The owner lives on the property and provides you with the combination of service/assistance (transportation, tours, etc) and privacy that you request.

Main Cabin (inside): King & Queen beds in master suite with A/C & ceiling fan, + separate bathroom with large walk-in shower.

Second Cabin (inside): bedroom with Queen bed & Individual bed and separate bathroom, ceiling fan, floor fan and double-screened open window concept. Perfect for in-laws, children, teenagers, additional friends or couples.

Main Cabin (outside): outdoor kitchen, gas stove burners, BBQ grill & area, dining room and living rooms with accomodations for 6 guests. Kitchen fully stocked and equipped: full-size refridgerator, coffee-maker, toaster, microwave, blender, pots/pans and all the cooking essentials

The host was very communicable from the start. The place is about 25 min from the Arenal volcano and are with activities. The place was spacious and very lush. The game pavilion was fun to have along the other the pool. Everything was great.

This was a great place. The grounds are really beautiful - and we even saw an armadillo our first night. Judah was incredibly helpful in helping us figure out and book our activities, and providing all kinds of directions and recommendations. The property is fairly well located - about 20 minutes from the center of La Fortuna and about 35 minutes from the hanging bridges and ziplining parks we visited near the lake. The spaces that were open to the outside (i.e., everything but the bedrooms and bathrooms) were not too hot and did not have any mosquitoes, so the fact that most spaces were open air was nice. As other reviews have noted, there is noise from trucks and motorcycles periodically passing by that you can hear from the master bedroom starting quite early in the morning, so some might want to come prepared with earplugs and a white noise option. Also, the rough roads other reviews mentioned have been fixed - brand new smooth roads from both directions to the property now.

What a gem! This was the perfect place for my wife and my anniversary trip to Costa Rica. It is located about 20 minutes outside of La Fortuna and Arenal Volcano area, which was perfect for us. It was incredibly quiet, peaceful and secluded. So much so that we had to drive to get anywhere, but that was fine with us. The pool was beautiful and relaxing, if a bit chilly from the frequent rain showers during rainy season (we stayed in late July). But it felt great after a day of activities or laying out in the sun. The property is an acre of lush vegetation with a wonderful path meandering through. We say lots of wildlife and birds during our stay.The thing that took our stay from good to great was Judah Maceo’s assistance in ANYTHING we needed. He helped book us several excursions and even our rental car. His recommendations were always spot on, which was incredibly helpful when traveling to a place you’re not familiar with. He and his staff even went above and beyond, decorating the bed with a message and towel sculpture wishing us a happy anniversary! This is truly a slice of paradise and the service is top notch!

Villa Hermosa was an amazing, authentic Costa Rica experience!The open-air living room and kitchen were really unique and just as enjoyable and comfortable as I expected. The swimming pool had a resort feel, and, along with the game room, provided endless entertainment for our family.To get to the Toucan Villa from the main house, there is a considerable walk through rainforest. The plants and paths are impeccably maintained and stunning, but young children are not likely to feel comfortable staying there alone. Also, some other reviews mention motorcycle and truck noise from the street, which contrasts the otherwise peaceful and secluded feel throughout the property.Overall, our stay at beautiful Villa Hermosa was relaxing, memorable, and a whole lot of fun.

Amazing villa near La Fortuna

We had a wonderful time at Villa Hermosa! So many activities nearby, including sloths, zip lines, waterfall repelling. Our hosts, Michelle and Judah couldn’t have been nicer, outgoing, fun and helpful. A thoroughly enjoyable stay!

Relaxing cottages

We had a great stay. The Villa is about 30 mins away from adventure activities in La Fortuna, but provides a relaxing retreat. The pool area is private and tranquil with lovely gardening. The hosts are very friendly and make everything easy.

Wonderful place in paradise!

