About the property

Unique Cabin amongst the Redwoods:3 BR.3 BA. Utmost Tranquillity!

This cabin, built in 1906, the second built in the Mount Hermon Christian Conference community, is nestled amongst majestic giant Redwoods hundreds of years old, with lovely Zayante Creek running just below the cabin. Often, kids are down playing in the creek before the car is even unloaded ! Five minute walk to the Mt. Hermon Auditorium.

Enjoy the crisp, clean air and blue sky. Guests often come to this getaway to write, catch up on some reading in front of the wood burning stove, or just experience a time of reflection. Great nature trails through the redwoods located in the Mount Hermon Conference Center grounds…are literally outside your front door. This place is a photographer’s dream location.

Those wanting a little more excitement might want to try the Mount Hermon Canopy Tour, a two hour tour of the Redwoods which includes six Zip Lines and two Sky Bridges ! Call for reservations (1.831.430.4357) or book online:

Apparently, this is one of few such facilities in the United States.

Other visitors are drawn to the many opportunities available nearby: World Class golf courses such as Pasatiempo (10 minutes away) designed by Alister Mackenzie who designed Augusta National, site of the Masters or Pebble Beach and Spyglass less than an hour away in Carmel; the Monterey Bay Aquarium; fabulous beaches in Capitola and Santa Cruz (15 minutes); Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, an oceanfront amusement park; best shopping in the Bay area at Stanford Mall plus Stevens Creek and Santana Row in San Jose (45 minutes);many antique stores in Capitola, Aptos, Felton, and Los Gatos; wonderful restaurants throughout the area. Plus guests can enjoy all of the excitement of San Francisco, just 90 minutes away!

An absolutely 'don't miss' experience is walking the 3 mile oceanside along the Santa Cruz Beach. To better envision this experience, we suggest you google 'Santa Cruz beach walkway '.

You will find this rustic cabin to be in excellent condition and beautifully furnished. The first floor has a small kitchen with a table and chairs overlooking the wooded forest; an inviting living room with two couches and other seating facing the wood burning stove; one bedroom with a brass queen bed (regular) with French Doors opening to the living room and the wood burning stove; another queen bed (comfy 12' mattress) with a TV set with many popular channels. A huge outside deck with a Redwood Table with seating for 8 to 10, depending...and another Redwood table seating 6 in the side deck (Just in case you want to allow the children to sit together, within ear shot, but not seated next to you.) The lower level includes a king bed (12' mattress) and an ante room with several sleeping pads plus an up and down bunk bed for children or smaller size adults. Each bedroom has its own tiny bathroom with shower. These showers are definitely one person showers! The cabin is full of antique furniture and plenty of books.

Decks completely surround the cabin as well as outside the bedroom with the king sized bed on the lower level. All with spectacular views.

Dining on the deck is an option: propane grill accommodates 12 steaks or burgers; Redwood table seats 8-10 comfortably.

We welcome you to a wonderful experience in this very special place on God's earth.

Special Note: This is a residential neighborhood located adjacent to the Mount Hermon Christian Conference Center grounds and 'partying' is unwelcome here.

Also, for those who need to stay 'connected', WI FI is in the Cabin. And, for those interested in late night TV, we have a 32' Flat Screen TV with many stations, as well as a small screen DVD player to be found in the downstairs bedroom closet. We do suggest you bring your iPad if you want to view movies on Netflix.

Sorry, absolutely no pets or smoking indoors or outdoors. Smoking on the nearby driveway is acceptable. Thanks for your consideration.

For those visiting the cabin without a vehicle: within a 10 minute walk you will find a sushi restaurant, Mexican restaurant, pizza, organic market with a nice deli, a supermarket, drug store, and a coffee and donut spot.

Wishing you an enjoyable experience in a very special place.

SPECIAL NOTE: From time to time Mount Hermon has weekend getaway camps for children at Redwood Camp. While it is across the canyon and probably a block away, you can expect to hear singing and announcements over the loudspeaker from time to time.

Why The Owner chose Central Coast

We wanted a complete getaway from the hectic life of Southern California. We could have purchased a vacation home any place in the world. We chose this because we wanted the privacy, beauty, and serenity it offers. And, because we are avid golfers, we appreciate the fabulous golf courses in the area. And, it is always a thrill to do the three mile walk along the Santa Cruz coastline.

What makes this cabin unique

We just like being there. Hanging out on the deck or in front of the wood burning stove with a good book or close friends.

There are many very nice restaurants in the vicinity. Our favorite for couples is Cafe Sparrow in Aptos. Sushi in neighborhood shopping center. Family Mexican restaurant at the corner of Highway 9 and Graham Hill Road. Healthy sandwiches and salads, at the New Leaf Market (Organic) at Highway 9 and Graham Hill Road. Ask owner to provide an additional list of suggested Restaurants.

A cozy cabin in the redwoods.

  • 4 of 5

The cabin is just as comfy as it looks. We live a few miles away and rented the upper and lower rooms for family coming on vacation. Big comfortable beds, kitchen with all the necessities. You can hear the creek and small waterfall from the deck. And see the creek down below. Beautiful. A little tricky parking as the driveway is a short steep incline, if you are not comfortable with that. We had no problem with it, but my father in law probably couldn't park there. Less than a mile from groceries, drug store, etc. Quiet and peaceful area. The nearby contact for the cabin is very kind and helpful. Would definitely rent it again.

Owner's Response: Yes, Joni, the driveway can be a challenge. Most elderly guests park their vehicles in the driveway, and just don't drive down to the parking space. There is a circular path to the left of the top of the driveway which you can walk down to the cabin. It is about 50 feet or so. We are happy your stay was enjoyable. Don

The cabin, setting in the redwoods and location were outstanding!

  • 5 of 5

The cabin is the most well- equipped I have ever seen. It is cozy, warm and with all the amenities. Easily accomodated our 4 adults and 1 teenager with room and beds to spare! Don Schmidt, the owner was great and very helpful. I would highly recommend this site! We were here in the winter and it must be even more awesome in the summer. Our gang loved the Mt Hermon zip line adventure located close by. Definitely gets an A+.

Rates & Availability

Taxes and fees are additional

Additional information about rental rates

The reason we have a no refund policy is because unlike a hotel which has many rooms, we have only one cabin. And, because families generally plan vacations quite a distance in the future, we may be unable to find a replacement for your reservation. However, it you absolutely cannot make it and you do not have a friend or relative who can take your place, you should call me right away and we will release the date and attempt to rent it to someone else. If successful, we will notify VRBO and they will refund the rent plus all fees. The key here is to notify me ASAP if you can't make it. Don
