Cottage Description
This children-friendly, beautiful cottage with a newly renovated kitchen and bathrooms offers ample space for your family and friends with numerous sleeping arrangement options. The original Scandinavian log home comprises the first part of the cottage, in pristine condition, exuding old Muskoka charm. The Muskoka room offers a beautiful sunset view overlooking the lake.
The addition of the main house offers an open-concept living/kitchen area, which can be a separate living space or opened up to share with the original log home. The two adjoining parts can accommodate a large family for dining, entertainment, and playing games.
Property Features
The cottage is situated on over 4 acres, with 300 feet of west exposure waterfront, offering plenty of space for kids to play and explore. Bass, sunfish, pike, and lake trout fishing can be enjoyed just off the 10-feet dock and the 20-feet floating dock. With a west exposure, you will enjoy sunshine all day. This property offers exceptional privacy with beautiful varying topography of rock outcroppings, a large sandy beach, and shallow water extending out long enough for kids to wade, play, and swim.
Stand-up paddleboards, canoes, and kayaks are available for peddling along the calm, peaceful, crystal-clear waters of Oxbow Lake. The fire pit by the bench, where Muskoka chairs await, lets you experience cottage life, and all seasons offer a spectacular sunset with clear skies of bright northern stars. Three fantastic decks and flagstone pathways meander throughout, providing space to sit back and relax while gazing across the lake. The decks are equipped with outdoor patio tables and BBQ stoves.
Local Attractions
The cottage is close to Huntsville for daytime trips, world-class golfing at Deerhurst and Grandview, and a short drive to Hidden Valley Resort for hiking, horseback riding, biking, and beach volleyball. It is also near Algonquin Park for long days of hiking and exploring. With Olympia Sports Camp nearby, it's the perfect vacation for couples with children attending the camp.
We are a 2.5-hour drive north of Toronto, located 15 minutes from historical Huntsville and 30 minutes from the gateway to Algonquin Park. Situated in the heart of Muskoka District, you can explore the natural beauty of the area and create memories that will last a lifetime. Activities include hiking, canoeing, kayaking, biking, or simply enjoying the spectacular scenery.
Huntsville offers various dining options, such as Farmer's Daughter, 3 Guys and a Stove, and Chuck's Roadhouse. You can also drive into town for shopping and live theatre. The Lake of Bays Brewing Company in nearby Baysville offers free brewery tours.
COTTAGE ETIQUETTE (COTTAGE RULES)
General Cottage Rules
Family Vacation Only:
• This is a family vacation rental only. According to the Law of The Lake of Bays, NO excessive noise from Monday-Saturday 9 PM-7 AM and on Sunday before noon. Absolutely NO parties, fireworks, outdoor speakers, or outdoor burning from 8 AM-6 PM. Violations may result in a $250 fine or eviction.
Parking:
• The cottage is located at #1 down the hill; do NOT drive into the left-hand neighbor's property. It is advisable to park on the hill unless you have an all-wheel-drive vehicle. Weather conditions can affect the stability of the gravel driveway.
Lake Etiquette:
• Review Oxbow’s ‘Lake Etiquette’.
Pet Policy:
• This cottage is dog-friendly with prior authorization and a fee of $50 per dog. Renters must abide by the DOG policies and rules:
o Keep dogs off furniture and out of bedrooms.
o Clean up dog hair and remove odors before checkout.
o Always pick up after your dog.
o Limit of 2 dogs.
o Keep dogs indoors after dusk to protect them from coyotes.
Smoking, RVs and Speed of boating:
• No smoking inside the cottage.
• RVs are not allowed. Boat trailers require written authorization
• Boating must avoid creating a wake in the narrows of Oxbow Lake (maximum speed of 10 km/h).
Linens and Supplies:
• The cottage provides bed sheets and pillows only.
• Beach towels are not provided.
• A $100 laundry fee will be deducted if you use the provided comforters and beach towels. Bringing your own blankets or sleeping bags is encouraged, as provided comforters may not be sufficient for early summer or fall nights.
• The cottage provides a start-up supply of garbage bags, paper towels, and toilet paper. Bring your own additional supplies.
Garbage and Recycling:
• Do not litter in the water or on land. Avoid bathing or shampooing in the lake.
• Seal garbage to reduce odors and store it indoors until disposal. Dispose of garbage at the Sinclair Transfer Station (1931 Limberlost Rd, Huntsville, ON). Recycling is free; each car can dump 2 bags of garbage every 7 days.
• Transfer Station Business Hours:
o Monday: Closed
o Wednesday: Closed
o Friday: Closed
• Never leave garbage outside at night to avoid attracting bears or coyotes.
• Leave no garbage behind upon checkout to avoid a $30/bag fee.
Water and Septic System:
• The tap water is filtered and UV-treated lake water. Bring your own drinking water if concerned, or fill provided water jugs at Fire Hall #50 (1007 Limberlost Rd, Huntsville, ON).
• Conserve water and use phosphate-free detergents to protect the septic system. Only human waste and toilet paper should be flushed. Avoid driving over the septic tank and drain field.
Boats and Beach:
• Launch your boat at the public boat launch site (1337 West Oxbow Lake Road).
• Clean and store boats upside down on the beach. Hang up paddles and lifejackets in the storage room.
• Maintain a life jacket for each person on board, following the law. Bring personal life jackets for younger kids and babies as the provided ones may not fit.
Safety and Cleanliness:
• Never leave young children unsupervised while swimming.
• Conserve energy by turning off unnecessary lights and electronics.
• Avoid leaving valuables outside overnight to prevent theft or wildlife attraction.
• Clean the beach and property before leaving. Report any damages immediately.
Fire Safety:
• No campfires during the daytime (8 AM-6 PM). Ensure fires are completely extinguished before leaving them unattended. Follow all fire rules and respect Total Fire Bans.
Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detectors:
• Do not tamper with smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. A $50 penalty applies for disabling detectors. Report any missing detectors immediately upon check-in.
General Maintenance:
• Leave the cottage neat and tidy. Return furniture to its original place, ensure all dishes are cleaned, and leave used linens on the beds.
• Ensure all water, kitchen appliances, lights, and electronics are turned off. Lock all doors and windows.
