It was a very nice place; kitchen well equipped and very comfortable great room. Nicely decorated as well with TV’s in every room. The owner was very quick to respond to my messages. We loved the paddle boards and kayaks. The cove is a perfect place to enjoy the water without a lot of traffic. It was our first time at SML and we had a very enjoyable and relaxed time.

This property was amazing. At first the lack of a way to get from upstairs to downstairs inside was weird, but it took only a few hours before that was a massive selling point as we had privacy from my parents who were joining us while still being able to vacation together. The property was wonderfully maintained and the walk to the dock was not as bad as other properties we’ve been to before. The owner was very friendly and present in the chat, making sure everything was going well and our vacation was going off without a hitch. The dogs enjoyed the trip more than even we did and being able to bring them was a godsend. Thanks for allowing us to stay in your home.

SML Huddleston

Great property, house set-up creates space for guests that provide privacy. Well stocked with 2 kitchens. Beautiful setting, dock great for swimming, jet ski and boat! Also paddle boards and kayaks available.

Great location, grounds and house of property were great. Supplies were at the house, grounds were good, great dock. TV picture quality could have been better, but I think that is just cable quality. Great trip and visist!

Great Location

Clean, comfortable, well stocked kitchen and overall great set up. It was a real plus to have washer & dryer on both levels. The ice machine was a treat. Located in a quiet area so it was safe for us to venture out on provided paddle boards and kayaks. My family and I really enjoyed our stay.

Perfectly Positioned Clean House

This is a fantastic house for two families. The upstairs and downstairs are separated and you can only access each level via the outside stairs. The house has two decently well stocked kitchens - great for rental properties! We loved the house - it was great for our little weekend getaway!

Fantastic experience

Our family loved staying here. The house was very clean and accurately described in the listing. Rick was almost immediate with responses and made the whole experience very nice. The kayaks, SUP boards, & canoe were a nice touch. Also, LOVED the ice maker and 2 sets of washer and dryers. We can’t wait to return!

Best stocked VRBO

The house was spotless and had the best stocked kitchen with great pans, dishes and utensils that we have ever had at any Rental place. The owner was very responsive to our questions. While the weather was chilly we still got to enjoy some beautiful hikes at the nearby State Park and got in some boating and fishing. Highly recommend.

Huddleston Stay

This was our second year at this property. We all enjoyed the new dock and ladder that was installed since last summer. Made it much easier for a 70 something to get in and out of the water. Grandkids had a blast again this year jumping off the dock into the water. Great location for the kids to kayak, too. Saw some deer wondering around the road and property.

Peaceful week at the lake

Our family had a great time. We loved the ability to bring our dogs and let them swim and boat with us. The private cove was a great place to lounge, paddle board and swim. The 3 bedrooms upstairs and two downstairs was a nice separation for our mixed age family. We had everything we needed. We loved the ice maker! The boat dock was a nice addition to the smaller floating dock. Communication with the host was nearly instant and appreciated.

Graduation Getaway

Our family visited for our daughter’s graduation from Liberty University Online Academy. It was great home to gather with grandparents to celebrate. The house had everything we needed for cooking and enjoying the lake. The internet allowed me to participate in zoom mtgs when we weren’t otherwise enjoying the views, the lake and wildlife. It was very relaxing and peaceful. Thanks, Rick, for sharing your home with us.

Great summer vacation at the lake

We had a great week at the lake. We loved the beauty of the Virgina countryside and the remote feel of the location. We spent many hours outside using the kayaks and paddle boats provided. Next time we would rent a boat so our kids could go water skiing and tubing. We went on several hikes during our stay, our favorite being Sharp Top Trail at th Peaks of Otter - the panoramic views left us speechless and were worth the strenuous 1.5 mile hike to the summit. We would recommend this lovely cabin for a family vacation. Thanks Rick.

Highly Recommend!

Location was optimal in a little cove, quiet and private with a direct lake view. We spent time with the kids of course swimming, out in kayaks/paddle boards everyday and visited the the local beach at Smith Mountain Lake State Park twice. The main kitchen is fully stacked with any pot, pan or utensil you could think of - no need to bring any of your own! Downstairs storage closet was filled to the brim with board games - Mall Madness was a kid favorite! We even met met and made friends with the neighbors. Host was communicative and quick to respond. Great place to stay :)

The PERFECT Weekend!