Our hosts were some of the nicest people! They really care that we love Costa Rica and helped set up our tours and restaurants! They made our stay fantastic.The ONE thing I would do differently—I wish we would have listened to Judah and had a car service pick us up from the airport! Customs and renting a car took a long time, and we usually rent cars everywhere we go. The car rental from Hertz almost wasn’t big enough for our family and luggage, and was twice the price they quoted online. Once we were in the car, driving towards La Fortuna was SCARY! Our GPS didn’t work (areas don’t have signals), the roads were small and windy, without streetlights, mist/clouds…it was all VERY scary. And on top of not knowing where we were going, the signs were non existent and I didn’t know if we would make it! I would definitely recommend a driver! Once at the house, Judah can get a car for you. He mapped directions and it was easy…once we got there!Once there, it was a beautiful, peaceful place to stay. It’s close to many hotels/springs/restaurants, and like I said, our hosts were fantastic people. It was easy to get to beautiful restaurants and la fortuna hot springs. Judah set us up with tours for white water rafting where we saw sloths, hanging bridges where we saw monkeys, hot springs, and great meals. We fought over who would sleep in the back cabin! Both cabins were comfortable and very peaceful. It was great family time overall.We already can’t wait to go back!

Short and sweet

This is a very well looked after property with a beautiful pool area. However the location was very noisy as the property borders the only major highway. The beds in the small cabin (which was far from the main building) were quite uncomfortable. Had an issue with the gate closing too quickly on our vehicle as we could not move forward or onto the road quickly enough due to oncoming traffic. We had a booking for 8 nights however left 5 days early as we couldn’t see ourselves staying once our friends left. The owners were good to deal with.

Wonderful hosts, gorgeous property

Staying at Villa Hermosa was a paradise within a paradise. We heard the calls of exotic birds, croaking of frogs, and the occasional howler monkey. We made ourselves at home in both guest houses.

 We cooked breakfast each morning on the outdoor cooktop while being visited by all sorts of colorful birds who feasted on fresh fruit on a bird altar. Only the bedrooms/bathrooms are indoors and we loved spending most of our time in the fresh air in the outdoor living areas.Judah was more than a host. He was our default travel agent and helped us plan our days. He also sent us the best routes to take. We only got lost once and it was because we didn’t follow Judah’s directions. :) A typical drive was about 20-25 minutes to get to the La Fortuna area.Each night we invited Judah and Michele over to recap our days and show them pictures of our adventures. They live on the property and were there when we needed them, but otherwise we had our privacy.

Though it was the “dry season” we got our share of intermittent rain. We loved waking early and drinking coffee while it rained. 

We had the good fortune of spotting frogs mating near the pool, an adorable red-eyed tree frog looking for his mate, a handsome Toucan who loved to pose for our cameras, and happy grazing cows in the adjacent field. 
You can tell how much time, energy and love goes into maintaining the property and making a wonderful experience for their guests. We can’t wait to return - hopefully for longer next time!

A great place for families

Check in was great, the owner walked us through the property and how to use the waterfall/lights. Bedrooms and bathrooms were only four walled parts of property, grateful to have a/c option there and enjoyed having dinner at table with open air space. Birds not too loud for sleeping. Great to have a private pool. Road to location was paved, above the property it turned to dirt so you have the option to drive two different ways to la Fortuna. Property is behind a gate so secure. The host was very responsive and helped us plan our outings with great suggestions. Recommend to any family, older children/teenagers could stay in the toucan room so they have their own space.

perfect Immersion in La Fortuna!

We split half our time in the rain forest and half at the Beach. This Perfect property was exactly what the Doctor ordered when it came to getting into the feel of Costa Rica Rain forest. All of the property was outside except the bedrooms. This I thought was a concern until I realized the Mosquitos are not a factor at all due to the elevation of the Property. Nestled on almost one acre, you really get the feel of having a little piece of Costa Rica to your selves. Even our three kids, (17, 15, and 9) thought it was super unique and added to our trip experiment. Highly recommended for those who are looking for a true Pura Vida Experience.

Amazing host

Beautiful spot surrounded by nature. Judah was an exceptional host! He was quick to answer any question and every suggestion he had from the best route, to restaurants, to the best companies to use for activities was spot on perfect! His guidance made our trip all the more enjoyable.

Wonderful stay

We enjoyed a 4 night stay at Judah’s place - our first visit to Costa Rica. Beautiful property! So many birds! My 15 year old loved the pool - and the pool/game room at night! We are so glad we opted to use Mario, their local transportation from the airport to the rental. He met us at the airport, helped us navigate the grocery store on our way to the rental and told us so much about his country. Highly recommend Mario! We then rented a car for our 3 days in the Arenal area. Judah’s location is perhaps 25 minutes outside the La Fortuna downtown area, but that wasn’t a huge concern for us. The property was safe, relaxing and not far from a few great restaurants. We’d stay there again!

