Wow, What a place. This was the first time for us to visit Hawaii with our young family, and this place is the perfect fit. You clearly thought of everything and your condo is beautiful.
This was probably the most well stocked and well equipped vacation rental we have ever stayed at - laundry detergent in the laundry room and ice maker on the fridge. , and food in the pantry
While the Big Island is always incredible, our recent trip to Mauna Lani was truly one of the best because of our gorgeous accommodations in Jan's Fairway condo. The pictures and descriptions can't capture the quality, ambiance and location of this property. The accommodations are well decorated with attention to detail (pictures, furniture, kitchen amenities, electronics including TV, Music, etc) and you truly feel like you are at a 'home away from home'. Jan helped with the details of our stay and so many great suggestions for the surrounding area including food, beaches and activities. We've been to Mauna Lani many times without our children and the condo proved to be a perfect combination of luxury and location. Truly a paradise made even better by the accommodations and hospitality!

LET US SPOIL YOU IN OUR NEWLY DECORATED HOME IN A HAWAIIAN PARADISE. Porcelain tile floors throughout the downstairs, granite & stainless kitchen stocked with the gourmet chef in mind. We have a Viking gas barbecue on the lanai. Sit on your lovely lanai and look across at the 12th hole on the Mauna Lani golf course.
For our guests who want to REMAIN CONNECTED, there is WI-Fi internet access throughout the house. 3 TVs, including a 55 inch smart tv and Streaming Ne-Flix. We also have a sound bar set-up in our living room so you can bring your favorite music.
WE HAVE THE TOP LOCATION AT THE FAIRWAYS AT MAUNA LANI. From the downstairs lanai look out towards the 12th hole fairway of the Mauna Lani golf course about 75 yards away. Look 200 yards across at the beautiful homes of Puoaia. Listen to birdsong every morning as they call to each other across the lava and perch in the beautiful Heliotrope trees outside our lanai. Best of all, prepare your favorite libation and pupus so you can sit on the lanai toasting to the end of a tropical day while watching the sunset each evening. Perhaps if you are lucky, you will see the green flash.
YOU WON'T ARRIVE TO AN EMPTY CUPBOARD. We cheerfully provide basic staples. You won't arrive and find 1 roll of toilet paper at our house or just a salt and pepper shaker in the guest food cabinet. If you are arriving late, our Property Manager can arrange to have AM breakfast supplies waiting for you. If you are a new visitor to our island, let us be your remote concierge. We collect many suggestions about restaurants and excursions that we are happy to pass on to you.
Our guests have SPECIAL ACCESS TO THE HOMEOWNERS BEACH club that includes a full service restaurant and cabanas along the beach. This is a wonderful snorkeling area for beginners and veteran snorkelers. GOLFERS RECEIVE A GUEST DISCOUNT AT THE WORLD FAMOUS MAUNA LANI COURSES.
Stroll to the world famous Orchid hotel for evening poupus or walk to our nearby shopping center each morning for a morning coffee at our neighborhood market. Everything you need is at your fingertips for a relaxing vacation experience

About Jan Gilman
My father fell in love with Hawaii while working here in the 1960s. It became my parent's very favorite vacation destination. I have wonderful memories of vacationing on the Big Island with my entire family which soon included my own children too. I was grateful to be able to purchase our home away from home in 2006. Now my husband and I can pass on the legacy of family times in Hawaii to our grandchildren. As our guest, you will be provided with the same spirit of Aloha that we have enjoyed in this beautiful area.

You will feel very welcomed in our vacation home. If you are vacationing with your special partner, you will enjoy our large first floor master surrounded by lawn and outsized bathroom. Soak in your own jacuzzi tub or experience our large walk in shower with multiple jets. If you're coming with friends, they will enjoy the privacy of an upstairs location. There's plenty of room for the children too, with a third bedroom furnished with twin bed. If you wish to bring the family, there is all sorts of beach equipment - boogie boards, sand toys, coolers, chairs, umbrellas and beach towels. Everyone will enjoy wi-fi, cable tv with streaming amazon, and a lending library drawer to choose your beach read. You will enjoy the parklike spaciousness between units. The townhouse design avoids neighbors above or the neighbors below and you will never be bothered by noise from the neighbors next door. You will find our unit to have a good deal of privacy as we look across spacious lawn to distant units.

