Since roads in Costa Rica come in all flavors, 4-WD (rental) cars are always a good idea!
The easiest way to get from San Jose's airport to Montezuma is via the short 30 minute SANSA or NatureAir flights to Tambor, then a 30 minute taxi ride to MONTEZUMA.
If you prefer to drive from San José, plan approximately 4 - 5 hours (1.5 hours to Puntarenas, 1.5 hour car-ferry across the Gulf of Nicoya to Paquera, 1 hour to Montezuma).
Also a private van shuttle can be arranged to pick you up in San José.

Grander than the photos can show off!

The house had an east wing and separate west wing for tons of privacy. Much larger than we imagined! We were visited by a howler monkey family on one of the days out by the pool and enjoyed cooking meals together on the large open kitchen. Killer sunrises every morning and very peaceful sounds of birds and monkeys all around. The drive up and down the mountain is a bit rough and definitely should have a 4x4 vehicle but it is worth it for the view and seclusion. Host was very accommodating and helps provide recommendations for activities or services. House staff are readily available to help with cleaning or maintenance issues that may arise. The house is in the jungle so expect to see small house lizards and bugs but they kind of just become part of the house so it’s not a big deal. It sometimes feels like a luxury Glamping experience with the wide open sliding doors and abundant nature surrounds! But with the convenience of all the amenities you want with a house rental. The Master bedroom and Main Area of the house don’t have AC so it can get hot during mid day - but you can cool off in the other bedrooms that have AC or take a dip in the pool. There is a nice breeze to cool down the master bedroom, and portable fans that make it more comfortable. We normally go into town during the hottest hours of the day so it wasn’t an issue. Thank you for a one of a kind vacation experience! It was a pleasure to stay at Lunatica Lounge. :)

A stunning house and a great stay.

We really enjoyed our stay here. The property is unique and Thomas made our stay really worthwhile. He was attentive from day one and nothing seemed too much trouble. We hired Soledad to cook for us for a few days and it was the best good we had in Costa Rica. The pool was great. A couple of “cons” - the driveway needs some repair, the TV server was less than stellar and some of the beds need upgrading. That said, we still had a great visit and really appreciated the house. The design is extremely interesting with unusual features and the decor is first class. The entertaining area is set up extremely well although you do have to be careful to watch out for thieving coatis! We lost a pineapple and bananas them before we realized we had to close the doors if no one was in the living space. Thanks again, Thomas.

Second stay was just as perfect---love this place!

Perfect second stay at the Lunatica lounge!! This was my second time traveling to Costa Rica and staying on this amazing property. I came with my 20 year old son and two friends. The house was perfect and Dave, concierge, and Chris, chef, were absolutely wonderful. We spent our days on adventures all over the Nicoya penninsula and our late afternoons/evenings thoroughly enjoying the house, pool and accommodations. Ralf, the owner, and Dave were quick to respond and absolutely great! I will return to the Lunatica lounge soon!! I highly recommend this stunning and serene property!!

It Doesn't Get Better Than This!!

The Lunatica Lounge experience is phenomenal on all levels!! The property is stunning and although the pictures are incredible, they do not come close to seeing it in person. Everything was exquisite! Jeff was exceptional and was a large part of why our stay was seamless and memorable! He helped prior to our arrival and made all of our plans a reality and effortless. The house is amazing, breathtaking and an experience by itself. We were able to explore the penninsula all day...coming back sweaty, dirty, salty and tired ----and then relax and enjoy the luxury of the Lunatica Lounge planning our next day's adventures. I have already requested to book it for another week next year!

Amazing property and a wonderful experience!

This was a dream property, so modern and luxurious! The views were breath-taking, the home was stunning, and the service provided during our stay: concierge, grounds, and cleaning service was world class! Jeff (concierge) was an incredible surprise and priceless support for us, as this was our first time to Costa Rica. My family has travelled to over 50 countries and we have stayed in many unique and exotic places - we all agree this is one of the best. This is your own private resort and getaway! We will be coming back! We have recommended Lunaticalounge aka Miami Vice to everyone we talk to about Costa Rica. Thank you Ralf and especially to you Jeff - you were amazing!

Wonderful Estate in a Secluded Location!

This is truly a fantastic estate. I call it that because it's bigger than a regular home. It's basically two homes that are connected by a pool. You can even swim up to your room. With wonderful accents and amenities throughout, this home is sure not to disappoint!

Slice of paradise!