Spring trip was fantastic

My wife and I stayed here in March and had an amazing time. Judah and his mom greeted us right away and were available as much as we needed them but were otherwise invisible. The property is a true outdoor paradise escape. We felt so secluded but still close to anything we wanted to do. The pool being private and COMPLETELY surrounded by plush greenery was one of my favorite things as well as the walking paths through the jungle on the property. Judah was incredibly helpful pre-trip in helping us plan, set up any and all reservations we needed including rental car, and responded promptly any time I had a question while on the trip. La Fortuna as a whole was the perfect trip with so much to do close by and this was the perfect place to be close to it all without being within the city itself. If we ever come back to La Fortuna (lots of world still to see) we would absolutely come back here. Thanks again Judah and to your mom as well.

Wonderful hosts, gorgeous property

The grounds, pool and ample space were perfect for our party of four. Felt like we were staying in our own private resort. The open air aspect of the main area was perfect for enjoying the tropical rains, the bedding was most comfortable and the bathrooms were surprisingly large - especially the showers. Judah and Michelle were gracious hosts, providing guidance and recommendations for various tours. We hated to leave after our six night stay. There is so much to do in the area, but we also enjoyed just relaxing at the property. Several fabulous restaurants with incredible views are nearby. We hope to return!

Beautiful property with game room, pool and separate living space for teens

We really enjoyed this property. It was well kept, close to town, The Springs Resort, and several good restaurants. We did the two day pass at The Springs and had a very good time river rafting and soaking in the springs. We at an Don Luisa's, Jalapo's and a nearby pizza restaurant. Each night/afternoon we played pool and horseshoes with our teenagers. We did not cook while here but the set up seems good for those that would like to do so. The kids only used the pool once since it rained pretty hard most afternoons; however, it is a beautiful setting. The only suggestion I would have is to have a book at the house describing everything that you need to know, along with recommendations for food and activities. For directions, just turn at the blue Jalapos sign and continue as if you were going to the restaurant. Although some mention the road is rough getting to it, we did not find that to be the case at all. If you have driven from San Jose here - this was EASY compared to those :) Don't hesitate on this one - just book.

Beautiful place and great introduction to Costa Rica!

Property was fantastic and completely as advertised. Clean while feeling immersed in nature. The owners really care about the property and it shows - it really is a special place. Pool area is fantastic and amenities are ample to make the stay comfortable. Despite being in relatively close proximity to the main house, the owner did a nice job giving the group privacy while being available to help with whatever we needed. Super close to a couple of fantastic restaurants as well, including Dona Luisa. Highly recommend!

Villa Hermosa

We had such a lovely time. Thank you for being a supper host too Judah! Your accommodation for us was perfect, comfortable well stocked with utensils pots, plates etc. Having the cabin separate for the girls was perfect too. The special place was the pool surrounded by amazing plants and birds very relaxing and peaceful, especially after a day of adventure. We miss you all and the amazing restaurant Jalapas! Not What I Expected

I'll give the Pros first: The pool is beautiful and the gardens/paths are full of exotic plants. This is a unique property with nice outdoor spaces. There are two good restaurants nearby. Judah graciously made reservations for us at the hot springs and helped with directions. The Cons: It's a hard drive to this property because of the very bumpy, dirt road. You will have to endure about 20 minutes of a teeth-rattling drive to finally get to the paved part of the road. You also should know that the only part of the property that is fully walled is the master bedroom. The kitchen and dining room are outdoor spaces. Even the guest cottage (which they refer to as Villa Toucan) is partially screened with no AC. The game room is across the driveway, under a detached garage. Wi-Fi is only available in the master bedroom and the outdoor kitchen. Whoever is staying in the guest cottage will not have connectivity, nor will they have complete privacy due to the partial walls. This didn't go over well with our teen kids. Both shower faucets were a disappointment. We either couldn't get any warm water, or it would go from cold to scalding hot, with no control over the temperature. I would suggest that the owners address this issue so the guests can take comfortable showers. I did not expect to hear so much road-noise, starting at 6:00 am. Many people in this area drive ATVs and dirt bikes, so it was quite noisy during commute times because the master bedroom is so close to the road. I also found it strange that someone came into our bedrooms while we were away and moved our luggage around (for no apparent reason). I know each family is looking for different amenities, but I think our stay in the La Fortuna area would have been much better if we had stayed at one of the Hot Springs resorts (Paradise Hot Springs is about the same price).