You can choose to have the relaxation of a lifetime in our wonderful home at Fairways or to be busy 24/7. Spend the day with a book on the beach gazing at the Pacific Ocean at our private beach club. Choose from a varied menu of food and drinks at the restuarant on site. OR, make a picnic, pack the cooler, bring the boogie boards, beach toys and hiking shoes and spend the day at the beach snorkeling, playing in the ocean and taking off from the beach to hike the fisherman's trail. Golf at our two beautiful courses and enjoy guest of owner rates. Shop at the Mauna Lani shops, and have dinner at restaurants ranging from Four Season's grill, to Blue Dragon, and Bamboo. Eat at the restaurants right on property such as Tommy Bahama's or Ruth Chris Steak House. Travel far afield. Hike the coast or the cool mountain trails, see the volcano flowing into the sea at night, enjoy a once in a lifetime experience of sunset at the top of 13,000 foot Mauna Lani, or learn about Hawaiian history at the City of Refuge. Once back home, enjoy dinner on our lanai fixed with local food from our farmer's markets and fresh fish markets. Terrific accommodations in a wonderful resort
We have enjoyed several extended stays in this well designed townhome. It is a very well maintained, clean, comfortable, nicely appointed and quiet spot. The owners, Jan and Michael, and the property manager, Larry, are responsive should there be a need. The kitchen is nicely equipped with all you need for as much cooking as you might care to do. The location in The Fairways is quiet and the design of the condo plus the landscaping gives good privacy on both the upper and lower lanai. We especially like that we can keep the windows open and enjoy the fresh Hawaiian air. During our stays in the winter months there is normally no need to close things up to run the air conditioning.
We love our leisurely breakfasts on the lanai. Most days we take advantage of the wonderful, protected Mauna Lani beach for some excellent snorkeling and swimming. Alternatively, the Fairways pool and spa is a 2 minute walk. We stock up on fresh produce and other goodies at the Wednesday and Saturday farmer's markets in nearby Waimea -- an easy 25 minute drive. Grocery items, restaurants, and other shops are conveniently on the Mauna Lani Resort property located just 1/2 mile away.
There is much to do and there are so many areas to explore on the Big Island. We previously stayed both in the Kona area and on the far north of the island, but we've settled on The Fairways at Mauna Lani as the ideal spot. Jan and Michaels' townhome has repeatedly been our 'go to' location.
Nice complex and unit was very clean
However don’t be mislead by a/c the owner has decided for u that the ideal comfort temp in unit will be 76 degrees and this is what it is set at this way the a/c unit only comes on a few minutes a day and the owners save big on energy costs. We had no winds during our stay so the unit never cooled down and was very stuffy usually by 2 in the morning the room temp dropped to 75. If u like your room temp a little cooler you will have to pay extra for it. Make sure u read your rental agreement carefully when dealing with this owner
Jeanette, I am totally shocked by your review. You must remember that you asked our property manager to lower the air to 72F as soon as you arrived. That is lower than our default temperature. You hopefully read that in our owner agreement as it is clearly stated. In respect to you WE TRIED REPEATEDLY TO REACH YOU on your cell phone and our land line in the condo to get your approval for the small extra charge per day. When you didn’t get back to us, we lowered it anyway and let you know.
You also reported that the air ran for only a few minutes per day. The reason it turned off so often is like any programmed system, it reached the desired temperature. We had nothing to do with the system once it was turned down to 72. This is winter in Hawaii and the night temperature is in the 60s.
We always want our guests to be happy, and both our property manager, Larry and us do everything we can to make that happen. HOWEVER THIS IS A FAILURE OF COMMUNICATION.
We are available by phone 24/7 and so is our property manager. We hope all our guests take note of this and always reach out to us with their problems.
A Real Gem
This property is ideally located within the Fairways development at the Mauna Lani Resort. It is a most comfortable, well-appointed unit perfect for a family of four or two couples. Jan and her husband Michael are excellent hosts and their on-grounds manager is most helpful. Amenities include access to pool and the Homeowners Beach-one of the nicest on the Kohala Coast-perfect for beginning to advanced snorkelers, SUP paddle boarding and spending long hours on the beach and in the waters of the sheltered bay. Proximity to the Mauna Lani and Fairmont Orchid hotels provide options for relaxing at a bar or enjoying casual to fine dining.
Having enjoyed many properties on Hawaii and the other islands for over 40 years we have found none to be equally comfortable nor a better value.
Another Incredible Big Island Visit at Fairway Villas!
We've now stayed in Jan and Michael's town five times. We love the property because it delivers on so many fronts. The condo is in beautiful shape with prime appliances including a Viking BBQ and new X large refrigerator and new dishwasher. We love the amenities including the black bottom swimming pool/spa within 50 yard walk and access to the incredible Mauna Lani Beach Club. Add that to discounts at the Mauna Lani golf courses, a nearby shopping center with Tommy Bahamas and Ruth's Chris you can't go wrong. We love the Big Island and being away from crowds - if that sounds good and you like the warmth of a home away from home you can't go wrong with #1703!

Perfect (almost) lazy vacation!
We stayed here for 13 days with our two daughters (9 & 12). The condo is very well kept and comfortable and the kitchen was well stocked for cooking. We made breakfast and dinner almost every day. The pool is just a short walk away and was empty most of the time. Access to the beach club is the best! Perfect for the kids to snorkel for the first time. We didn't do much activities on this trip since we hit most of the sites the last time we were here so we had a perfect (almost) lazy vacation consisting of beach and pool most of the time. The owner (Jan) and the property manager (Larry) were very responsive and great to work with. The reason why it was almost perfect is because of the pesky ant situation in the girls bathroom/bedroom. Larry was super responsive and attentive in trying to remedy the situation but it really needed pest control intervention which was scheduled to happen for after we left. They weren't bothersome just an annoyance and I'm pretty sure Larry already has them taken care of. We would definitely come back and stay at this unit again and would also recommend it.
I am so sorry to hear about the ants. Pest control comes every Thursday to Fairways.
If I had known your distress, I most surely would have taken care of it by buying ant stakes or similar until pest control arrived. There was no need for you to feel uncomfortable on your holiday.
That is the reason that I'm happy to provide my cell phone so that I can always help.

Beautiful golf courses, great snorkeling beach, easy access to groceries, great restaurants, walking paths, fitness classes on the beach. Live theater and concerts. Variety of farmer's markets featuring organic and locally grown produce. Easy access to commercially run excursions. The Big Island is home to an active volcano. There are excursions that provide a chance to witness this dramatic event.
