start and end our day at the cottage surrounded by quiet. We saw bunnies, deer and heard birds singing. We were sad to leave.
