The area has more depth than most guests expect. Nora Mill Granary, a working grist mill on the Chattahoochee River that has been grinding corn since 1876, is minutes away and worth a stop for fresh-ground grits alone.
Thrill seekers can hit the Georgia Mountain Coaster, the only alpine coaster in the state, or zip line with Nacoochee Adventures on a course that tops 50 mph. Groups looking for something more laid back can float the Chattahoochee through downtown Helen on Cool River Tubing.
For a slower morning, the Old Sautee Store has been open since 1872 and still sells local goods the way it always has. And if your trip falls between September and November, Helen's Oktoberfest at the Festhalle draws crowds from across the Southeast for food, beer, and dancing in the middle of a Bavarian village.
Whether your group comes for the wineries, the trails, the river, or just a real reason to finally slow down together, the area delivers on all of it.
Guests will have access to the entire property as well as Mays Lake and the pavilion area. Guests will be provided a unique 4-digit code prior to arrival.
We are available by text, email, or phone to answer any questions or concerns.
Located within the gated subdivision Yonah Mountain Lake offering a covered community pavilion w/ fireplace and grills. There is a dock with access to the private Mays Lake where you can fish and kayak! Located in the heart of the Unicoi Wine Trail and surrounded by 10 incredible wineries and 10 minutes from downtown Helen —a whimsical Bavarian-style village filled with unique shops and restaurants.

Thank you for your thoughtful feedback! We're happy to hear that Yonah Mountain Farmhouse had everything you needed, especially for cooking and spending quality time together. The perfect family retreat is exactly what we were going for and would love to have you return in the future!
The home was wonderful in every way! Lots of space for a group to be together and socialize- but each bedroom was spacious on it's own and each had it's own ensuite bathroom which was incredibly convenient. The large downstairs with all of the games and lounging areas was wonderful for games and hanging out. Kitchen was well appointed, and the dining table was very spacious for a large group. Ample parking and easy to get access and close to shopping and groceries! A great stay overall!

House was amazing and great location. Wish the owner had been a little bit more flexible with arrival time.... We knew we were going to be in town 1 hr sooner than checkin and was told we would have to pay the early checkin fee for just 1 hour.

We appreciate your kind words about Yonah Mountain Farmhouse and are happy you enjoyed your stay. For early arrivals, we do offer one straightforward choice—which is listed on the booking details—a $60 early check-in fee that allows guests to come up to four hours before the usual time. Because travel schedules can shift and our cleaners need a guaranteed window, having one clearly defined option helps us prepare the home properly. We truly appreciate your understanding and would be happy to welcome you back in the future!
We went for Oktoberfest in Helen and it was a great stay. The place was clean and had all the essentials that we needed. The kitchen, bedrooms, and entertaining areas are well stocked. Plenty of parking. Safe neighborhood. Responsive host. Thank you for everything !

Thank you for reviewing your stay and are happy to hear that you had a great time at the farmhouse during Octoberfest! I'm glad you enjoyed the community, we feel that Yonah Mountain Lake offers the perfect combination of serenity and convenience with so many things to do a just a short drive away.
The house is just as advertised--no unpleasant surprises! Our group of 12 ladies slept comfortably and especially enjoyed the large dining table where we could all eat together. We also could all sit together in the living room. We find this to be unusual in VRBO houses, as many of them have lots of beds/bedrooms but not enough gathering space. Everything is clean and seems brand new.

We love hearing that Yonah Mountain Farmhouse was a great fit for your group! It makes us happy knowing everyone had space to sleep comfortably and gather together, we agree that balance can be hard to find. Thanks for the kind words, and we’d love to welcome you back for another stay!
This is an amazing property with room for multiple families to spread out if needed or as me and my wife had the entire property to ourselves. You will not be disappointed with the home and many things to do within minutes. Only a few miles from Helen, several local wineries or nice hiking trails.
Everything you will need is provided for you within the home.
Definitely a 5 star property.