Beautiful property near La Fortuna activities

I originally booked this property because i fell in love with the pool pictures, and those pictures did not disappoint. The pool area was actually larger than I expected and surrounded with lush, beautiful trees and plants. The whole property is a gorgeous garden. Judah was incredibly helpful before and during our stay. He's happy to help book excursions and is avaiable for any questions you have. That was appreciated! He and Michele were there during our stay (their home is also on the property) and were there to greet us upon arrival. Thank you to Michele for loving on our babies. :) We appreciated the little extras like pool floats and games. We didn't do much cooking, but there is a grill and stovetop. It's about a 15-20 minute drive into La Fortuna. Some parts of the roads are paved and others are quite bumpy. We drove into La Fortuna most days for an excursion. We enjoyed hot springs, waterfall rapelling, and horseback riding to the La Fortuna waterfall. We also found a free swiming hole with a rope swing that was a favorite for our family. We also ate at two restaurants very close to the house and both were excellent! I will note that I feel this property is better suited for older children. The second house that sleeps three is on the back side of the property. My kids did fine with that, but they did have to walk across the pool deck and through a short path to get to the main house. It was also slightly difficult to keep them away from the game room as the owners ask all kids be accompanied by an adult and my kids wanted to play pool and darts way more than my husband and I did. ;) I felt the pressure of making sure my kids were always in my sight and not being too loud as the owners were also on site. But for families with older kids or just adults, this property is fantastic! Thank you again to Judah and Michele for sharing your home with us! La Fortuna is full of so many fun activities and adventures and the volcano is gorgeous! The Costa Rican people are as kind and warm as they come!

Great property for hanging out and getting around

The property is very nice, the pool well maintained, and the detached rooms a nice bonus. It is a little bit of a drive to get to other areas, and you have to get used to how the dirt roads impact your drive, but otherwise well placed. Our family had a great visit.

Great property - Great Host

Our family of five enjoyed a great week. Judah did a terrific job of surveying our interests for local activities, setting up the week, and communicating effectively along the way. His recommendations for Kayak safari, sunset boat tour, Volcano hike, hot springs, and massages were great and really saved us the hassle/risk of sorting through options on our own. Last time in Costa Rica we secured a rental SUV at SJO. Our total cost with Judah's shuttle and local SUV was about the same, but so much easier for both ends of the trip. Highly recommend. The property itself is wonderful, with plenty of space for larger families and privacy. Since only the bedrooms/bathrooms are indoors, it does have a very outdoors feel which is wonderful. All the leisure time and meal prep/consumption are out in the fresh air which we loved. My family really liked that Judah and Michelle were also on property in their own separate residence. They hit their goal of being available but not intrusive. They were there to welcome us on arrival the first evening and saw us off at 12:40 AM the last day. Top notch. If we could do it over again, I think we would have skipped the $$$ dinner at the Springs resort and had 2-3 other dinners out at local restaurants. The dinner and atmosphere was great, but just a lot of budget for a single meal. The recommended clinic for Covid tests for return to US was fine and cost was the same as doing it at the airport.

Such a wonderful gem!

Villa Hermosa and Villa Toucan did not disappoint! The property was beautiful and the location was just what we were looking for! Judah and Michelle are by far the best hosts! They were so nice and welcoming, and Judah helped setup reservations and tours for us, which were outstanding! We saw beautiful birds every morning and red-eyed tree frogs at night. Costa Rica is beautiful and we would definitely stay at Villa Hermosa again! Thank you Judah and Michelle!

Wonderful hosts

Our hosts were very communicative throughout the whole stay. The property is beautifully maintained and we loved a morning and evening swim in the tranquil pool. This was a nice calm retreat for our family of 5.
