About Randall Crum

A native of East Tennessee I now live in Savannah, Georgia. For all of the beauty that Savannah has to offer it does not compare to the splendor of the Great Smoky Mountains. Bear Necessities is a beautiful and wonderful place to stay. When we stay at Bear Necessities it is very hard to leave. Most of our guest say the same thing.

Randall Crum purchased this cabin in 2008

Why Randall Crum chose Sevierville

I fell in love with Bear Necessities as soon as I saw it. I told my real estate agent to do the deal immediately, without hesitation and I have had no regrets. This peaceful setting is one that is very hard to leave once you have spent some time there.

What makes this cabin unique

Peacefulness. It is so relaxing. I find it interesting that most of my guest to Bear Necessities rarely ever leave the cabin. It is close enough to the area attractions but once your there it really is hard to leave.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Not bad needs cleaned better

  • 3 of 5

Overall it's a nice cabin but really needs cleaned better. There was pee when you lifted toilet seat so we had to clean that. There was dog hair bad on floor, even dog food on kitchen floor. The couch on one end smelled like dog pee. It's a cute place but needs a good cleaning

We really enjoyed our stay at Bear Necessities! The cabin was very clean and loved sitting on the back porch in the evening with a glass of wine and relaxing! The maintenance man James was super nice and was always available with any questions that we had!!! Super great week! Can't wait to go back!!!

Awesome stay!

  • 5 of 5

Great cabin! First night we arrived there was no running water. Called late at night when we discovered it and they sent someone right over to repair it, could not be repaired without a new part so they offered for us to stay at a hotel and they would reimburse us. Had it fixed by 8:00 am the next morning, very professionally handled. It was a very quite area and I have zero complaints. Great location too, both major cities and hiking areas were all 20 minutes away from the cabin. Would recommend to anyone.

The cabin was acceptable.

  • 2 of 5

The cabin was maintained well. The mountain air was very refreshing in the mornings, which was a big change from the poor air quality we have in Ohio.

But, we were very disappointed in how commercial both Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge has become. The traffic was unbelievable making it difficult to get around. Having the car show in Pigeon Forge made it that much worse.

We understand that the businesses enjoy the vacationers because it puts money in their pockets. But, from the prices, it was evident that business owners where doing all they could to make high profits from vacationers.

The evenings were not peaceful as well, due to a firing range near by or a gun happy neighbor who wanted to target practice right before sunset.

Dollywood was a complete waste of money. I would not recommend that theme park to anyone.

There were a couple of very good restaurants, Wood Fired Grill and the Crockett Breakfast Camp. Otherwise the food in the area was mediocre at best. Other good meals were the ones we bought and cooked ourselves.

We would recommend the cabin to newlyweds and young couples with children. But, we would not recommend Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge or Dollywood to seniors who were wondering what the area is like now, 40 plus years after their honeymoon.

Owner's Response: I am not quite sure why this guest is giving the cabin a 2 star rating when it appears they were happy with the cabin itself. Their displeasure seems to stem from things not being the way they were 40 years ago in the Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg areas. I think it is more than a bit unfair that they have reviewed the area instead of the cabin and I hope that prospective guest will take this into consideration. For the record, I can attest to the fact that the area has indeed changed over the years. It is indeed a tourist area and all of the businesses are out to make as much as they can. That is commerce. What I highly recommend to anyone coming to the area is to explore the national park as much as you can. It is absolutely beautiful and completely free.
