Right on the water this beautiful four bedroom home, with renovated kitchen, has natural light and a breathtaking view of the largest beach in Delaware from every room of the house. The ground floor has a garage, a hot tub room, and shower room.

The main floor, an open floor plan, has a large kitchen with all upgraded appliances, a huge counter with 3 stools, a dining area with easy seating for 10 people (more if you need), entrance to the huge wrap-around deck, a sitting area , the living room and the sunroom. This floor also has a washer and dryer and 1/2 bath. The kitchen, dining area, and sitting area have bamboo flooring; the living room and sunroom have carpet, The living room, with apple TV, and adjacent sun room have new furniture. The living room connects to the sunroom that is full of windows and a sliding door to the deck. On this wraparound deck are many chairs, a picnic table, and BBQ, all elements that create an inviting atmosphere for viewing the great expanse. The inside open floor plan makes the main floor feel spacious and comfortable with the beach and water always in view.

Upstairs has 4 bedrooms, all with vaulted ceilings, and two full baths. The master bedroom suite has a king sized bed, a two sink bathroom with a shower and large size bathing tub. Also, the bedroom opens to a beautiful screened in porch with sweeping views up and down the shoreline. Two other generous bedrooms have queen sized beds and twin beds with a trundle bed underneath. The fourth bedroom has a bunkbed and TV. This room connects to the upper deck that feels private with spectacular views of the beach and water. These bedrooms have a shared bathroom with a double sink and shower.

Romantic getaway or family fun! Also terrific for special events and weddings.

This lovely home sits on a beautiful beach that feels private. Across the street is the Prime Hook Nature Reserve with eagles, osprey and other birds of interest. You can enjoy the sun rising over the Atlantic with coffee in the morning (you’ll probably see Dolphins swimming close to shore) and cocktails in the evening as you marvel at exquisite sunsets over Prime Hook. It’s perfect for couples wanting a romantic getaway or three generational families having a yearly reunion. The beach is ideal for young children because the Bay waves are gentle and calm, the beach is flat, making any beach game easy and enjoyable.

Within 10-20 minutes you can:

• Shop at designer outlets

• Play 18 holes at a beautiful local golf course

• Body surf on the waves at Cape Henlopen

• Dine at great restaurants in Lewes and Rehoboth

• Take the Lewes Ferry to Cape May, New Jersey

• Enjoy the nightlife and boardwalk of Rehoboth

• Hike on wooded nature trails(great for bird watching)

• Bowling

• Movie Theaters

During the summer months, a quaint little neighborhood store sells sandwiches, basic supplies and fishing equipment and on weekends they make fabulous home-made donuts. Fifteen minutes away is the little gem of a town called Lewes (the natives pronounce it Lewis) with great restaurants both formal and informal, antiques, art and stylish clothing stores. In addition to Lewes, we are in striking distance for Milton restaurants, and also the busier cities of Rehoboth, Bethany Beach, Dewey Beach and Ocean City. Lots of variety and choices.

Why not rent the place for a month while you finish your novel? We have Wi-Fi for surfing the web, cable TV, and DVD players. Bring your kayak and put in on the bay. Walk the beach for miles in both directions and explore a mysterious shipwreck-you can see it with your binoculars from the deck-that baffles even the local historians as to its identity.

About Tess Wald

Our family has been in love with Broadkill since 1985. We finally realized our dream come true when we made our first Broadkill purchase in 2004. This house, Beachfront Tranquility, right on the water, we purchased in 2007 and find it to be the place where you can leave the world behind and truly getaway.

Tess Wald purchased this house in 2007

Why Tess Wald chose Broadkill Beach

We love the water. Hands down. And this property, right on the beach and the water is our dream come true. No matter what the weather there is always something to watch out of all the windows. Once we walk through the front door the rest of the world just fades away and we feel on a retreat. Yet, we are so close to lots of stores, restaurants, activities and historic adventures. That's a glimpse into why we love this property and wish to share it with you.

What makes this house unique

I can see and hear the beach from every room. We are literally right on the beach and water. Our wide, flat, beach is great for all types of beach games. The warm water has a sandy bottom and stays shallow for hundreds of feet; perfect for all ages. Our sunroom, an additional room filled with windows, is my private refuge.

Thinking of a private small wedding on the beach? Our house can provide that dream wedding or event for you. Contact for ideas and resources.

Guestbook comments from the manager

What a beautiful place this is! The beach is spectacular and the house is comfortable and inviting. Some of our favorite things to do: Walk on the beach-morning and afternoon. Sitting on the deck reading and watching the ships and sharing meals in the kitchen.

We hope to come back again. It was a very relaxing visit!

Hearing the beach waves from every room in the house will help anyone relax into their vacation. We are one of the few houses left in Broadkill that has no dune and fence obstruction and therefore our house has instant access to the water. Just go down the path and in 30 feet you're at the beach and the water.

Needs better internet, dishwasher, and vacuum.

Owner's Response: Dear Bob, I really appreciate you taking the time to give us feedback on your experience. I"m so sorry these three items, the dishwasher, vacuum and internet were not great contributors to your experience. The internet unfortunately needed a new modem, so that is now fixed and we have the fastest service Deleware has to offer. As for the vacuum, I have a new one in place. Thirdly, I have checked out the dishwasher and had it cleaned. The sand gets into the water and causes the dishwasher to be spotty at times. But its back up and running well. I so appreciate your input as this is exactly what I need to keep the house running at high performance in order for you to have an easy and effortless stay. We want all our renters to have a great experience building new memories and you are helping that happen! Hope to see you again! Really happy to hear you had a great time! Respectfully, Tess Wald

Great summer beach house.

