I grew up in Tomahawk, moved away, raised a family and returned to my home town. I inherited this home from my dad. This home was designed to host large gatherings of family & friends. Like my dad, I enjoy people and enjoy sharing my home with family & friends and welcoming new friends. I also have my own private apartment in this home. It does not interfere with your vacation space. When I am not working I enjoy music, fishing, boating, yard work, cross country skiing, hiking, and being outside. Most of all I love to spend time with family and enjoy travelling to see my kids and grandkids. Of course, they also enjoy coming to visit me, too. My home holds many wonderful memories for my family. The maintenance on this home is huge. When my son & his wife introduced me to VRBO it transformed my vision of this home from burden to blessing and from "for sale" to "for keeps." It's been exciting to upgrade this house and to make this a little piece of heaven on earth for all who gather here.
Ellen purchased this House in 1996
Why Ellen chose Tomahawk
The land has been in the family since the 1960's. The home was built with hand cut logs from family property in 1980 by my dad. It is my desire to share this amazing place with others. If you desire to have a retreat or craft event or a wedding there are excellent catering options in the area! As an artist it is an inspiring place to rejuvenate & be creative. I've had church retreats, quilting retreats, scrapbook retreats, family reunions, weddings & receptions, & much more here. Ample room for multiple families! Perfect for Thanksgiving, Christmas or other Holidays.
What makes this House unique
This is an awesome place for multi-family gatherings, craft retreats, corporate or church retreats, & quiet getaways! 15 acres! While the living area can host a party of 100 there is also plenty of personal space for everyone in this large home. And the view is amazing! You can create a soothing retreat from the normal routine of life or provide a large arena for food, fun, fishing, boating, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, cross country skiing, hiking, biking, games, campfires and making great memories! Very close to grocery & shopping. Experience your own personal lodge! Create your own craft, corporate or church retreat. Bring tents & have the best of both worlds. Book this home for your wedding rather than a banquet facility for a dreamy setting!

The place was great for our family snowmobile adventure!
We had a tremendous time with more than enough room, bathrooms and beds for the 11 of us who stayed here. Greatroom was a super place where we would congregate for cocktails and munchies after a day on the trails. The trails in the area were snirty, but that was this year. Appreciated the opportunity to stay here and be all together. The boys wished they had their ice fishing equipment for some nighttime fishing.
Fantastic Family Reunioin
The home was exactly what our family needed. We had spent the previous 10 or so reunions at resorts, hotels, destinations, etc. where the family is in separate rooms doing their own things only to come together for a short dinner and drinks typically in a rented meeting room. The problem was that we really weren't spending quality time with each others families that we don't see that often. Ellen's home was big enough to sleep half of our group and to have plenty of space for our whole group to enjoy themselves together throughout the day. The property is absolutely beautiful and Ellen couldn't have been more accommodating!! Our family of over 30 people overwhelmingly voted this reunion as our best one yet due to the atmosphere it created for 3 different generations of our family to truly interact with each other. I highly recommend this property for anyone looking to spend time together at a place that has plenty of indoor space, a beautiful property on the water that can handle just about any group size, and convenient access to the water (the two canoes available from Ellen were great as well)!
It was a joy to have your family at my home! I'm thrilled that your family had a lot of quality time together and that you found my home to be very accommodating for your reunion. Your family took really good care of my home & I would definitely welcome you anytime! Thanks for the awesome review.
Incredbile property and the owner is so accommodating and helpful! I would recommend 100%
We had our wedding of 70 people at this property and the entire event was incredible! Ellen was so helpful and accommodation throughout the entire process! She went above and beyond to make our special everything we hoped for. All of our guests commented on how gorgeous the property is and how perfect it was for the event. There was lots of open spaces for the tent and yard games and plenty of room in the house for all of our wedding party! The house was fully furnished with everything we could possibly need during our stay. Thank you so much for sharing your home with us, Ellen! We could not have asked for a better location!
It is a joy to work with guests to make their stay or event the best it could be! Great communication and an enthusiastic approach help me prepare for their stay. This home was designed by my dad with the intent to welcome large groups of family and friends. My passion is to walk in his footsteps filling this amazing cabin with warm hospitality and a genuine interest in those who find their way to my home on the Spirit River.
A group of 12 of my friends got together for a bachelor party and the host, and the property, were perfect for what we wanted. The pictures do not do this property justice because it is so amazing. Ellen was very easy to work with and gave us directions on what to do if something were to happen. There were local golf courses and places for food nearby if you feel like leaving the house. Highly recommend this property for any outing!
Great Spot for a Large Diverse Group
We rented out this great cabin for a bachelorette party weekend with about 22 people. The group was mid 20's all the way up to 60's. This cabin offered many different areas to sleep which was nice for people who wanted a quiet night or people who wanted to stay up late! Having two kitchens was also helpful for cooking and storing all of the food/drinks. Everyone really enjoyed the size of the cabin and all the amenities the Ellen had to offer.
The only draw back to this cabin was the water/lake. The shore line was pretty much unswimable. We were there during some really hot days in August and the lake was pretty cruddy to swim in. Some girls took floats out but said it wasn't much better in the middle either. However, there is nothing that the own can do about that!
There are some close by local bars to go to and the town does offer some grocery stores and gas stations. If you forget anything a trip to the store is not far away.
We would all come back and stay again. Ellen was a great host and was able to answer all of our questions. THANKS!
Our family needed a place to have a "Pepper Reunion", and we found it in this wonderful cabin just west of Tomahawk, WI. Pepper's wish at her passing was that our family would get together. Ellen's cabin was "perfect" for the variety of ages, from 1 month to 83 years old and it has wonderful usability for large groups (ours was 19+)--yet small group settings are found throughout her cabin and property for games, card playing, boardgames, cribbage boards, pool table, movies (DVD), books and toys. Photo ops abound for group, activity related, and nature pictures (deer, squirrels, bald eagle, geese, cardinals, baltimore orioles, goldfinches, cedar wax wings, and many more). Our family loves music and the piano was played daily. Cooking was a dream with 2 fully equipped kitchens including a professional grill, 6-burner gas stove top and 4 ovens (2 of the 4 convection ovens) upstairs, and a stove/oven combo in the lowest level, with a walk-out option that works perfectly for grilling and eating in or out. We used the canoes and boat and caught one meal of fish. The sleeping options are more than advertised and the lowest level is enough for a family of 5. "Priceless" is the best description for the memories that were reviewed and made during the week at Ellen's cabin! Thank you Ellen, we will never forget our visit to your cabin.
Plenty of 4 wheeler & snowmobile trails nearby, bicycle trails, hiking, Great motorcycle Riding (ask about garage parking for bikes), nearby Winery, Harley Davidson Plant in town offers tours in the summer, Timm's Hill 20 miles west on Hwy 86 for hiking as well as Harrison area 10 miles east with many more nearby options, Summer-Water Ski Show, Water parks in nearby Minocqua & Wausau, Wildlife zoo in Minocqua (summer), 40 min. to snow skiing at Granite Peak & 90 min. to the U.P.
