About Tanguy Libbrecht

Tanguy Relaxing in Anchorage, wishing he was at his Seward House listening to the seagulls and watching Bald Eagles.

Tanguy Libbrecht purchased this house in 2007

Why Tanguy Libbrecht chose Kenai Peninsula

My family and I really enjoyed the serenity and majestic beauty of resurrection bay as well as the friendly people, fishing and wildlife.

The cottage has an unexplainable, simple charm that makes it difficult to leave. Worries melt away while you enjoy yourself with friends and loved ones. Board games, anyone?

What makes this house unique

Walking distance to everything downtown. Quiet, convenient location in a charming seaside home. Home has a warm, historic feel without being formal.

Charming and very comfortable, perfect location

  • 5 of 5

We very much enjoyed our overnight stay at this charming old house, perfectly located.

We came by train from Anchorage, a scenic ride not to be missed. The (free) shuttle took us to the house, perfectly located to walk to the shops, restaurants and the famous Sea Life Center and the new Library/ Museum.

The house is very well equipped, comfortable beds, large kitchen, and well decorated, prettier than the pictures!

The owner provided us with good recommendations and returned our phone call promptly .

We will come with friends for a fishing trip and explore the area.

Great location!

  • 4 of 5

We really enjoyed the location of this house. We could walk pretty much everywhere. Being able to look out at the water in the morning from the front deck was great! The internet was spotty at times but we were able to do the basics. Everything was well stocked from kitchen to bathrooms. The staircase upstairs is a bit narrow but the is to be expected for the age of the house. It was a very charming and historic house.

Great location in Downtown Seward.

  • 3 of 5

We mostly enjoyed our stay in Seward at the Cottage. The location was perfect. Everything was provided and was clean and tidy. The living room and dining room were spacious and comfortable. The bedrooms and bathrooms, although charming, certainly show their age, and the mattresses on the two queen beds were very poor and should be replaced. We were a bit surprised to find a Post It note on the basement stairs informing us that someone might be coming in and out to do laundry and there were clothes in the dryer when I went to dry our clothes from a kayak trip. I realize things are a bit laid back in Alaska, but that is unacceptable for safety and security.

Not so charming

  • 1 of 5

Not worth the charge per night! Definitely an older property that hasn't been kept up. Both larger beds (1 queen and 1 double) need new mattresses and box springs - when my husband and I sat on them you sink almost to the floor! The living room furniture is old and has holes and is very uncomfortable to sit on. Only two windows that opened had screens (1 downstairs and 1 upstairs) on them and it was hot in the house - so it was hard to cool the house down without letting in bugs. The TV channel selection is very basic, no extra basic (TCM, SPIKE, Syfy etc) or premium (HBO, etc) channels, and the owner provides a DVD player in the living room downstairs with very old titles (5-15 years old - nothing current). Upstairs there is only a VHS player that isn't even hooked up to the TV. The bathroom floor upstairs is warped due to water damage so you must be careful when walking so you don't trip. The unit was supposed to be clean upon arrival but the kitchen had greasy finger prints on the microwave and the bathrooms needed to be better cleaned as we found hair and debris on the sink and flooring. The information sent to us after booking indicated we should contact local keepers to report our arrival and when I called I was told they hadn't worked for the owner for over 2 years and they didn't know why he was still sending out their information. Luckily, the correct house keeper kept a sticky note on the back door indicating she was the one to contact and left her cell number; however, it also indicated that housekeeping will be accessing the basement during the day and you had no way to secure the unit to keep the individual from entering the main house except for a windowed kitchen door with no lock. Additionally, there is one main key pad locking mechanism for the back door and I assume the number hasn't ever been changed since the numbers are wearing off. I had no faith in the security of the property since I had no idea how many locals have stayed or done any work there.

There is a kitchen available for use but you are expected to hand wash your own dishes or you'll be charged a cleaning fee. For the price per night you shouldn't have to do any cleaning whatsoever. I'll stick to a bed and breakfast or a regular hotel next time.
