About James Gardner
We (James and Eileen) live near London, and have two teenage children. We work in the city, but our home is on the edge of the countryside in Hertfordshire. We've always always had a passion for the south west of France, and spent many holidays in the Bordeaux area. Eventually we decided to take the plunge and buy a place here. It's been a lot of work, but a lot of fun too!
James Gardner purchased this Chateau / Country House in 2015
Why James Gardner chose Bourg
We fell in love with the beautiful aspect of the villa, and the way the mature gardens roll down towards the vineyard and the river. We wanted to be close to Bordeaux, for frequent visits to this majestic city, but we also like being deep in proper wine country. The villa also feels part of the local community; it is only ten mins walk from a lively village with restaurants and boutique shops.

Perfect family holiday
Beautiful typical French property. Close to traditional French village/town and local vineyards. Great for large families. Brilliant swimming pool. The play barn was loved by children and adults equally. The grounds are extensive and beautiful with a view to the river Dordogne.
Bourg sur Gironde
Wow! What can I say? The superlatives to describe the villa and area are numerous! My extended family enjoyed a wonderful time in this breathtaking area and stunning, well equipped villa. Thank you James and Eileen for a wonderful experience! Highly recommend a stay in Bourg .
Absolutely the best holiday we have had
As a group of 13 people we enjoyed the house immensely. There was enough room for us all and the outside areas are wonderful for a quiet afternoon drink and relax. Bourg is a great area to explore the surrounds and the village has enough to keep you interested
a week in Bourg
A wonderful week for a family group of 14. Great location, facilities and property. We would be very happy to return. The area was fabulous also, with loads to do and see. Very good communications with the owners.
Wow! Book it. You won't regret it! Everything is just perfect -- the pictures don't really do it justice! The house is fully stocked and the grounds are the best place to relax with a glass of wine. The town is walking distance and has everything you need. I highly recommend the farmer's market on Sunday! James & Karen are extremely helpful and give great advice on local things to do / see! I can't wait to stay here again!
Pleasant stay in a traditional, Bordeaux style maison
Walkable to village bakery and wine co-op store. Easily accomodates a large family or group with grounds available for ball games and badminton
Large eating areas, 3 refrigerators and 2 sets of washers and dryers. Nice house to cook at or bring back market food. Bring your binoculars if you enjoy birds
The house is on the outskirts of Bourg-sur-Gironde, a beautiful mediaeval village port with restaurants, shops, a village market and a good supermarket. Bourg is well worth an explore; it still has stone fortifications installed by the British 800 years ago. Five miles up the road is the fortified citadel town of Blaye, with famous 16th century battlements and a ferry across to the Medoc wine area and the Atlantic beaches.
