Sunset Cottage - Capture Breathtaking Sunsets from this Beautiful Home

Perched overlooking Merriconeag Sound rests this charming, beautifully furnished 2BR, 1.5 BA Bailey Island cottage. Perfectly located in the West Shore neighborhood, you'll love being within walking distance of all the islands have to offer including Cook's Lobster & Ale House, Sundrenched, Fishnet Cafe, Bailey Island General Store, and just a short drive away from other great local eats. Spend your days lounging on the sunlit deck watching the lobster boats pass by or go on a nearby adventure. Just make sure you make it back in time for the glorious sunsets over the sound.

Inside the cottage are two bedrooms, each with a queen size bed, a full bathroom with a shower on the first floor, with a half bathroom on the lower level, fully stocked kitchen, and a living room area with a sofa, two chairs and a flat screen TV. For additional comfort, the cottage offers heat pumps with A/C for hot summer days. Outside there is an elevated deck with a picnic table, umbrella, and two adirondack chairs, a yard area, and stairs to access the waterfront.

Experience Maine, the way life should be, at Sunset Cottage and it will surely beckon you back for years to come!

Please note- The stairs to access the waterfront are very steep. For easy kayak access, we would recommend launching from Garrison Cove, just down the road.

Dogs are welcome at Sunset Cottage (a non-refundable pet fee applies). More than one dog requires permission from the host.

They say 'You can't go home again'....but we did

I summered on these islands as a child 60+ years ago and wondered how they would be now. The islands feel the same as they did all those years ago. The crib stone bridge still stands strong (my grandfather was the 2nd car to drive over it in 1928). Lands End still sits at the farthest point of land and offers all the memories you could want. And Cooks still sells fresh lobster and seafood with a stunning view. The cottage was beyond our expectations, we spent hours on the deck watching the ocean as it ebbed and flowed through the tides. The cottage was updated and so comfortable from the furniture and beds to the well stocked kitchen. We felt a little sad leaving Bailey's but know we will return someday and it will remain the quintessential Maine Island I loved as a child.

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We did a mother-daughter 5-night get-away to this cottage and it was perfect. We had a combination of relaxing and being active. We hiked/walking local trails like Devil's Back, Giant's Stairs, Otter Brook Preserve, and Cliff Trail. We enjoyed Cedar Beach and although you can walk there (we did twice), if you're taking a lot of stuff with you you'll want to drive and parking is very limited. We did mostly take out for dinner because we just wanted to keep enjoying the deck! Had excellent food from all of these places: Sundrenched Cafe (lobster roll and lobster BLT), Bailey Island General Store (twice - lobster roll lunch and another day pizza for dinner), Cook's (twice - once for dinner and once for lunch after walking a loop from the house to Cedar Beach back around to Cook's then to the cottage). We did not have an opportunity to kayak as the day we planned for that was way too windy. We explored the back end stones and stone ledge, but I wouldn't recommend swimming off the property as it is very difficult to navigate and the seaweed is very thick - much easier to take a dip at Cedar Beach. The property was clean and the kitchen provided everything we needed for our stay. We left our cone coffee filters for the next visitor as neither of us has the need for that filter type at home. The TV has all the loaded apps you'd need if a day is dreary, and there are games as well. But if the weather is good and you don't feel like going anywhere, reading on the day, listening to the boats and the water lapping on the rocks, and smelling the salt air until the gorgeous sunset is a complete day!

We've been coming to Bailey Island for nearly 40 years now and we were fortunate to stumble upon this home as the one we have always rented was badly damaged from the storms last winter. Took us awhile to figure out how to watch TV but we are an older couple and “technically challenged “. As seniors we also had a challenge with the bedrooms beings downstairs but I missed this description on the website so this was my fault. Regardless we had a wonderful week. Two comments: we paid $115 for linens so I did not expect to put them on when we arrived. The owners should have this done for their guests. Also having to do housework upon leaving the cottage should not be the guest’s responsibility.

Reviewer Comments: My brother and I along with our spouses had a great week at Sea Ledge North (49 West Shore) and if we return to Bailey Island in the future we'd want to stay here again. This house is in a perfect location, great views, has been tastefully updated, very well appointed for cooking, front and back porches and is perfect for 4 people. One note on the WIFI, the PW is shown in upper-case letters on the welcome sheet, however, the PW must be entered in all lower-case letters (may want to update that) Loved to walk to the "Fishing Net" cafe each morning for breakfast and Cook's Lobster for drinks. 5 stars for this rental!