Wow, thank you so much for the amazing review! We're so happy to hear that you had a fantastic time and that the design and location of the farmhouse worked out well for both you and Alyson. We agree that being so close to Helen, local wineries, and hiking trails makes it super easy enjoy all that the area has to offer.
We really appreciate your kind words and positive feedback. As our first guests at the farmhouse it especially means a lot to us. We're grateful for your personal recommendation and look forward to having you back in the future.
The house is as good as it looks in the photos, maybe better. Plenty of room for 3 or 4 couples and a well stocked kitchen for preparing dinner. Location is ideal, in close proximity to hiking trails and wine vineyards. Close to Helen, Cleveland and a 35 minute drive to Dahlonega. Great place to kick back and relax after a day of activities. Owners were easy to communicate with. Bonus- a well prepared file of house instructions and nearby activities that can be loaded as an app on your cell, very handy.

About the host
Hosted by Yonah Mountain Farmhouse
My husband Don and I began hosting in Vermont more than 12 years ago and later fell in love with the wines, small‑town charm and outdoor adventures of the North Georgia mountains. Unable to find a property that matched our expectations, we designed and built Yonah Mountain Farmhouse ourselves.
With four ensuite bedrooms, a chef’s kitchen, vaulted ceilings and a game‑packed lower level, our custom home is made for friends and multi‑generational families who want to connect and have fun together. You’ll find features like a gas fireplace, covered porch, eight‑person hot tub, fire‑pit patio and access to Mays Lake and a community pavilion.
We’re hands‑on hosts who care about details and quick to answer any questions. Our goal is simple: to make guests feel welcome and comfortable by drawing on our personal love of travel and the communities we are a part of.
Why they chose this property
It's custom‑built for connection: Our cabin wasn’t just decorated—it was designed from the ground up for groups. The great room features vaulted ceilings, exposed beams and a stone fireplace that’s both a focal point and a cozy heat source. A rustic wood dining table seats twelve and flows seamlessly into a chef’s kitchen with a professional‑grade gas range and a fully stocked coffee bar.
There's room for everyone: Four spacious bedrooms each have their own ensuite bathroom, high‑quality mattresses and plenty of natural light, so couples and families enjoy privacy without sacrificing together time.
Both indoor and outdoor fun: The walk‑out lower level is a dedicated game zone with a pool table, ping‑pong, Pac‑Man and a big‑screen TV. Step onto the deck to soak in the private hot tub or gather around the gas fire pit for stargazing. A covered porch off the main floor looks out to the Chattahoochee National Forest and has a fire table for morning coffee or evening wine.
It's in a great location. You’ll be tucked inside a gated community with a pavilion and a dock on Mays Lake for fishing and kayaking. When you’re ready to explore, dozens of wineries, trails and downtown Helen are just a short drive away, so there’s something for everyone.
It offers modern conveniences: Fast fiber‑optic Wi‑Fi, an EV charger, a dedicated workspace with standing desk and printer, and accessible features like oversize doorways ensure a comfortable stay for all.
In short, Yonah Mountain Farmhouse combines thoughtful design, ample space and an unbeatable location—making it ideal for families, friends and multi‑generational gatherings.
What makes this property unique
Designed for togetherness: The main level features a soaring great room with vaulted ceilings, exposed beams and a stone fireplace. It’s flooded with natural light thanks to a wall of windows that look out over the forest. A reclaimed‑wood dining table seats twelve, and the open kitchen encourages everyone to cook and eat together.
Thoughtful work‑from‑anywhere amenities: A private office near the foyer comes with a standing desk and printer, and high‑speed fiber‑optic Wi‑Fi runs throughout. For guests with limited mobility, there’s an accessible bedroom with oversize doorways and a shower grab bar.
Entertainment for all ages: The lower level is a self‑contained recreation zone with board games, a large TV, pool and ping‑pong tables, Pac‑Man, and air hockey. Just outside is a private hot tub and a gas fire pit.
Seamless indoor‑outdoor living: A covered porch off the kitchen overlooks the Chattahoochee National Forest and includes a fire table—ideal for morning coffee or evening wine. Guests also have access to a community pavilion with a fireplace and grills, plus a private lake for fishing and kayaking.
Prime location: You’re minutes from the Unicoi Wine Trail, dozens of hiking trails and downtown Helen, giving you easy access to vineyards, waterfalls and the Bavarian‑style village without sacrificing peace and quiet.
