Overview

About the property

Studio, 1 Bath (Sleeps 3)

A classy hideaway in the heart of downtown Santa Barbara's entertainment district with shopping, music, dance and excellent restaurants just steps away. The apartment is one block from State St., 2 blocks from the 'Funk Zone' and four blocks up from the beach. This artist designed studio apartment is small but beautiful. The apartment has exclusive use of the front porch of a lovely craftsman style house on a charmingly landscaped, fully enclosed private property in the center of the entertainment district . The elegantly designed corner bed couch is unusual. A drawer pulls out to convert it to a really comfortable queen size bed with tempurpedic topper. We can add an extra single bed-height blowup bed if needed. There is HDTV, WIFI, washer/dryer and gated private off street parking. BBQ on your porch, eat fresh fruit from the fruit trees and use the free bicycles for car free, stress free enjoyment. Relax and feel pampered in this thoughtfully re-designed and well loved home. This is one of three apartments in an old home so please understand that this is not a good choice for loud late night partying. If you would like to check out the other two (one bedroom) apartments, they are Mama Dux and Papa Dux.

About Laura Wildman Manager for Inga

Laura: I take care of The 3DUX and our guests on behalf of my cousin, Inga Frick. Inga grew up in the house with her mother and grandparents. Her grandfather was known to the extended family as Papa Duck. The DUX are named in his honor.

Laura Wildman Manager for Inga purchased this studio in 1993

Why Laura Wildman Manager for Inga chose Santa Barbara

Our family were renters in the house for 40 years before we were able to buy it in 1993. My grandmother and grandfather ran a washing machine repair business in the house. I grew up (at least partly) in the house.

What makes this studio unique

A beautiful home in a convenient location run by good people.

Location and charm in Santa Barbara

  • 5 of 5

This luxuriously decorated, impeccably clean, and thoroughly comfortable studio was a perfect place to spend five days back in Santa Barbara, my home for 30 years, until I moved away six years ago. Located just one block from State Street, with its convenient electric trolley service, shops, restaurants and just five blocks from the beach and Stearn's Wharf, this apartment is great for enjoying all that SB has to offer. Off-street parking, a very pleasant and surprisingly private porch, and bicycles are welcome amenities. Laura emailed me to let me know that the city planned an electic service outage one night and offered an extra flashlight or whatever else I felt I needed. It was not an inconvenience at all since I slept through the outage! She checked the next morning to be sure that all was well. I highly recommend this studio, especially as an alternative to similarly priced hotel rooms! Great location, thoughtful service, excellent value. Five stars!

Perfect for our small family

  • 5 of 5

Baby Dux was perfect for our small family. We figured we'd be out and about for most of our stay, so we weren't looking for a place that was large and impersonal. Baby Dux had all the amenities (and more!) we needed for a comfortable stay. A fantastic perk is that there are several breakfast (and dining in general) locations within a couple of blocks.

Charming, Cozy, Quaint & Adorable - <3 the Baby Dux!

  • 5 of 5

I had the pleasure of staying at the Baby Dux in early March! Santa Barbara is a favorite getaway spot for me, and the colorful, boho style of this adorable space really appealed to me when I decided to inquire/book it. So glad I decided on the Dux family! I was absolutely thrilled with the space, location, amenities and comfort of this charming little home! Everything I needed (and more!) was provided; a nicely stocked kitchen, washer and dryer, plenty of bedding and linens and almost all of the comforts of home! There were materials in a booklet that Laura and Inga had gathered/created referencing popular attractions and eateries, as well as tips and rules for the property. Nothing was left to question, and everything I needed to know was explained in this handy book. There were so many little special details (even down to the bowl of chocolates I discovered upon my arrival!) that I can't possibly name everything, but I will say that the hard work, attention to detail and the care that Laura and Inga have given to the Baby Dux speaks for itself and the way they care for their guests. I was within walking distance of everything that I wanted to see and do for this trip. My stay was quiet, I had the pleasure of meeting both of my "neighbors" during my stay - lovely people - so all-around this was a wonderful stay! One Note: This is a small space, perfect/comfortable for one person or a couple, however, not ideal for more than two people, larger pets or the disabled, so please be mindful of that before booking (check out the Mama Dux and Papa Dux though!) Lastly, the communication was impeccable from start to finish. Had an amazing experience at the Baby Dux, and I will be back again soon! Thank you Laura and Inga for all of your hard work and dedication to this amazing property and to your guests! Hope to see you again soon! :)

Small but cozy and adorable

  • 5 of 5

The house was adorable! Laura sent very detailed, helpful instructions and always responded very quickly no matter the mode of communication. There is a book inside with activities to do in Santa Barbara and menus from restaurants that we made sure to check out. It was a great stay!
