About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms + Loft, 3.5 Baths, (Sleeps 8)

Ocean’s Edge is located in the quiet village of Summer Harbor, just next to Winter Harbor and about 35 minutes from Bar Harbor – and the main portion of Acadia National Park. Our property offers stunning views and a quiet retreat in coastal Maine with easy access to hiking, shopping, golfing, and dining.

The house itself is a luxurious log cabin - perfect for a comfortable getaway with oversized bathtubs and an open-air feeling. It boasts floor-to-ceiling windows in the main portion of the house, a chefs kitchen, and plenty of natural light. It also has a laundry room, an expansive front deck, and surrounding grounds that are perfect for exploring. Guests often spot eagles, porcupines, minke whales, and other wildlife in the early morning hours! The size and layout of the house makes it perfect for larger or smaller groups.

Ocean's Edge also has a floating dock, and boat mooring is available for small and large vessels. The coastline is great to kayak along as the waters are peaceful in good weather.

In the morning you could enjoy the deck and sip some coffee while you take in the view and plan your day. During the day you could read book on the dock, walk the shoreline in search of starfish, or set out into the water with a kayak. For dinner grill up a fresh lobster and steamers and enjoy the spectacular sunset.

If you're interested in exploring the area, drive over (or even ride your bike) to Acadia National Park’s lesser travelled Schoodic Peninsula and hike along the bold granite coastline. Grab some lunch in the quaint town of Winter Harbor where you can visit galleries and shop for gifts made by local artisans. You can also head to nearby Jones Pond or Donnell Pond to swim and fish. For more adventures, you can catch the ferry to Bar Harbor and hike the trails of Acadia, or walk around Bar Harbor.

In the Summer months, we rent the property from Saturday-Saturday weekly, but we are open to shorter stays during the Spring and Fall.

About The Owner

Our family has been enamored with Down East Maine since the 1960's - four generations have been exploring the area since our Grandfather first fell in love with Acadia. We're sure you'll fall in love, too!

Comfortable house, beautiful property and view

  • 5 of 5

My family of 5 stayed here for a week and could not have been happier. Eating dinner on the deck as the sun was setting was a highlight. The house itself was more than enough for us space-wise. There are hiking trails a short drive away. Acadia/Bar Harbor is a bit of a drive, but we would probably skip that anyway if we did it again. I highly recommend.

Great Vacation Find

  • 5 of 5

What a great vacation find! Having been to Maine several times as a family to visit lighthouses (Coast Guard military service background), we were delighted with the location and small village atmosphere at nearby Winter Harbor/Gouldsboro. Being tucked away in such a private setting was great. We felt like we had discovered a hidden lodge with all the amenities you could ever want. We enjoyed cooking together in the well-appointed kitchen, taking walks in the beautifully landscaped surroundings, and generally just kicking back. Of course, enjoying the heart-stopping view was the best thing going. The only negative to our trip was not seeing a real moose!

Best Part of Our Trip

  • 5 of 5

Words can not describe the beauty of this property. We had five adults visiting Maine and Canada. We couldn't wait to get back each evening to see the starts and fall asleep to cool air and comfortable beds. The landscaping and design was amazing. Highly recommend this property to anyone looking for beauty, peace and privacy.

I have rented over 60 houses in five countries and all across the US, including over 20 in Hawaii and this is by far the most beautiful house I have ever stayed in. It starts with the view as you pull into the driveway. The grounds, while landscaped retain that natural beauty of Maine. In my imagination I could not have designed a more beautiful home. Everywhere you look, inside and out, there are beautiful or whimsical decorative touches. The carving in the railing on the bottom floor has to be seen. The person who created that is an absolute genius. The porcupine that watches over the great room brings a smile to your face. You have to see the house and spend a week in it to truly appreciate it. Words and pictures cannot even begin to do this house justice.

We were there before the summer season kicks in so the ferry was closed, no water taxi, no buses, few businesses. Luckily J.M. Gerrish opened the week before we arrived and Chase's is open all year. All the other houses on the street were unoccupied but the houses are all situated so that you would never see or hear anybody at this house. The Wi-Fi worked great. The cable worked great but there were so many remotes I was the only person who could figure out the combination of how to use them. The bathrooms were spectacular. The beds comfortable. The kitchen well appointed with a gas range. A really, really comfortable house. There is one bedroom on the main level so if you have people with mobility problems they can still enjoy the house. There are about five steps to get into the house but they are broken up into two steps and three. We had no problem getting our one semi-invalid in. Getting her into the bed, which was a little high, required a small step stool but we had one. A binder with lots of useful area info. The kids loved playing on the shore and exploring the woods.

The bedroom on the top floor, a loft, has no doors and the bottom floor has no door. It was very large with a recliner, couch, and the most spectacular views from the bed to the water. It was like you had your own apartment. But when the kids were on the 3rd floor talking and my husband and I were on the bottom, we could hear them perfectly. And TV sounds traveled up and down. You could also hear the happenings in the main floor great room. The main floor bedroom had a door. We would definitely stay here again. You will not be disappointed, but it may ruin you for other rental houses.

In one word ... "Unbelievable!"

  • 5 of 5

Without question, an exceptionally exquisite, well appointed home. The view is absolutely stunning and second to none. Our family had one of the best vacations that we have ever taken while staying here. This home is decorated in true Maine fashion and is wonderfully maintained. It is nearly impossible not to appreciate all of the beauty it has to offer ! ! !

Beautiful Property and Wonderful Owners

  • 5 of 5

This house is the perfect place to get away from everything. Once we arrived, we didn't want to leave. The town of Winter Harbor is nice and close with a couple of shops. We had a slight issue and the owners were immediately on the problem to resolution. You can purchase fresh lobsters directly off the dock from lobstermen passing by. About a 40-50 minute drive to Bar Harbor which was a bit longer than we first thought but for relaxing Winter Harbor is much better based upon our experience.

We were very pleased with our experience and would certainly come back.
