About the property

Cabin, 3 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 5-8)

Mountains & Meadows at Turkey Pen is the perfect destination to enjoy with your family and friends, especially if you are looking for a private retreat. We also host events on the fields of this 250 acre pristine property, surrounded by the Pisgah National Forest. The creeks, ponds, barns, & undisturbed private mountains offer a peaceful, private backdrop. Camping is available. Guests are welcome to bring their personal horses for horseback riding The property borders miles of national forest trails. Camping & Events have separate fees, inquire about pricing

Our cabin sits on a hilltop overlooking pastures with horses, waterwheel, fishing pond, and stream. While sitting in a rocking chair, or swinging on the porch swing, you will enjoy the panoramic mountain views. The quietness offers a relaxing and tranquil vacation.

Our secluded 250 acres of heavily wooded forest borders the Pisgah National Forest. 'Turkey Pen' trail-head is where Native Americans once gathered wild turkeys. We still unearth arrowheads today and wild turkey sightings are a regular occurrence.

As a participant in North Carolina's Stewardship Program, we are committed to preserving wildlife and enhancing the land. During your stay you will see many species of birds, wild turkey, deer, and other wildlife.

We offer private hiking trails that adjoin the National Forest. There are also Blue Ribbon trout streams that are accessible from these trails. Bring your own horse if you want to. We offer a separate pasture with a stream to accommodate your horse. However, we do not provide shelter or stalls.

While we do offer a private retreat, we are conveniently located to Brevard, Asheville, and Hendersonville, NC, that are just minutes away.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Just what my family needed to get a break from the "big city." Our children enjoyed running through the pasture, feeding apples to the owner's horses, fishing in the big pond, hiking the trails and seeing the trout from the mountain streams was a plus! The beauty and peacefulness of the surroundings was more than we expected. The cabin was a place that you would want to stay "forever!" Surrounded by the views of the Pisgah Forest was breath-taking. We felt that we were totally away from the hustle of city life; yet to our surprise, once on the main highway, we were only a few miles from the town of Brevard - with all the amenities that we "city-folk" think that we need. We were surprised at how close we were to many beautiful sight-seeing short trips, and then back to the cabin to enjoy the rest of the days and evenings. This will be a regular place for you to stay for years to come. Our family definitely made some good memories. Thank you.

Amazing, private and perfect!

  • 5 of 5

What an amazing place to call home for the last week! Our children loved visiting the horses, hiking the trail right from the cabin as well as the numerous options in near by Pisgah Forest, and exploring the creek, fields, and lake right outside our door.

The cabin is charming, well stocked with ample space for my husband and I along with our 3 children under 12 and our dog. The back porch looking over the valley was our primary spot every day: meals, family games, reading, or just enjoying the peace and quiet. The owners are lovely and gracious. I just wish I could figure out a way to get back there sooner!

Our many thanks to Katherine, Alisha and their families for sharing their wonderful home with us. We will definitely be back!!

Property is great. Closing the gates to get in and out with kids was challenging.

  • 3 of 5

Its comfortable, nice, great outdoors experience. I was surprised by the lack of contact I had with the landlord. I guess some people don't want to be bothered but I made reference to the fact I had kids, wanted to fish etc.. I ran into someone working on the property who explained we could walk through the various fields as things are sectioned off for their animals. The rooms didn't have blinds in the windows which was odd and made getting the kids to sleep a LITTLE difficult. Don't get me wrong...it is a nice place. If I was on a hiking trip with friends it would have been prefect. I guess I was a little surprised about the impersonal email contact from the manager and it oversells what you can do on the property...or it was never explained.

BEST VACATION!

  • 5 of 5

This cabin and property was beautiful inside and out. My husband and I and our 6 children enjoyed the beauty all around us each day we were there. The kids enjoyed fishing in the ponds and hiking through the trails in the woods. I so enjoyed sitting out on the porch and watching the geese, turkeys and horses out in the meadow. The house was fully furnished with everything we needed except for a gallon size pitcher to make sweet tea in ;) (there is one there now though because we purchased one and left it there) Walmart and grocery stores are just about 10 min away to get the groceries you would need for your stay.

We enjoyed this vacation so much it was the best vacation we have had yet!! We plan to go back very soon!!

Alicia was the sweetest person to work with and responded to any questions we had asap. Her husband and children were also nice and very helpful with anything we needed. We thank the family so much for allowing us to rent this cabin and share the beauty of Gods creations with us at this property.
