Georges Daniel Hirtz was a master turner and editor of the famous almanac "Der hinkende Bote am Rhein" between 1849 and 1891, a very popular publication in Alsace that mixed practical information, stories, and local anecdotes. The building, designed by architect David Falk, was built between 1902 and 1903.
