Ask a questionAbout
I grew up in Sewanee near Morgan Steep for those familiar with the area. So when we drew up our list of features we desired the most, we knew what we wanted: a gorgeous bluff view with an abundance of rock outcroppings in a wooded setting where we could watch the sunset each night. We also wanted a house that is open and inviting so it brings everyone together. A large screened-in porch and wood burning fireplace were also must-haves. In short, we wanted a place where we can relax, kick back, enjoy nature and spending time with friends and family.
Why chose Monteagle
We wanted a place in the mountains that was easy to get to on the weekends. For people just looking for a get-away weekend in the mountains where you can leave work at 4:00 from Nashville, Birmingham, Atlanta, or Chattanooga and be at the house by 7:00, Sewanee can't be beat. For people with a 'Sewanee connection,' Bairnwick Too is a great place to hang out with your kid or fellow alumns. My father and grandfather were professors at the University of the South and my grandmother routinely opened her house (which is now the Women's Center)to dates, parents, former faculty, and other visitors to the University. So picking Sewanee to have a vacation house was an easy choice.
What makes this House unique
What we love about Sewanee is the variety of things you can do. There is always something going on in Sewanee from concerts, guest lecturers, plays, and sporting events sponsored by the university, to riding trails, mountain biking, golf, and tennis. There are dozens of hiking trails with beautiful wild flowers around Sewanee. The South Cumberland State Park has some of the best trails in the Southeast with great river walks and beautiful vista views. Foster Falls and Fall Creek Falls are spectacular. For the more adventuresome, the area offers excellent rock climbing and caving. Pearl's and High Point(formerly owned by Al Capone) are two of our favorite restaurants.