This home is above and beyond luxury. A group of friends stayed in this home for a week, and we made full use of the space. The sprawling common areas allowed us to stretch out and enjoy the amazing views from every room. The personality of the house really stands out with unique light fixtures and innovative shower concepts. I would recommend it to my friends!

Beautiful getaway with incredible views

This property was gorgeous and perfectly outfitted with everything we needed for our time there. We truly enjoyed our time on the deck and pool and so look forward to coming back and visiting again. All 4 couples on our trip had fantastic private spaces with plenty of space for evening entertaining and day time relaxing.

Enjoy the top of Montezuma

This place was fun, beautiful and served all of our needs. The view is second to none and the amenities are as well. The journey into town is quite a trek on foot so I highly recommend renting a car. It will also give you more freedom for the amazing jungle excursions that are within an hours drive. The restaurants in the area are also very good. We especially enjoyed Artistas and Clandestinas.

Lovely home, cool town

We were a family of five (children 10-16) staying there for tree weeks over Christmas in 2014. The place is superb for a family; lots of space, internet, swimming pool and monkeys and other animals hanging around. We didn´t use the cable-TV facilities once. Cleaner and gardener/maintenance are very friendly and keep out of the way. Owner´s local rep was a British chap living in the next village; very nice and service oriented. Same goes for hired chef we hired about every second day. She was very sweet and family friendly. Food was good and healthy. It is possible to hire high-end chefs too, be we chose restaurants for those occasions. There is a 24-hr guard with dog located at the entrance of the estate. We didn´t feel it was needed, but better safe than sorry as the house does not have any close neighbours. We could have stayed at the house for the whole holiday, it is that nice. But if you want to get around, even for shopping, you need to hire a car (and try getting something which likes dirt roads). It is a short drive down to Montezuma and surrounding beaches and activities (surfing mostly). In Montezuma there are many good restaurants for breakfast and dinner. We loved the place and the town. The children keep asking us to go back and one day we will!

My wife and I spent a week here in early 2016. We both work in design, and she comes from a family of architects... I don't know if that makes us any more qualified than your average person to judge how liveable a space is but I will say that your place is very cool and very impressive. I've made it my little hobby these past years tracking architecturally interesting spaces around the world where we can go on vacation, and we've stayed in some pretty cool spots across Spain, Germany, Scandinavia... of all those, Lunatica is my favorite by far. It's a really special place and some of the details are just incredibly smart and well picked. Also, Belen and the staff were great. For fans of white minimalism, the house is an exciting and audacious execution of the style. The views, especially from the pool, are sweeping, ambitious, exciting. The interior spaces are grand and high, featuring beautifully executed geometric designs. What makes the place special though is that design never overwhelms the fact it must become a home, a nice place to be. The texture of the materials is tactile and nice to the touch, the spaces are playful and inviting, the use of light is well thought out and makes the everyday experience of being there easy and pleasurable. Massive congratulations to the architect, it's a very special place, we're already planning a return visit

Oh my, this place is P-A-R-A-D-I-S-E! I don’t think there are words to describe the glory of this home. Certainly the pictures are nice but you have to experience it to know how fabulous Lunatica Lounge is. When greeted by Belen, Giovanni and Sucretia you know from the start anything you need, if available, will be there soon.. Need some quality beef? Belen is on it. Want a red snapper caught that morning but don’t want to go get it at dawn – Belen is on it. Dinner reservations, ideas for activities? All was readily available. Fresh chocolate croissants with breakfast, Giovanni is happy to go pick them up; clothes cleaned, Sucretia does it effortlessly so you have no idea it is being done. Our family was extremely comfortable, sated and we spent a week luxuriating at this classy and casual villa. WI-fi worked flawlessly. Music on ‘air’ devices worked flawlessly. The A/C, pool, and kitchen worked flawlessly. The view is phenomenal. The areas for massage, yoga, reading and relaxing were all private when needed, cozy when wanted and with a view we have never before experienced. If I had one complaint, it was at some point we had to leave and that was a drag. I have rented places all over the world, none have gone as well and exceeded my expectations as Ralf has in handling our reservation, delivering a luxurious vacation rental, staffed appropriately! Thanks, we hope to be back!!

SUPERB

Superb house in a superb setting. Lunaticalounge is elegant and chill at the same time. Gorgeous inside and out. We've rented villas all over the world and can say definitively that this lovely spot ranks among the highest. Not to mention the superb infinity pool. If you're heading for Nicoya - this is THE place to go. It's close to Montezuma's funky center but when you cross the ravine and head up the hill, you feel a million miles away. Lovely cove beaches lure you down to the water, but the house pulls you back up. PERFECT vacation.

