House, 3 Bedrooms + Other (See Description), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 4-7)
My wife and I are both designers. I am an architect specializing in high-end residential projects and my wife is a fashion designer and singer/songwriter who spent years in New York City before settling into country life. We love to travel and are influenced by beauty both local and global. We loved creating this beautiful place and often stay here ourselves. Our objective was to make the place spare, peaceful, warm and inviting. It's great now, and we are continually adding amenities for future visits. If you like good design and the beauty of the outdoors, we think you'll love our place.
Fred purchased this House in 2008
Why Fred chose Valparaiso
Vermillion Farm is located near our house, and we purchased it to preserve the amazing landscape that is all around.
What makes this House unique
We have outfitted the house with all of the modern luxuries plus a great fun mix of vintage pieces. You'll feel a world away from it all. Hike on 60 acres of trails and native wood and prairie, soak in the tub, or tune in the vintage tube radio and kick back and relax. If you need to get out, we're just a short drive into Downtown Valparaiso with great restaurants, or a quick jaunt up to the dunes.

Wonderful weekend getaway
We had an amazing time here for our anniversary weekend away from the city. So grateful that we could bring our pooch and that this home is dog-friendly, although you would never tell by looking at it since it's so beautifully-kept. The pictures almost do not do it justice! I love the decor and everything we needed to cook for 3 days was there. Hosts could not have been kinder (or more patient as we got unexpectedly stuck in traffic).
The property was perfect for meeting up with several friends for a weekend. Great space which was clean, quiet and provided basic necessities. Close to Valparaiso but great property to get away from city life. Would definitely recommend to anyone needing a restful break from the busyness of life.
100 x's better than a hotel while visiting family
the trails are beautiful! what a great bonus, especially if traveling with your dog. farmhouse was very comfortable and every window has a lovely view.
Thanks so much, hope you can return soon!
The property is just as the pictures show and the description does not do justice to this amazing getaway. We and our dogs stayed here for 5 days while needing to do work around our rental property. It was difficult to leave every morning. Cups of coffee on the front porch. Strolling through the paths. Watching our dogs play in the front yard. BBQ'ing the back yard. Our stay was relaxing and amazing. Thank you for allowing us and our dogs to enjoy your amazing home.
Christmas Vacation Dec 27 - Jan 2nd
We stayed here over the Christmas Vacation, and we loved it. The house was comfortable, and the property was beautiful. The pipes were a little noisy but besides that everything else was great. The kitchen was very well stocked with appliances and dishes. There were two bedrooms, but there was a third room that had a bench with a cushion that could be used as a single bed. The living room had two other benches with cushions that could also be used as single beds. There was also a basement with a couch that could be to sleep on if needed. There was also a roll away single bed in the closet by the bathroom. We would stay here again.
Beautiful location. Unique, comfortable house with fabulous grounds.
This was the perfect spot for our family's visit to NW Indiana for Thanksgiving. The house was well-equipped for a small dinner party, and after-dinner games and movies. The beds were super comfortable, and the view from all the bedrooms - and the rest of the house - is spectacular. Fred and Leslie were very responsive, flexible, and helpful.
We will be back!
(PS: there is no cable/satellite TV. Normally that's not an issue for us, but at Thanksgiving, parades and football are a must. We brought a TV and a set of "rabbit ears" and were delighted to find we could not only get the usual/necessary channels, but we also watched several foreign movies on a channel I had never heard of!)
