Come visit our our area's premier vacation Log Home property built in the winter of 2009! EVERYTHING INSIDE IS NEW AND IN PERFECT WORKING CONDITION!!!
Come get away from it all while maintaining close proximity to urban amenities. Our chalet is only one of two, in a gated and secluded 43 acre property of pristine woods, creeks and civil war era trails. Wide-eyed deer, wild turkeys, calling birds, turtles, butterflies and all sorts of critters roam free in our natural paradise.
We are next to the lazy Dan River, well known for canoeing, tubing, kayaking and swimming, in the quaint little town of Danbury, population 108, located between the Post Office, the Fire Department and across from a 19th century historic church so tiny and charming that weddings and baptisms have to limit guests due to its small capacity.
The Retreat at Hanging Rock, in whose property we have chosen to build our beautiful cabin, takes its name from the popular Hanging Rock State Park, home to 7,000 acres of unspoiled nature, including a 13 acre lake with a sandy beach, five waterfalls and hundreds of nature trails. The main entrance to the park is within an easy bike ride from the cabin or a five minute drive. Hanging Rock was recognized by USA Today as one of the top 20 state parks in the Nation.
Apart from being a stone's throw away from a pastry shop, a diner, coffee shop, art gallery, live entertainment, general store, gas station, we are also within walking distance from the Public Library, a Bank and a Hospital should an emergency arise.
We are about 3 miles from Historic Priddy's General Store est. 1888 a family owned and operated business that is one of the oldest in the state of North Carolina. It's like taking a step back in time.
Just a ten minute drive from the closest Food Lion supermarket, Movie Rental Store, CVS pharmacy and a treasure trove of antiques stores in the laid-back town of Walnut Cove, the cabin is also a half hour away from the historic city of Winston-Salem, with its original Old Salem quarters dating back to the birth of our nation. Opera Halls, Museums, Universities, Fine Dining, Malls and Movie Theaters can all be found here. Another historic local attraction cam also be found less than an hour away in the back-in-time town of Mt. Airy, inspiration for the town of Mayberry, fictional home of the Andy Griffith Show TV series.
A forty-five minute drive in the direction of the Yadkin Valley will take the visitor straight into wine country. Rivaling the Napa region of the West Coast, North Carolina's emerging wine regions and spectacular vineyards, with tasting rooms and tours, are producing award winning wines that can easily be paired with the finest gourmet meal.
Fly into Greensboro International Airport and arrive at the cabin in less than an hour. The trip from Charlotte or Raleigh Airports will take less than two hours.
Preferable is to drive through the beautiful Appalachian Mountains and arrive via the world famous Blue Ridge Parkway.

About Tom and Mercedes Martinez
Hi there, my name is Tom, along with my wife Mercedes, we own a real state company which invests in Florida and North Carolina, two of our favorite places. We truly love the Triad area, specially the charming town of Danbury, which has embraced us as our own family and where we have built our second home. When we first came to Danbury, we fell in love with its natural surroundings, its friendly folks and the overwhelming feeling of community and wholesomeness reminiscent of a bygone era.
Tom and Mercedes Martinez purchased this House in 2009
Why Tom and Mercedes Martinez chose Danbury
We bought this property simply because we fell in love with the area, its unspoiled beauty and its proximity to the Hanging Rock State Park, the Dan River and the perfectly manicured vineyards that are producing spectacularly fine wines. These and all the amenities of modern day living make our Cedar Log Home a perfect place to spend a week or even a month!
What makes this House unique
The cabin sits nestled within a 43 acre private wooded area. On the property itself you will enjoy making home cooked meals, toasting s'mores in the fireplace, watching the star studded nights and waking to dew kissed mornings. Hiking the property through its own trails, creeks and crossing over to the Dan River is a calming and healthy exercise. Taking a five minute trip to the Hanging Rock State Park, exploring its nature trails, sandy beach and waterfalls also make for an adventurous commune with nature. Excursions to Winston Salem, Mount Airy, Dobson, Sparta, Elkin, Pilot Mountain, Walnut Cove and all the wineries in the acclaimed Yadkin Valley, will add even more spice to the trip should the visitor begin to feel cabin fever.

Excellent Location and Views
Our family spent a weekend at the cabin and loved the location near Hanging Rock State Park. It is a short, 10 minute drive to the park's visitor's center and access to several hikes, as well as the lake. The cabin sits on a hill with expansive views of the countryside and is also close to several nearby restaurants. We enjoyed sitting on the large deck, taking in a full moon and the stars at night. The cabin has everything you might need and is very comfortable with 3 bedrooms and a large, open floor plan that is great for visiting with friends and family.
Terrific Weekend in a Fabulous House, Great Views, and more!
We had the best weekend in a very nice cabin. The cabin itself was super clean with all the amenities we needed - including a professional host who walked up the mountain to shovel the snow off the porches and steps! You can't ask for better service! The views from this cabin are so wonderful that you can sit and look out the floor-to-ceiling windows and do nothing but enjoy the view and relax! We were lucky enough to get a lot of snow which made it more quaint and our kids had the best hills to sled down. We chose this cabin because it was near a wedding venue we were attending - but we would definitely go back again just to enjoy all the cabin and its surrounding area has to offer. Beats a hotel room or resort hands down - and there won't be a host like Jane to help take care of you either! Great weekend for us!
Charming, relaxing and beautiful cabin
We held a weekend board retreat for our non profit board members and this proved to be an amazing location. Secluded enough to spend hours on strategic planning and goal setting, but close enough to grab a bite to eat or pick up necessities. The beautiful views from the deck were a great back drop and perfect location for taking a break. The large windows filled the cabin with sunshine. Great location, I hope to return again in the future.
Cute town, enjoyed our stay
Very close to Hanging Rock and the town itself was charming.
No issues as mentioned in older reviews with the coffee maker. There were a lot of lady bugs =)
Nice place to stay with plenty of room.
Good location in Danbury. Convenient for visiting family and getting to hiking areas. Unit was very nice and clean. Fire place was not working which would have been nice since it was a cold weekend.
This would be a great location for spring and summer with easy access to Hanging Rock and within walking distance to the river.
Needs working fireplace
We enjoyed this comfortable cabin with large deck. It is bright, airy and easily accessible. We were disappointed that we were unable to use the fireplace and there were hundreds of lady bugs inside the cabin.
Vineyards, Zip lining, waking distance to the Dan River and Moratock park, canoeing, kayaking and tubing on the Dan River, art gallery, live music, winery, waterfalls, scenic vistas, star gazing, hiking trails and lake for swimming at nearby Hanging Rock State Park voted #1 park in 201. We also have beautiful sights for weddings ,off road bike trails, historic general store, civil war iron furnace and other historic buildings. We are located in the great outdoors!! Time to reconnect with the family, friends and nature and you won't be disappointed. Our local contact is the former Mayor of Danbury and can answer most any question you may have. Look forward to hearing from you.