We had been planning our wedding at Smith Mountain Manor for months! We had a large bridal party and from over an hour away, so we wanted a close and safe place to get ready at and come back to afterwards. Rick was absolutely amazing! He made sure we had everything we needed, the house is just beautiful, the guys even had a chance to take a stroll out on the canoe before leaving for the venue! Everything was so perfect for our large group and we will definitely be back! So much quality time was spent together and this was the perfect place for that. Thanks so much, Rick!😊

Wow! What a great family vacation we had at your beautiful, quiet home on Smith Mountain Lake. We loved the views of the lake and mountains from the deck and appreciated that you offered us the option to do many water activities. We especially enjoyed going out on the water to watch the sunset! The well-equipped kitchen and large fridge were perfect for our big family meals. Rick’s home was a great space to get everyone together to eat, talk, laugh, play games, and enjoy the water. Thank you for being so responsive, especially to ensure our needs were met during our stay! We hope to be back soon!

Well maintained, clean, and good location

This was first trip to SML and this location provided a peaceful setting with great access to the lake. I didn't realize that there was no stair access between floors inside the house. You have to go outside to access the downstairs. Not a drawback but didn't know this. Perhaps I missed it in the property description. We would stay at this location again.

Family Reunion Stay

The house was just what we needed for our reunion. It was right across the street and next door to all of our relatives. They enjoyed going on the cove in the crafts supplied. Even the dogs got into the fun. It took some getting use to going outside to enter the down stairs rooms but all was ok for the stay. Rick was helpful throughout the process in getting the house rented to making sure the linen service was arranged properly. We had 5-6 people and 2 small dogs stay and all went ok. The area was quiet and friendly to all that were there. We would recommend this house for sure. Thank you Rick for your part in making our reunion a hit.

All I can say is Wow

Not an accurate listing, it included so much more!!!! Multiple kayaks a canoe and even 2 stand up paddle boards! The whole family had numerous ways to enjoy the water off of not 1 but 2 docks! Fishing could be separate from swimming/tanning! The commercial ice machine is something I never knew was missing from my life. The emerald green clear water made you feel like you were in another country and the mountains up against the lake were like Bob Ross come to life! The house was super clean and very spacious with multiple living room options that you can send the teenagers downstairs to be noisy and a large deck, large covered back patio and screened in front porch, so much space! The cornhole set was a hit for our family tournament and all the games were perfect for our game nights. Not far from Mangos the local tourist area but located on the best most scenic and secluded side of the lake. Secluded in a no wake cove like being in a court. Ample parking and wooded space from the neighbors. Nicely decorated with all the kitchen items you could need and then some. Thank you so much for the memories

Aaaahhhh....

We've stayed at SML before but just completed our first summer stay at Mountain View Seclusion. We'll definitely be back--planning already for next year! A big plus for us is the location--at the end of a no-wake cove, down at the quiet end of the lake. Perfect for swimming, floating, relaxing, and using the two paddle boards and canoe provided. The dock gets a nice mix of sun and shade and we were able to tie up the pontoon boat we rented overnight from Mitchell's Marina. Another plus is the house itself--ALL the beds were comfortable, appliances were up to date, and the kitchen has everything you could possible need. (Actually there are 2 kitchens but we mainly used the one upstairs.) We usually bring a couple of sharp knives with us for cooking when we go to a rental but this time they stayed packed! There was plenty of room to accommodate family members ages 6 months to 85, as well as the family dog. We loved that the house is comfortable without being overly fancy or fussy! The only minor disappointment was when we tried to use the grill without success, but we understand a replacement is on the way. Rick couldn't have been nicer or easier to deal with both in answering questions before we booked and then being available by text once we arrived. This one's a winner and we look forward to our return!

No linens!

The property held all ten members of our property very nicely with bed space for everyone. However, the website did not indicate that linens (bed sheets and towels) were NOT provided. Instead of kicking back and relaxing when we arrived, we had to scramble to find towels and sheets before stores and services closed down for the night. We ended up purchasing cheap towels, hand soap, and trash bags at a dollar general about 30 minutes away. When I asked the owners to reimburse us for linen services, they acted like the request was unheard of so we did without bedsheets. You could tell by the condition of the blankets and comforters that we were not the first ones to do this. Had we known linens were not provided up front we would have brought our own. The owners had a second opportunity to let us know linens were not provided when I emailed them about check-in procedures, but failed to let us know then as well. I gave this property 2 stars for the huge inconvenience regarding linens. If linens had been taken care of, I would have given it four stars for lots of room, great lake access, and plenty of kitchen supplies.

The privacy of the cove and the location on the lake made it a perfect fit for our family.

What makes this property unique

Two separate living areas. Not having an interior staircase makes the home much more quite as you can't hear what's going on up or down. The private cove is our private swimming and fishing hole.