Unmatched experience !

We are experienced Costa Rican travelers and have been to Montezuma probably a half dozen times over the years. We love the funky town, great restaurants and amazing beaches. Upon arriving to Luna Tica Lounge, our group was so amazed with the property, setting and views that we actually decided to trim back our plans and just spend as much time as could at the villa. The property has so many design details and clever touches that you'd think you entered the featured property at an architectural expo. At the same time, the breezes, views and privacy were so impressive and everyone in our commented that the place made our Montezuma experience the best yet. Highly recommendable rental!

Paradise!

Our stay at Lunatica Lounge for a week in May was paradise. The location of the house is private and the view is amazing. The house has movable glass doors which allow you to feel like you are bringing the outside inside. We loved all the different showers, we tried a different one each day. I love to cook, the kitchen allowed me to prepare and serve great meals, wait to you see the house at night. The lights in the house are whimsical and the pool light change colors. We saw lots of wildlife on the property- howler and whiteface monkeys, iguanas, many birds and butterflies, We enjoyed the town of montezuma, We had a great dinner on the beach one night. Make sure to hike to the waterfalls and go swimming on montezuma beach. Since we had rented a SUV we also explored some of the other towns nearby. The staff, including Billy and Lisavette were very helpful. This is the second property that we rented from Ralf, the owner. He was great to work with. We would highly recommend this property.

Absolutely amazing!

My husband and I just spent a week at Lunatica Lounge to celebrate our 10 year anniversary. I really can't say enough good things about this house. It is just as beautiful and amazing as the pictures and the views are even better. The location was great and the service was equally wonderful. We were greeted by a concierge to show us to the house and do a full walk through. In addition, they helped my husband in the planning process (the trip was a surprise to me). They made some fabulous recommendations to include dinner being prepared for us at the house (some of the best food I've ever had) and massages one morning. They also gave us the "lay of the land" and gave us restaurant and excursion tips. It was an amazing experience and would recommend this house to anyone. We are already planning a trip back with a group of friends!

A magical experience!

We just returned from a wonderful week at Luniteca Lounge. My only regret is we didnt take a second week! The house is at least as beautiful as the photos; very dramatic and magical. You feel like you are vacationing on a movie set! More importantly, it was also fully equipped for family living and impeccably clean. The staff was lovely; helpful and incredibly pleasant. You got the sense they were personally invested in making your experience the best. We took full advantage of Lisavette's concierge services- she helped with everything from massage therapist to yoga teacher to private cook, etc. A word on access. The road up to the house is rough. Definitely get an suv. We rented ATVs for the week too, which were fun and useful. Montezuma is a cool and funky town, with lovely beaches. Do the waterfall hikes for sure. Definitely eat at the restaurants they recommend in the guest book. All were great! Also take a ride to the beach at Santa Teresa; the town is not charming like Montezuma but the surf is extraordinary. We will definitely be back!

More Amazing Than The Pictures

Travel for me these days means renting beautiful houses around the world. I do this a few times a year and, by far, Lunatica Lounge is the most beautiful that I have come across. The pictures reflect the stunning architecture but it doesn't show how at peace the grounds and the surrounding area will make you feel. It doesn't show the wide variety of wild life that you might catch a glimpse of as you sit and look out at the rain forest. I highly recommend having Chef James prepare his amazing gourmet meals. The managers, Lisavette and Billy were more than helpful in making sure that we completely enjoyed our stay. This was the perfect vacation! The only way I was able to come to grips with leaving this wonderful place was to plan a return visit as soon as possible.

Great house in an ecellent location

Paradise

LUNATICAlounge is an amazing vacation rental. Set in beautiful Costa Rica, with the jungle all around. Monkeys visiting at 4:00 pm every day. Iguanas walking around all over. Sunrises that won't allow anyone to "wake up on the wrong side of bed". Add the beautiful bird sounds and espresso to those sunrises for the ingredients of a wonderful day. The house, the pool, and the jungle setting is absolutely lovely and rejuvenating. It's in a great location for exploring as well. You're 5 minutes from the Butterfly Gardens, where some waterfalls are. You're only 10 minutes from Montezuma and 30 minutes from Mal Pais and Santa Theresa. We had a wonderful time, thank you.