  • 5 of 5

Very nice house. Large, modern kitchen and dining area. Great sun room. Easy access to a nice beach. Bedrooms were large. Only drawback was the air conditioner had to work to cool the upstairs bedrooms.

Owner's Response: Dear Mark, Thank you so much for taking the time to give us feedback about your experience at our beach house. I'm so sorry to hear about the air conditioner working hard to keep the bedrooms cool. I have looked into that right away as I know it's hot in the summer and you wish for a cool night's sleep. I'm delighted you enjoyed our kitchen - we hear great stories about families cooking and laughing together while looking at the water - great family memories made at the beach. We do so appreciate as you said the easy access to the beach - we're lucky because the beach reclamation ended just before our house, so as you saw, we're one of the few houses in Broadkill where you don't have a dune and fence in front of you - you just walk right out to the beach. Thanks again so much for staying at our house and we hope we can see you back again in another year. We're making more changes this year, so there's always something new! Respectfully, Tess Wald .

Another Great Family Vacation

  • 5 of 5

This is our 3rd time vacationing at the beach house - this time for 2 weeks. There were 4 adults and 3 children, with 2 additional adults joining us for a few days. We had fun participating in the 4th of July parade on July 1 by decorating and riding bikes on the parade route which ran the entire length of Bayshore Drive. What a patriotic home town feel - lots of flags and red, white, and blue. Of course, we also enjoyed the home made donuts at the Broadkill store! The house provides plenty of room for both family and "alone" time. We never got tired of the beach views from every room in the house. Everything you need for cooking can be found in the kitchen. Eating steamed crabs on the deck was a special treat . One of our favorite things about staying at Broadkill is being able to have bonfires on the beach - always fun and the kids look forward to s'mores!! The weather was perfect and the bay water warm. Some family members always enjoy the fishing from the beach. Another vacation with fond memories :)

Owner's Response: Dear Sue, Thank you Sue first of all for making this your third time to our house - your family is the best! You choose a great time this year with the Fourth of July, the spirit of Broadkill comes out in full view and it's a true delight. Your love of bonfires and s'mores is one of our family's yearly tradition and your description made me smile remembering those special moments. Thank you for bringing all of your family and finding so many ways to create new family memories. I will remember to have s'more supplies for you and your family in the house if you choose to come back again!! Cheers, Tess

A Perfect Family Vacation

  • 5 of 5

Our time at Broadkill Beach was fabulous! The house was wonderful and the layout was great for our family. It was so amazing to walk in and see the beautiful view. We lived in the sunroom at night - so nice to open the windows and enjoy the sound of the waves without all the bugs. We essentially had the gorgeous beach to ourselves the entire stay. Lori was wonderful to work with and so responsive to any questions we had. We had never been to the area before and completely fell in love. It is so quiet and private but yet so close to plenty of wonderful restaurants and activities. It was so special to spend the week here with our family. Our kids loved all the horseshoe crabs and having bonfires on the beach. Even the waves were the perfect size for them! We were so sad to leave when our week was over. I hope we will be able to go back very soon!

Owner's Response: Dear Mollie, Thank you so much for taking the time to write a review of your family stay at our house. You hit all the great treasures of the area with your description - it's what we so love ourselves about Broadkill. I'm delighted you explored the surrounding areas also, they are indeed so close and it rounds out the Deleware Beach experience. We truly value our families like yours and want to thank you for choosing our house. We hope to see you again! Cheers, Tess Wald

Beautiful House

  • 5 of 5

The house and location were absolutely perfect for a respite by the sea. We arrived in time to see the horseshoe crabs performing their yearly ritual and learned more about them than I ever knew. We saw dolphins in the water and after the storm, their was a shark and a stingray washed up on the beach. The sound of the waves at night was amazing and I slept like a baby on the wonderful king sized bed. We had rain for a few days and where able to go into Rehoboth to shop at the Tanger outlets. We hit up the best creole restaurant just a few miles away and enjoyed a great local restaurant with great breakfasts. I do not want to take anything away from the great time we had but the living room furniture was quite uncomfortable and could use a good cleaning. The lights in the master bedroom flickered quite badly and we had a difficult time opening and closing the sliding glass doors. I wouldn't recommend the house for people who have difficulty walking as there are at least 15 steps to get into the house and another flight to get to the bedroom. Even with the few caveats I would highly recommend this beautiful house.

Owner's Response: We are so pleased that you had such a perfect time at our home. We greatly value your 5 Star review. Thank you for calling our attention to your observations about our beach house. Our renters’ comfort is our number one priority and we greatly appreciate your feedback. I am so very sorry about your items that caused your experience to be less then perfect. Your discomfort with the furniture was distressing to say the least and we immediately ordered new furniture for the living room, with softer cushions and easily cleanable fabrics. I also had our handyman address the door mechanism and make the sliding easier again. And I'm sorry about the flickering lights, there was an old dimmer switch that we also had replaced that weekend during the changeover. I'm also sorry about the steps leading up to the house. We realize it does present a set of steps for our renters, the only consolation is that if the bay floods, then our house, a full story above the sand, is safe from the water. We hope that now that these items, except for the steps, are now corrected you might consider coming back and see the other changes we have also made to the house. We would love to have you try us again! Cheers, Tess Wald
