About Dennis Fransen
Hello! Thanks for taking a look at my properties! I'm an avid traveler, and a self-employed entrepreneur. My wife and I call the Big Island of Hawaii home for half the year, and the other time we travel between Montana, or wherever our heart desires. We enjoy spending time with our family and friends, especially when sharing a beautiful Hawaiian sunset! We have 5 properties on the Big Island and we're seasoned hosts - having done this over a decade. Our property numbers are: 11826, 26201, 210469, 206890, and 848068. Hope you choose to stay with us!
Dennis Fransen purchased this Townhome in 2005
Why Dennis Fransen chose Puako
I wanted to be in a 5 star resort area. This is the best location as I can walk 7 minutes and I am at the beach or at the Fairmont Orchid. Or I can walk to fine restaurants, shops and golfing.

My wife and I come to Hawaii every year and this was a fantastic stay. Very clean and Dennis is very accommodating. Definitely recommend staying here!
Bait and switch, that is what we felt happened to us in our dealing with the owner of this property. Because of the reviews, the location and the pictures in the listing, we signed up for this property, building 21 unit 2103, on June 20, 2019. Breach of contract in that we did not get the unit signed for. An email on 2/6/20 contained a change of location from building 21 to building 3 which we did not get to read until the day before departure and did not notice that they had made the change. There was no discussion of nor agreement to this change on our part. It wasn't until we drove through the gate that we realized that a change had been made. The new building had no listing that we could find and therefore no reviews and pictures and not the location we paid for. From there things went downhill. We called the owner, asking for an explanation. He then informed us that the other unit was occupied. Double booked. He assured us that the unit we were asked to move into was an upgrade over the original. We protested. But, based on his assurances that this was the case and the fact that he could not show us inside the other unit because it was occupied, we moved in. He had offered to move us to unit 2103 the next day but we elected to accept the change. Little did me know. There were problems from the start which kept popping up throughout our stay. Lights that were out or missing, poorly equipped kitchen, a defective kitchen faucet, clutter in closets from spare TVs, ironing boards, beddding and more. Sinks that a plumber had to clear to drain properly (two). A toilet that would not flush properly and two toilets that ran continuously (also fixed by a plumber) and much more. We have 30 pictures of these deficiencies. The crowning blow came when we picked up guest at the airport who were to stay with us for a week. Upon returning to the unit, we found ourselves locked out due to a failure in the front door latch and locking mechanism. A taped door latch first noted and mentioned to the owner upon our arrival had finally failed. The owner tracked down a locksmith to enable access. Upon entry our guest next had to deal with the sink and toilet problem. Most embarassing to us. This was an experience that one should not have to deal with while on vacation. Towards the end of our stay the owner became unresponsive to our calls. Needless to say, this owner let us down. It became a 28 day vacation under a dark cloud. Unfortunate
I rarely ever scold a customer but if you read all my other 65 reviews you will see that these people lack integrity and credibility. First, They didn't stay in listing 26201 as they clearly state in their review. And in fact they were fully aware that they were staying in another unit and AGREED to stay in the other unit as it was on a golf course had a premium location. They never rented or stayed in unit 2103 as noted in the review so they shouldn't be able to review a unit they didn't stay in. 95% of there review is inaccurate. They did get locked out of the other unit they stayed in but the manager of the other property got a lock out service and had them in the unit within 75 minutes and as per their text "they were quite happy with the situation" they were having drinks at the bar. Also the other unit had a few very minor problems a few light bulbs went out and were fixed immediately-who can time when a light bulb might go out! And the plumbing issue happened at the very end of their stay and the sink was clogged with the tenants hair and was fixed immediately again this didn't occur in listing 26201. Three days before they were to check out of the other non vrbo unit( again NOT listing 26201) they called and asked for $1000 or they would write a bad review. Shawn explained to them why would they ask for this now when they agreed to take the other unit. There was absolutely NO BAIT and SWITCH as they say.....they chose to stay in the unit they stayed in and were absolutely given the choice to stay in unit 2103 but elected not too. They aren't being truthful
Great location, several minor issues
Fabulous location. Some glitches added up: shower and sinks quite unclean upon arrival, hot water didn’t work for one bathroom sink, broken lamp, broken toaster, BBQ ran out of gas and no replacement available. Bed is comfortable but mattress has giant ‘lump’ in center. Property owner very responsive but required three separate visits to correct issues. On the last visit, the thermostat was raised without notifying us (we wouldn’t have minded, were surprised no notification given).
The condo is quiet, well located, and quite enjoyable. Pool area is close by and wonderful. Would be nice to have more info in condo such as property maps etc. Kitchen has plenty of usual and needed supplies. Lanai and upper master lanai are fabulous.
Thanks for your review, We were happy to hear the small glitches didn’t stop you from enjoying the condo. We do want to let you know that our intent is always to make our guests pleased with their stay. That’s why when you reported the minor glitches I followed up immediately and resolved them within a few hours! Specifically re propane we immediately brought a new tank over! Also our cleaners are excellent and most our guests compliment our cleaners.
We want to assure you that we did not go in and change the AC cooling temperature our new AC system (NEST) is set up to default to a higher setting if the unit is vacant for several hours, this is a energy savings system. For the general public please review all of our 64 reviews for a more accurate report!! Thank you
Can't wait to come back!
If you're thinking about staying at one of Dennis' properties don't second guess yourself - just do it! This was my family's second time staying in Mauna Lani. We thought the first experience was amazing, but this trip was even better. Dennis is kind and professional and ensured that everything was ready for us before our vacation (including high chairs and pack n plays for our little ones). The house had every amenity one might need, but also had beach toys, boogie boards and snorkel gear available for us.
The pool/hot tub area is ideal for play and relaxation. Shopping and restaurants are walking distance in Mauna Lani (although we recommend buying groceries at Waikoloa Village as it's more affordable, short 12 minute drive)
The Beach Club is the icing on this proverbial cake. We spent most of our days at the gated beach enjoying the sun with our kids. If you're hungry or thirst the beach club has a full restaurant and bar at your disposal; this is where the tropical experience gets truly magical. The beach itself is calm, which is perfect for young children and relaxing activities like snorkeling and paddle boarding. If you want access to a public beach for better boogie boarding Hapuna is a 7 minute drive north, but you'll need to be a fairly competent swimmer.
Again, this was our second time staying at Mauna Lani and at one of Dennis' properties. Can't wait to plan our third trip. Time to book yours...
Comfortable and convenient
Great accommodations with all the amenities of home. Best of all is the location which gives you access to the Beach club and the Fairmont Orchid. Owner takes the extra effort to make sure your stay goes smoothly.
This is a beautiful property, finely appointed with Hawaiian décor, tucked into a peaceful and serene location. It is located on 2 levels and has 2 large bedrooms (plus a den!), a fully equipped gourmet kitchen, washer and dryer, and a peaceful lanai with a Viking BBQ to grill up that fresh catch! This luxury residence property is located directly in-between two world-class resorts: the Mauna Lani and the Fairmont Orchid. Each of these resorts is perched on one of the most beautiful beaches in the world: The Mauna Lani Beach, replete with white sand, clear blue waters, and the best weather Mother Nature can off.
